Walk in Water Campground Introduce
Are you a local resident of the Lake Wales, Florida area seeking a tranquil "camping near me" experience? Walk in Water Campground, located at 6110 Walk in Water Rd, Lake Wales, FL 33898, USA, offers a small and peaceful setting for those looking to connect with nature. While it may have limited amenities compared to larger campgrounds, its quiet atmosphere and natural surroundings, as highlighted in local reviews, make it a unique option within the "camping near me" category.
The environment of Walk in Water Campground, based on customer feedback, is characterized by its small size and proximity to nature. One reviewer noted that a complete walk around the campground takes less than two minutes, emphasizing its intimate scale. The campground is situated close to a road, although traffic appears to be minimal, especially in the evenings, suggesting a relatively quiet setting despite the nearby thoroughfare. The surrounding area seems conducive to outdoor activities like hiking and e-biking, as mentioned by a visitor who found it enjoyable for these pursuits. However, it's worth noting that the terrain may include deep sand, which might make it challenging for regular bicycles. The potential for bugginess during the summer months is also mentioned, a common consideration for camping in Florida.
The services at Walk in Water Campground appear to be quite basic, focusing on a more primitive camping experience. Based on the provided reviews, key limitations include the absence of showers and a lack of readily available water sources within the campground itself. This suggests that campers need to be self-sufficient in terms of hygiene and water supply. However, the positive feedback regarding the ranger indicates that while amenities might be limited, the management is helpful and friendly. The campground does offer campsites, with reviewers mentioning both small standard sites and a couple of larger ones. A crucial point for tent campers is that parking within the tent sites may not be permitted, with a recommendation to opt for an RV site if convenient for parking closer to your tent.
The features of Walk in Water Campground, while not extensive in terms of built amenities, lie primarily in its natural setting and the peace it offers. According to the reviews, the campground is described as peaceful and quiet, making it an ideal destination for those seeking a relaxing getaway from the hustle and bustle. Its small size could contribute to a more secluded and intimate camping experience, especially during less crowded times, as one reviewer experienced having the place largely to themselves during the week in January. The proximity to areas suitable for hiking and e-biking suggests that the surrounding landscape offers opportunities for outdoor exploration and physical activity. While not directly on-site, the mention of a gun range a couple of miles away is an environmental factor that some campers might want to be aware of.

- Proximity to Nature: The campground's location likely offers access to the natural beauty of the Lake Wales area, making it a draw for those wanting to be close to hiking and e-biking trails. This natural access can be seen as a significant advantage.
- Personalized Experience: The small size and positive comments about the ranger suggest a more personal and potentially accommodating experience.
- Off-Season Tranquility: As noted by one reviewer's experience in January, visiting during the off-season might provide an even more secluded and peaceful stay.

Walk in Water Campground Reviews
I spent a week here in January 2022. I had the place to myself during the week & 4 campers on the weekend. The place is tiny. You can walk a lap of the campground in under 2 minutes. It's close to the road but minimal traffic in the evenings. Most sites are small but two larger ones available. The tent sites don't allow you to park in them so grab an RV site if possible. There's also a gun range a couple miles away. It would be buggy in the summer months. Nice place for hiking or e-bikes. Too much deep sand for a regular bike. Enjoy!
May 07, 2022 · gary a. usherVery nice place for a couple days. There are no showers or water, but it's peaceful, quite, beautiful, and the ranger is super nice. Perfect for a couple to get away for the weekend.
Dec 05, 2021 · Anna KellyWell marked entrance, entrance road cut back to 13' height. Very clean, 10 spaces set out with nice space between. However the loop road around the campsites is NOT cut back for large RVs. Do not arrive after dark in a 5th wheel or large Class A! You will want a walker/observer to keep from dragging limbs on the roof. Site 4 & 7 are best for bigger rigs. Porta Potties and Dumpster well maintained. Bring in firewood if you want a campfire. Rangers cruise through on an irregular schedule. Kiosk has a lot of good information. The Lake Wales Ridge is a very interesting piece of geology/ecology.
Feb 02, 2020 · Lowell StephensI enjoyed my two-night stay at the Walk in the Water campgrounds. The site is relatively primitive with the only things available being picnic benches, a shelter, fire pits, two porter potties and a dumpster. The site was clean, quiet and peaceful. The porta potties were clean and had toilet paper. Can't beat it for $13.35 per night.
Sep 18, 2021 · Greg RosenbergWe always have a great time here. It is small which makes it great for us to just let the kids explore without having too many people around.
