Upper Johnny Creek Campground Introduce
Seeking "camping near me" for your next outdoor adventure? Consider Upper Johnny Creek Campground, nestled in the scenic surroundings of Leavenworth, Washington (address: Leavenworth, WA 98826, USA). This campground offers a natural escape with the added convenience of being close to the charming Bavarian town of Leavenworth for potential day trips.
Based on recent customer reviews, Upper Johnny Creek Campground presents a mixed experience that caters to those seeking a more secluded and nature-focused camping trip. It's important to note that while some aspects are highly praised, others require careful consideration before planning your visit.
One of the frequently mentioned positives is the campground's environment and location. Reviewers appreciate the opportunity to "get out in nature" and enjoy the tranquility of the area. Its proximity to Leavenworth is also highlighted as a significant advantage, allowing campers to easily access the town's attractions, dining, and shopping options. This balance between a natural retreat and access to amenities makes Upper Johnny Creek Campground a potentially appealing choice for various types of campers.
Another point of interest is the availability of campsites. One reviewer noted that the upper campground was "fairly empty even on a weekend," which could be reassuring for campers without reservations, especially when compared to the lower campground, which was reported as full. This suggests that the upper section might offer a greater chance of securing a walk-in site during peak seasons. Specifically, Site 54, a walk-in tent camping site, was mentioned as providing a "great secluded camping experience." This is a significant plus for those prioritizing privacy and a more immersive nature experience.
For those planning to have campfires, it's worth noting that firewood is available. While one reviewer mentioned "lots of firewood to scavenge," they also indicated that it is sold for $10 a bundle. This provides options for campers, allowing them to either gather wood from the surroundings (where permitted and available) or purchase a bundle for convenience.
However, there are some crucial aspects of Upper Johnny Creek Campground that potential visitors should be aware of. One of the most significant concerns raised is the quality of the pump water. A reviewer explicitly stated that the "pump water is yellow." While they also mentioned drinking it without immediate negative effects, they strongly advised caution, suggesting that bringing your own water or using purification tablets would be a "good idea." This is a critical piece of information for anyone planning to rely on the campground's water source.
Another important consideration is the potential presence of wildlife. One reviewer specifically mentioned the need to "watch out for bears at night." This highlights the campground's location within a natural habitat where encounters with wildlife are possible. Campers should take necessary precautions, such as properly storing food and being aware of their surroundings, to ensure their safety and the safety of the wildlife.
Connectivity is also a factor to consider. According to a review, there is "no network coverage" at the campground itself. To get cell service, it was reported that one needs to travel "almost six miles towards the town." This lack of connectivity might be a welcome aspect for those seeking a complete digital detox. However, it's essential for others to be aware of this limitation, especially in case of emergencies or the need to stay connected.
The review also briefly mentioned a positive interaction with the "camp host." While the specifics of this interaction were not detailed, it suggests that there is on-site staff available to assist campers. However, the reviewer also noted missing the campfire on both days due to "fires warning." This indicates that campfire restrictions may be in place at certain times due to environmental conditions or safety regulations. Campers should inquire about current fire restrictions before their visit.
In summary, Upper Johnny Creek Campground offers a natural setting close to Leavenworth, with opportunities for secluded tent camping and access to firewood. However, potential visitors should be prepared for the possibility of discolored pump water, the presence of bears, and limited or no cell phone service at the campground. It is advisable to bring your own drinking water or a water purification method, take precautions regarding wildlife, and be aware of the need to travel for network coverage.
For those seeking "camping near me" that prioritizes a natural experience and proximity to Leavenworth, Upper Johnny Creek Campground could be a viable option, provided they are prepared for the specific conditions mentioned in the reviews. It's always recommended to check for the latest information on campground conditions, water advisories, fire restrictions, and any other relevant updates before planning your trip. You may be able to find additional information or contact details through online camping directories or local Leavenworth tourism resources.
While no specific promotional information was provided in the reviews, it's worth checking local tourism websites or contacting the relevant authorities managing the campground for any potential deals, seasonal rates, or booking procedures. Understanding the current regulations and being well-prepared will contribute to a safer and more enjoyable camping experience at Upper Johnny Creek Campground.

Upper Johnny Creek Campground Reviews
Great place to get out in nature, while also being close to Leavenworth for a day trip if desired! The campsite was fairly empty even on a weekend, which was reassuring for walk-ins (the lower campground was full, however). The pump water is yellow. However, we drank it, and I am still alive to write this review. Use that information at your discretion. Probably bringing your own water or purification tablets would be a good idea.We used site 54 (walk in tent camping) and had a great secluded camping experience. Lots of firewood to scavenge, though I think they also sell it for $10 a bundle.

Aug 31, 2020 · akash rajI've always loved going up the icicle with my family and that's one of the camp grounds that we went
Jul 19, 2021 · Jeramie FarrensReally awesome we’ll maintained camp ground outside Leavenworth. It usually has open spots because it doesn’t have easy access to the nearby Icicle Creek like many other campsites nearby. If there is no burn ban I can use the fire ring, one at every site along with a table and a good area for a tent. Our neighbors were playing loud music and there was tons of kids so I bet you could find something more serene but things were pretty good. There are sites designed for larger group and walk in sites fir tent only as well. There are clean compost toilets and potable cold water. $18/night, cash only, extra for more than one car. Very nice camp hosts.
Jul 20, 2021 · Heather A AdamsPerfectly good campground nearby the Snow Lakes Trailhead for the enchantments and about 15-20 minutes from Leavenworth. By the time we got here the other nearby campgrounds were full so we ended on this one. It was not terribly scenic compared to other campgrounds in the area and the campsites were pretty small and somewhat close together, but it got the job done and was very clean and well kept. The trees were dense enough that you didn’t feel too exposed despite being pretty packed. It’s a convenient location and while I wouldn’t put it at the top of my list, if you need a place to camp out for the night this is a perfectly good campground.
