Baxter Springs Campground Introduce
For local residents seeking an affordable and straightforward "camping near me" experience in Southeast Kansas, Baxter Springs Campground, located at 893 E 12th St, Baxter Springs, KS 66713, USA, offers a budget-friendly option right on the river. This minimal yet functional campground caters primarily to those looking for basic amenities and a peaceful overnight stay or a longer, cost-effective camping option.
The environment at Baxter Springs Campground is characterized by its riverside location, offering a potentially scenic and breezy setting. One reviewer noted, "Ah it's nice and breezy on the river at Baxter Springs Campground tonight. I got here about an hour ago and it is lovely." This suggests a tranquil atmosphere with the natural ambiance of the river. The surrounding area of southeast Kansas is described as "picturesque," with one visitor appreciating the "beautiful fall colors" alongside the remaining "green in the fields to wait to harvest," indicating a pleasant natural landscape that changes with the seasons. The campground itself features "level asphalt and gravel" sites, which are generally convenient for setting up RVs or tents.
The services at Baxter Springs Campground are described as "minimal," focusing on the essential needs of campers. According to the reviews, the campground offers:
- Full hookups (water, electric, and sewer) for $20 per night.
- Water and electric (WE) hookups for $15 per night.
- A dumpster for waste disposal.
- A dump station for RV black and gray water.
The features of Baxter Springs Campground are primarily its affordability and its location directly "right on the river." The price points of $15 for water and electric and $20 for full hookups are highlighted as being very competitive ("You can’t beat the $15 water and electric or $20 EWnS hookups"). The level asphalt and gravel sites are a practical feature, making setup easier for various types of camping units. The campground seems to cater well to "most 30’ or less trailers, tents and maybe most shorter classes" of RVs, suggesting it's suitable for a range of camping setups, though larger rigs might need to assess site availability. The quiet atmosphere, as noted by a camper who experienced a "nice quiet overnight stay," can be a significant draw for those seeking a peaceful retreat.
Regarding promotional information, the provided text does not explicitly mention any ongoing discounts or special offers. The campground's primary appeal seems to be its already low pricing for hookup sites. The tiered pricing structure ($15 for WE, $20 for full hookups) can be seen as a form of flexible pricing, allowing campers to choose the level of amenities they need at a corresponding cost. For local users, the consistent affordability mentioned in the reviews might be the most significant promotional aspect, offering a budget-friendly option for spontaneous weekend getaways or overnight stops.
In conclusion, Baxter Springs Campground offers a no-frills, budget-conscious "camping near me" option for those in Southeast Kansas. Its key features are its direct riverfront location, level sites, and very affordable pricing for both water/electric and full hookups. However, potential campers must be aware of the limited services, particularly the absence of permanent restrooms and the reliance on a port-a-potty. The unique payment system involving a local police officer adds a touch of local character to the experience. If you are looking for a quiet, inexpensive place to park your RV or pitch your tent with essential hookups and don't require traditional campground amenities like restrooms, Baxter Springs Campground could be a suitable option. The picturesque surroundings of southeast Kansas and the relaxing riverside environment further enhance its appeal for those who prioritize nature and affordability over extensive facilities. Local users seeking a simple and cost-effective camping solution near Baxter Springs should consider this campground, keeping in mind its minimal service offerings.

Nov 15, 2024 · Phil SattlerWe enjoyed this park. The city is making improvements and has added sewer to some sites. We helped them clean the park. Lots of trash. People just don't care. We suggested more trash barrels and a PVC tube for throwing away fishing line and hooks. We picked up a lot of fishing line by the spillway. They had no trash barrels by the spillway. They added firepits but installed some too close to trees. They don't take reservations. First come/first serve. However, I would advise calling the city to check for any group reservations. An Airstream camping group came in while we were there. We went to the city to pay for our site, and they told us they had a group reservation for the Airstream group. We talked to Public Works and the Mayor, as we didn't have another site lined up, and they were going to make us move. They did let us stay when they determined the Airstream group didn't need all sites. They are working on getting an online reservation system. The park has a popular disc golf course. Nice campground, and we will go back.
Oct 28, 2024 · Wayne HollisFun day in the sun awesome park quint intimate We had the campground to ourselves and saw more city employees than day guests. Police department is supposed to patrol and collect 10 Dollars hook up fee for water and electricity. Water is on all sites as of February 28 2023 I saw reviews saying water was off. 5 dollars for non hook-up and I have a pickup tent which is allowed according to city employees even though a sign say campsites are for electric hookup only RVs 71 degrees and low of 46 overnight with 5 mph light breeze couldn't ask for more for southern Kansas in February !!!!!o
Feb 28, 2023 · Rob PeeleOlder and a little rundown but we had a really nice experience staying for the night. Water is turned off but electric was available. When you get in just follow the directions on the sign - it could not have been easier!
