Based on recent customer reviews, this campground offers a quiet atmosphere and a welcoming staff, with a notable presence of seasonal RV residents, alongside areas for transient visitors.
The Environment: Quiet with a Strong Sense of Community
The prevailing sentiment regarding the environment at West Houghton Lake Campground is its "nice quiet" atmosphere. This is a significant draw for those seeking a peaceful retreat. One reviewer who visited at the end of October, when the campground was mostly closed, still had a positive experience, highlighting the owner's accommodating nature. The description of the central portion having "two rows for transients" with "grass pads" gives an idea of the setup for short-term stays. In contrast, the other three rows were "full of seasonal RVs," many of which featured personal touches like decks, cabanas, and PVC pipes to the dumps, suggesting a well-established and appreciated long-term RV community. This blend of transient and seasonal residents can sometimes contribute to a friendly and communal atmosphere within a campground.
One practical environmental note for those arriving at night is to be cautious about missing the entrance, as it wasn't immediately obvious to one visitor. They suggested that reflective tape on the park sign or using an expanded Google map could be helpful. This indicates that while the campground itself is pleasant, its nighttime visibility might be limited.
Overall, the environment seems to be characterized by its tranquility and a strong presence of a seasonal RV community, with transient areas offering basic grass pads.
Services and Amenities: Nice Staff and Essential Hookups
Based on the customer reviews, the services and amenities at West Houghton Lake Campground include:
- Nice Staff: Multiple reviewers specifically mentioned the staff being "very nice" and the owner being accommodating, even when the campground was nearing its seasonal closure.
- Water and 50 Amp Service: Available at least in some capacity, as noted by the off-season visitor who had access to 50 amp service, although water was off (which they were prepared for). This suggests that standard RV hookups are likely available during the regular season.
- Grass Pads for Transients: The transient sites are described as having grass pads.
The presence of numerous seasonal RVs with personalized setups like decks and cabanas implies that long-term residents likely have access to full hookups (water, electric, sewer), further suggesting that these amenities are generally available at the campground.
The review doesn't detail specific amenities like restrooms, showers, laundry facilities, or recreational areas. However, the focus on RV camping and the established seasonal community suggests that essential services for RVers are likely provided.

West Houghton Lake Campground Reviews
We loved it because they were mostly closed and the owner let us in anyway (end of October) Water was off (but we had enough) and 50 amp was available. The center portion has two rows for transients (I guess, we were the only ones), grass pads. The other three rows were full of seasonal RVs, all having decks, cabanas, and PVC pipes to the dumps. Judging from the materials and RVs here I would say this is a well loved and appreciated RV destination. If you arrive at night be careful or you'll miss the entrance. We did it twice. A little reflective tape on the park sign would help or an expanded Google map on your cell phone 😉

Oct 21, 2024 · RUBY SlippersWe love coming here. It's family oriented. We normally come every summer, but did not make it this year. But we will definitely be coming again next year. We stay in the cabins. They are cute and comfortable. Any questions we had were answered. Fire wood was available and it's a cute trail to walk behind it.
Oct 15, 2022 · Kay ElizabethThe park has the basics for a decent price. No fancy amenities but thats ok. Everyone is very nice there. The bathrooms are old but very clean. Quite a few long term campers but also quite a few spots for daily summer campers. Right across the street from a boat launch which is helpful if you're planning to do any boating.
