This is a review of spot 140. I think there were other places I would have given a 5.These basic sites were fairly spread out and interspersed with trees. Most had a good view do the lake!!Our campsite did not have adequate flat space to pitch tents. We went several yards into the woods for a mostly not-rocky, mostly level place. We were still sleeping on a significant incline, which matters if you are on a cot and sleeping bag! There were for sure wild turkeys at our campground. I think they were roosting in trees above us! That’s really cool. The pavement was smooth and safe. The picnic table was pretty mildewy- needed a table cloth. There were big ants everywhere. This made it difficult to enjoy eating, sitting around campfire, etc since they crawled up your leg and up chairs. The night sky was BREATHTAKING- felt like we were in a truly minimal light pollution area. We laid flat on a picnic blanket and enjoyed the Milky Way…Until ants crawled all over us! 🤪The shower houses were basic and clean.I was surprised to see laundry facilities! - Bethany Haid

Wild Turkey Ridge Campground Introduce

Looking for "camping near me" in the Warsaw, Missouri area? Wild Turkey Ridge Campground, located on an unnamed road in Warsaw, MO 65355, USA, offers a camping experience with notable natural beauty and some considerations to keep in mind, based on recent customer reviews. Situated in the Truman Lake region, this campground seems to appeal to those who appreciate scenic views and a more natural setting.

The environment of Wild Turkey Ridge Campground is frequently mentioned in the reviews. Many campsites boast a "good view do the lake," suggesting that the campground is situated in a location with appealing vistas of Truman Lake. The campsites are described as "fairly spread out and interspersed with trees," which implies a degree of privacy and a natural, shaded setting. This type of layout often enhances the feeling of being immersed in nature. Furthermore, as the name suggests, encounters with "wild turkeys" are a notable feature, with one reviewer even mentioning them roosting in the trees above their campsite, which was considered "really cool." This adds a unique element of wildlife observation to the camping experience.

One of the standout features, appealing to many seeking a true escape, is the "breathtaking night sky." The campground is located in an area with minimal light pollution, allowing for stunning views of the stars, including the Milky Way. This makes it an ideal spot for stargazing enthusiasts looking for "camping near me" where they can appreciate the celestial wonders.

In terms of services and facilities, Wild Turkey Ridge Campground offers basic amenities. The "shower houses were basic and clean," which is a positive aspect for those who value hygiene during their camping trip. Surprisingly, one reviewer noted the presence of "laundry facilities," which is a significant convenience, especially for longer stays or for those who appreciate the ability to refresh their clothing while camping.

However, the reviews also point out some potential drawbacks. One camper experienced an issue with their specific site (spot 140), suggesting that not all sites might be equally desirable. Another reviewer noted that "Our campsite did not have adequate flat space to pitch tents," requiring them to venture into the woods to find a more suitable, albeit still inclined, area. This is an important consideration for tent campers, highlighting the potential for uneven terrain on some sites.

Another recurring issue mentioned is the presence of "big ants everywhere." This made it difficult for some campers to enjoy outdoor activities like eating and sitting around the campfire, as the ants would crawl on them and their belongings. This is something to be aware of, particularly during warmer months.

The picnic tables are described as "pretty mildewy," suggesting that they might not be consistently well-maintained. Bringing a table cloth was recommended by one reviewer to address this.

On the positive side, the "pavement was smooth and safe," which is beneficial for walking around the campground.

A significant concern raised by one reviewer was the lack of a way to contact a ranger, particularly when dealing with disruptive neighbors late at night. This is an important consideration regarding campground management and the ability to address issues that might arise during your stay.

To summarize the environment, services, and features of Wild Turkey Ridge Campground:

  • Scenic Lake Views: Many campsites offer good views of Truman Lake.
  • Natural Setting: Fairly spread out campsites interspersed with trees.
  • Wildlife Encounters: Presence of wild turkeys.
  • Breathtaking Night Skies: Minimal light pollution for excellent stargazing.
  • Basic but Clean Showers.
  • Laundry Facilities: A surprising and convenient amenity.
  • Smooth and Safe Pavement.

Points to consider:

  • Uneven Campsites: Some sites may lack adequate flat space for tents.
  • Ants: Presence of big ants can be bothersome.
  • Mildewy Picnic Tables: May require cleaning or a tablecloth.
  • Lack of Ranger Contact Information: Difficulty in addressing disturbances.

For local users seeking "camping near me" with beautiful lake views and a natural setting, Wild Turkey Ridge Campground offers these appealing aspects. The opportunity to see wild turkeys and enjoy exceptional stargazing are unique features. However, potential campers should be aware of the possibility of uneven tent sites and the presence of ants. The availability of clean showers and laundry facilities are definite perks.

Promotional information, based on the reviews, would highlight the scenic beauty, the chance to see wildlife, and the stunning night skies. The laundry facilities could also be promoted as a convenient amenity.

To get more specific information about site availability and recommendations for tent camping spots, it might be helpful to contact the management or reservation system associated with this Corps of Engineers campground on Truman Lake. Inquiring about specific site characteristics might help you choose a location that better suits your needs, especially if you are tent camping.

In conclusion, Wild Turkey Ridge Campground near Warsaw, MO, provides a natural camping experience with beautiful lake views and exceptional stargazing. While there are some considerations regarding campsite flatness and insects, the overall environment and the presence of amenities like showers and laundry make it a contender for those seeking "camping near me" in the Truman Lake area. The unique opportunity to observe wild turkeys adds to its charm. Just be prepared for the natural environment, both its wonders and its minor inconveniences.

  • This campground was great and I have no complaints about the campground itself, but there is no way to contact a ranger. We were next to a group that was screaming and yelling until about 2 AM and had no way to contact anyone.

  • Great place water clarity is awesome great fishing. I had great luck on jointed n flicker shad. With bright blue n white. Tent spots are clean n well spaced. Love that most have access to quiet hidden shoreline.Shower house was actually quite clean n the water was hot.4 stars because the trails could use a little more maintenance n more warning about the apocalyptic ticks n chiggers. And it was a bit difficult 5o set up a tent without being on rocks. N they only sell fire wood from 5 to 7.

  • We came to stay only for one night while we were moving to MO. After a long drive it was great to see the park had very nice amenities. Showers were very clean along with the restrooms. Lots of water, swimming, fishing and a good size pad to park or camp
