Went down there this past weekend. Homeless everywhere. We ran to the store and came back and half of our stuff was stolen. Like a radio and phone chargers. The guy running it smelled like alcohol but acted like he was high. This place has really went down hill since the last manager left. I would not let my children or any children I care about be down there. The whole place had a bad vibe. We were frequently going and will NEVER return. This place is awful. There are adults living in tents with small children. They have cut down all of the mature trees-I’m assuming for profit and they have cut trees down and left what they couldn’t sell just on the beach. There was broken glass everywhere. It went from being a safe clean environment to absolutely disgusting. There are broke down cars scattered with the entire exhaust in the yard. And trash EVERYWHERE, clearly someone is using a picnic table as a refrigerator…. - Kelsie cologna

Ward’s Creekside Campground Introduce

For local Joplin, Missouri residents seeking "camping near me," Ward’s Creekside Campground, located at 6614 Old Hwy 71, Joplin, MO 64804, presents a camping option with a creekside setting. However, recent customer reviews paint a somewhat contrasting picture, indicating a need for local users to be aware of both potential positives and significant negatives before considering a stay here.

The environment of Ward’s Creekside Campground is clearly centered around its location along Shoal Creek. This suggests potential for water-based activities such as fishing, canoeing, and kayaking. One positive review explicitly mentions an "amazing spot on Shoal Creek" and the availability of "shuttles and kayaks and canoes available to rent" at a "very reasonable price." This indicates that the natural setting offers opportunities for enjoying the creek and its recreational potential. However, a starkly contrasting review describes a significant deterioration of the environment, alleging that "they have cut down all of the mature trees," impacting the natural shade and beauty. This reviewer also notes that felled trees were left on the beach, and that there was "broken glass everywhere," indicating a potential safety hazard and a lack of upkeep in the natural areas. The presence of "broke down cars scattered with the entire exhaust in the yard" and "trash EVERYWHERE" further paints a picture of an environment that may not be well-maintained or aesthetically pleasing at present.

The services at Ward’s Creekside Campground appear to be a point of contention based on the reviews. One positive review mentions "good maintenance, good help, and good checking around on every one keeping it safe as well," suggesting that efforts are made to ensure the smooth operation and safety of the campground. This reviewer also highlights that a problem with another camper was "handled immediately," indicating a responsive management in certain situations. The availability of "shuttles and kayaks and canoes available to rent" and "very reasonable price for wood" are also mentioned as positive services. However, the negative review paints a drastically different picture, alleging that "the guy running it smelled like alcohol but acted like he was high," raising serious concerns about the management and potentially the safety and environment of the campground. This reviewer also mentions the presence of "adults living in tents with small children," which, while not inherently a service issue, might contribute to the overall atmosphere and the types of interactions campers might experience.

The features of Ward’s Creekside Campground, based on the reviews, are somewhat mixed. The primary natural feature is its location on Shoal Creek, offering potential for creek access and related activities. The availability of rentals for kayaks and canoes is a significant feature for those looking to enjoy the water. The positive review mentions a "fun playful for grown-ups that you can bring your kids with to," suggesting a casual and relaxed atmosphere that might appeal to certain types of campers. The allowance of alcohol and marijuana (within legal limits) is also mentioned as a feature contributing to this "chill" environment. However, the negative review highlights concerning features such as the alleged presence of homeless individuals, theft, broken glass, trash, and abandoned vehicles, which would severely detract from the overall experience and safety of the campground. The cutting down of mature trees is also a significant negative feature, impacting the shade and natural beauty of the site. The contrast between the two reviews suggests that the features and overall atmosphere of Ward’s Creekside Campground may have changed significantly over time, or that different campers have had vastly different experiences.

For local users searching for "camping near me" in Joplin, Ward’s Creekside Campground presents a location with potential access to Shoal Creek and rental options for watercraft. However, the strongly negative recent review raises serious concerns about safety, cleanliness, and the overall environment of the campground. The allegations of theft, the presence of homeless individuals, broken glass, excessive trash, and issues with the management's behavior should give potential visitors pause. While one reviewer describes a "nice chill place" with good maintenance and a responsive manager, this seems to be contradicted by the more recent and alarming account of a severely degraded environment and safety concerns. Local users should weigh these contrasting perspectives carefully.

Promotional information is not provided in the given reviews. To inquire about any current promotions, rates, or policies, local users would need to find contact information for Ward’s Creekside Campground through online search engines or local directories and contact them directly. Given the serious allegations in one of the reviews, it would be prudent to ask specific questions about the current management, security measures, and the overall condition of the campground before making a reservation. It might also be helpful to seek more recent reviews from other sources to get a broader understanding of the current state of the campground.

To make an informed decision about camping at Ward’s Creekside Campground, local users should consider the significant discrepancies in the provided reviews. The positive review suggests a casual, fun environment with creek access and rentals, while the negative review paints a picture of an unsafe, unclean, and poorly managed campground. It would be wise to look for additional, more recent reviews from multiple sources to determine the current conditions and reputation of Ward’s Creekside Campground. If you do decide to contact the campground, be sure to ask detailed questions about security, cleanliness, management presence, and any measures taken to address the issues raised in the negative review. Visiting the campground in person before booking a stay, if feasible, could also provide valuable insight into its current state.

In conclusion, Ward’s Creekside Campground in Joplin, MO, offers a creekside location and potential for water activities. However, recent customer reviews present a starkly divided view of the campground. While one review suggests a casual and well-maintained environment with good management, another describes significant issues with safety, cleanliness, and management behavior. Local users searching for "camping near me" should be aware of these contrasting perspectives and are strongly advised to seek additional information and potentially visit the campground themselves before making a decision to stay at Ward’s Creekside Campground.
