Northern Nights Campground Introduce
Hello to our local Michigan campers and those searching for "camping near me" in the Roscommon area! Let's take an objective look at Northern Nights Campground, located at 10058 N Cut Rd, Roscommon, MI 48653, USA. You can reach them at (989) 821-6891 or +1 989-821-6891. Based on recent customer reviews, while the campground itself is noted for its potential beauty and peacefulness, significant concerns have been raised regarding the management and customer service, which prospective visitors should be aware of.
The Environment: Potentially Lovely and Peaceful
Several reviewers mention that the campground "looked lovely." One described it as "peaceful and relaxing." This suggests that the physical environment of Northern Nights Campground has the potential to be quite appealing, possibly featuring natural beauty typical of the Roscommon area in Michigan. The mention of a small pine tree at one site hints at a setting with some natural foliage. For those seeking a tranquil escape, the description of being "peaceful and relaxing" is certainly attractive.
However, it's crucial to consider these positive descriptions alongside the negative experiences related to management, as the overall enjoyment of the environment can be significantly impacted by the operational aspects of a campground.
Services and Amenities: Mixed Feedback with Emphasis on Self Check-In
The reviews offer a mixed perspective on the services and amenities:
- Self Check-In: One reviewer specifically praised the "easy peasy" self check-in process, which can be a convenient feature for late arrivals or those who prefer minimal contact upon arrival.
- Site Quality: One site was described as "perfect" for the reviewer's needs, although a minor inconvenience with a pine tree affecting water hookup was noted. This suggests that the quality of individual sites might vary.
On the negative side, there are serious allegations regarding the owner's management practices:
- Double Booking: One reviewer recounted arriving to find their reserved space occupied by a "repeat customer," indicating a significant lapse in reservation management.
- Poor Customer Service: The same reviewer detailed a negative interaction with the owner, Ben, including a lack of adequate compensation for the double booking and a perceived prioritization of customers deemed more profitable.
- Accusatory Behavior: Another reviewer, who had a negative experience, mentioned the owner being "accusatory" and making false claims, even from out of state. This raises concerns about how customer feedback is handled.
The mention of the owner responding to negative feedback by claiming "new management" but then the same reviewer stating their negative experience was precisely under this "new management" further complicates the perception of service quality.
Features: Self Check-In and Potentially Nice Sites, Overshadowed by Management Concerns
The notable features, based on the reviews, appear to be:
- Easy Self Check-In: For those who value efficiency upon arrival.
- Potentially Lovely and Peaceful Setting: The underlying environment is described positively.
However, these are overshadowed by significant concerns regarding:
- Unreliable Reservations: The double-booking incident raises questions about the reliability of reservations.
- Questionable Customer Service: Described as "lacking" and "even worse" by one reviewer, with accusations of prioritizing certain customers and making false accusations.
Why Local Users Should Be Cautious About Northern Nights Campground for "Camping Near Me"
For local users seeking "camping near me" in Roscommon, MI, Northern Nights Campground presents a dilemma. While the campground itself is described as potentially lovely and peaceful, the serious allegations of mismanagement, including double booking and poor customer service, should give potential visitors pause. The experience of arriving to find your reserved spot occupied, coupled with the owner's handling of the situation as described in the reviews, suggests a risk that your camping plans might be disrupted.
The positive aspects like self check-in and the potential beauty of the location are appealing, but they are weighed down by the reported negative management practices. If you value the security of your reservation and responsive customer service, you might want to consider these reviews carefully before booking a stay at Northern Nights Campground.

Northern Nights Campground Reviews
Edit: This review is updated due to the owner being accusatory of myself being intoxicated. I would like to point out that the owner does not even stay near the campground, but we had this discussion over the phone while he was in New Jersey. Therefore he was unable to even see/speak with me in person. Yes, I am guilty of saying one cuss word to the owner (not his staff) I actually feel terrible for Maggie- the lovely lady who had to clean up Ben’s mess. Please be wary of any owner that throws out false accusations to try and cover their butts (I’ll keep it PG). Not a good look. The owner does not need to agree with this review, but I have stated only facts with the exception of my opinion that I stated at the end of my review.Really, though, the campground itself looked lovely. Just want you to know what you’re getting yourselves into if you book. No one wants to turn up to someone else in their reserved space.—————————————————————I've been reading some reviews and noticed that the owner has responded to negative feedback by claiming the campground is now under new management. However, let me tell you—this new management is precisely why I will not be returning to Northern Nights.Although the campground itself looked lovely, I never got the chance to experience it. During a long road trip with my family, we had booked a night at Northern Nights, only to arrive and discover that our space had been double-booked. Ben, the owner, chose to accommodate a "repeat customer" who was staying for more nights, leaving us without our reserved spot.Ben's managerial skills are lacking, and his customer service is even worse. While he did book us a room at a low-rate motel—a far cry from the beautiful summer night we had hoped for at the campground—this inconvenience meant that our family was split up into separate rooms instead of enjoying time together. To add insult to injury, he refused to offer a refund for our reservation, despite another family occupying the spot and paying for it. When we suggested that this was insufficient compensation and requested a refund, he laughed and said, "You're not going to be making a profit off of this."I have to agree with a previous reviewer: Ben seems more interested in prioritizing those who will generate more income for him than in providing good service to all customers.
Aug 23, 2024 · Crystal SchaibleSelf check in was easy peasy I loved it. The site was perfect for what I needed. Just a small pine tree was sort of in the way couldn’t back up far enough to make connection to water easy. Had to stretch hose. The campground was peaceful and relaxing. I would definitely love to come back.
Oct 07, 2024 · Susan PicaBeautiful campground with full hookups available. Nice sites with lots of trees for hammocks and shade. Perfect area close to Higgins Lake and South Branch of the AuSable River. We stayed 3 weeks and got a weekly rate. We really enjoyed ourselves with our kayaks on the lakes and rivers nearby.
Aug 24, 2024 · Theresa SmithWe enjoyed this so much that I would like to keep it a secret so there is always space available! I booked earlier in the week for a long weekend of tent camping. Wood was dropped off at the site. Our site was great; backed up to the woods/trails. Bathrooms are decent, definitely clean. It was quiet at night. There is a little playground for the kids with sports equipment. The only thing I would change is the streetlamp across from our site. It was a little too much at night. I will definitely bring the kids and dog back!
Aug 14, 2024 · Danielle BassiA lovely little get away! We will be back again! :) Our family enjoyed the walking trails and the rustic site. Such a peaceful and quiet campground, and there was a little playground for the kids. Cleanest restrooms in any campground we've ever visited. ⭐ ✨ ⭐
