Located conveniently at U.S. 70, Hugo Lake Campground offers a gateway to nature and outdoor adventure. As a featured option in the 'camping near me' category, we understand the importance of providing detailed information to help you make the best choice for your next getaway.
Hugo Lake itself is a significant draw for visitors to the campground. This large reservoir offers ample opportunities for water-based activities such as boating, fishing, and swimming. Imagine spending your days casting a line for crappie, bass, and catfish, or simply enjoying the tranquility of the water from your campsite. The surrounding landscape is characterized by rolling hills and wooded areas, providing a scenic backdrop for your camping adventure. Wildlife enthusiasts will appreciate the chance to observe local fauna in their natural habitat.
While the natural environment of Hugo Lake Campground holds considerable appeal, it's important to provide a balanced perspective based on recent feedback. Some visitors have lauded the beauty of the campsites and the overall peacefulness of the area. These positive experiences highlight the potential for a relaxing and enjoyable time amidst nature. However, it is also crucial to acknowledge areas where some campers have expressed concerns.
Based on recent reviews, one recurring issue involves the campground host. A specific comment mentioned a perceived lack of attentiveness regarding gate operations and an unprofessional demeanor. This feedback suggests that the management and staff interactions might vary, and it's something potential visitors should be aware of. While some guests found the location quiet and peaceful, this particular review indicates that the experience can be influenced by interactions with campground personnel.
Another significant concern raised by a recent visitor pertains to the condition and location of the restroom facilities. The review explicitly stated that the restrooms were located far from the campsites, which could be inconvenient, especially during the night or for families with young children. Furthermore, the reviewer reported that the toilets were not flushing and were emitting unpleasant odors. This is a serious issue that could significantly impact the comfort and hygiene of campers. The fact that the reviewer chose to leave immediately and vowed never to return underscores the severity of this negative experience.
Considering these points, it is essential for potential local users searching within the 'camping near me' category to weigh the positive aspects of the natural surroundings against the reported shortcomings in service and facilities. While the allure of Hugo Lake and the potential for a quiet retreat are undeniable, the feedback regarding the campground host and the restroom conditions warrants careful consideration.

Hugo Lake Campground Reviews
Love the camp sites , the area is great. But why the 1 star rating ? The camp host has a lot to be desired. He kept saying they don't pay overtimeWell, dude, you are the one who signed up for the job. You are the one that bid for the job and got it. You kept saying you had to be up and open the gates by 6 am . We were by there several times, and NO ONE was at the gate. You didn't have to be rude. Other than that one rude gate attendant, it was a quiet, peaceful place.
Jun 09, 2024 · Nancy JThis campground was VERY DISAPPOINTING! The restrooms were far from the campsites. The toilets DIDN'T FLUSH! VERY SMELLY TOO! We reserved J 9 through recreation.gov. We will not be staying here tonight or EVER!
Mar 05, 2025 · Pat RoszmanOnly complain here was that there were those bugs that are attracted to your light so I had to keep the camper light on the outside off and not turn the lights on until you close the door. I believe it was 18 bucks. Electrical had a spicket fire pit barbecue grill Lakeview and free firewood
Sep 27, 2022 · Rachelle GarciaVery nice RV park. Not crowded and very quiet. The sites are well spaced.
Apr 22, 2024 · Timothy SmithThis is a quiet little Corp Park in Hugo Oklahoma. We stayed in the Juniper area. All campsites on Juniper backup to the water. They have concrete pads. Our site was very level - (site J6). Some of the sites have a covered picnic table. We have a 40 Motorhome, this site was capable of accommodating our coach and our small Kia. Our site had good Verizon signal also.
