Virgil Point Campground Introduce
Attention local users seeking "camping near me"! Consider Virgil Point Campground, located at Hugo Lake Virgil Point Rd, Hugo, OK 74743, USA. This campground offers a variety of features and is situated in a scenic location. You can reach them at (580) 326-0173 or +1 580-326-0173 for inquiries. Based on recent customer feedback, Virgil Point Campground presents a mixed but generally positive experience for those looking to camp in the Hugo Lake area.
One reviewer, who indicated it was their first and likely last visit, mentioned a controlled burn that resulted in smoke on a sunny day. They felt this detracted from their experience, suggesting that potential visitors in the following weeks might want to reconsider due to possible lingering effects or similar activities. However, they did concede that "take away the smoke and the facility is great," indicating underlying positive aspects of the campground itself.
In contrast, another reviewer provided a more detailed and largely positive account. They noted that "Virgil Point Campground is nicely laid out," suggesting a thoughtful arrangement of campsites and facilities. The campsites themselves are described as "large with table, barbecue, and fire ring," which are desirable amenities for any camping trip. Furthermore, this reviewer pointed out that "most have lake views," enhancing the scenic appeal of the campground for those wanting to be close to the water.
For those seeking shade, the reviewer mentioned that "Loop B sites have plenty of shade," which can be particularly important during the hot Oklahoma summers. Conversely, "C Loop sites are open sites," catering to those who prefer more sunlight or have solar power needs. This variety in campsite characteristics allows local users to choose a spot that best suits their preferences.
Accessibility to Hugo Lake is facilitated by a boat ramp area with "plenty of parking spaces," making Virgil Point Campground a convenient option for those planning to enjoy boating or fishing on the lake. The cleanliness of the facilities is also highlighted, with the reviewer stating that "The restroom/shower facility is very clean," which is a significant factor for a comfortable camping experience.
Essential utilities are available at the campsites, including "Electric and water." For those with RVs or needing these amenities for their camping setup, Virgil Point Campground provides these conveniences. Additionally, a "Dump station is located on the way out of the Campground," making it easy for RV users to manage waste.
The positive reviewer did note one area of concern: "The only concern is the vault toilet in the B section needs to be emptied. (Splash back. Not sanitary)." This suggests that while the main restroom/shower facilities are clean, there might be maintenance needed for the vault toilets in certain areas of the campground. Despite this issue, the reviewer concluded by stating, "I will be visiting Virgil Point Campground again," indicating that the positive aspects outweighed this particular concern.
Considering these reviews, Virgil Point Campground offers local users a "camping near me" option with a potentially beautiful environment around Hugo Lake. The services include well-laid-out campsites with tables, barbecues, and fire rings, as well as electric and water hookups. Features include lake views from many sites, shaded options in Loop B, open sites in Loop C, a convenient boat ramp with ample parking, clean restroom/shower facilities, and a dump station. However, potential visitors should be aware of the past controlled burn and the reported issue with the vault toilet in the B section.
For local users looking to enjoy Hugo Lake and the surrounding nature, Virgil Point Campground provides a base with essential amenities. The large sites and lake views are definite perks. Depending on your preference for shade or sun, you can choose between Loop B and Loop C. The availability of a boat ramp makes it ideal for those wanting to get out on the water. While one review mentioned a disruptive controlled burn, the other focused on the positive aspects of the layout and facilities, suggesting that such incidents might not be typical.

Virgil Point Campground Reviews
First time here, and likely the last. Today they set fire to the camp ground to do a controlled burn. Thanks for the smoke on the first sunny day. Takes a lot of thought to come up with solutions like this.. Oklahoma isn’t o.k. If you are coming to this park in the next few weeks you might think again. Take away the smoke and the facility is great.

May 18, 2022 · Bill DodgeWe liked the site we chose. Great lake view and shade trees. But, only 30 amp service. Grass was very tall when we arrived, and of course the mowers and weed eaters show up the next morning. We were breaking down and the mowers were zooming around us making it really dusty. I had to wave them down to ask if they would mow away from us for 30 minutes so I can get things put away without making a mistake. BTW...there were only 2 other RV's in the entire park and tons of vacant common space and they decided to mow my site and the other site with a nice new class A motorhome. Oh! We gave 3 of the workers cold bottle water when they were using the weed eaters. It was extremely hot.

Dec 26, 2021 · Bryan B.Had a great time here last weekend. It was quiet and uncrowded where we were. The lake was pretty low but that didn't stop us from taking my great niece clam hunting.
