With basic tent sites available for under $20, Long Shoal Campground offers an affordable and enjoyable option within the 'camping near me' category for both tent and RV campers.
The environment at Long Shoal Campground is a major draw for visitors. Situated directly on Truman Lake, many campsites offer pretty views of the pristine, glass-like lake, especially in the mornings. The campground boasts close proximity to the water, making it ideal for fishing enthusiasts. The grounds are well-maintained, with lawns that are regularly mowed, yet they retain a natural "camping" feel thanks to ample trees and natural landscaping. While some areas may offer stunning water views, the overall environment is one of natural beauty and tranquility. The lake itself is described as not being overpopulated, contributing to a serene and picturesque setting. The presence of a large beach area provides opportunities for sunbathing and enjoying the lake, although shade may be limited, suggesting the need for personal shade provisions. For those with boats, the ramp is reported to be easy to find and well-marked, with plentiful parking available for boat trailers, making lake access seamless.
Long Shoal Campground offers a range of services and amenities aimed at ensuring a comfortable and convenient stay. One frequently mentioned positive aspect is the clean bathhouse, which includes hot showers and laundry facilities – a significant convenience for both short and extended stays. The campground caters to both tent and RV campers, with reviewers successfully backing in trailers ranging from 33’ to 40’ with ease, indicating spacious and relatively obstruction-free sites. While most spots are fairly level and gravel-based (potentially requiring some additional leveling), it's important to note that electric hookups are limited, and those available are primarily 30amp. Water hookups at individual sites are not available, but the campground does provide a fill station and water spouts located throughout the grounds for filling water tanks and bottles. For dining and convenience, the Long Shoal Marina restaurant and store are located nearby. The restaurant offers both a regular menu and, at times, buffet specials (like a seafood buffet mentioned in a review), with indoor and outdoor seating options and alcoholic beverages available. The marina store within the same building stocks various items for sale, adding to the convenience for campers. The campground also has a system for early check-ins if a reserved spot is vacant before the official check-in time of 6 pm, with instructions provided at the booth.
Long Shoal Campground features several aspects that make it a preferred camping destination. Its prime location directly on Truman Lake with easy water access for fishing and boating is a significant advantage. The availability of a well-maintained boat ramp and ample trailer parking caters specifically to those looking to enjoy the lake. The clean bathhouse with hot showers and laundry facilities enhances the comfort of the camping experience. The spacious and relatively level gravel campsites, while potentially needing some leveling, can accommodate larger RVs. The presence of the Long Shoal Marina restaurant and store provides convenient options for meals and essential supplies without having to leave the immediate area. The stunning views of Truman Lake from many campsites are a notable feature, contributing to a relaxing and picturesque stay. The large beach area offers space for lakeside recreation. However, one area for potential improvement mentioned by a reviewer is the lack of clear signage within each loop to identify campsite numbers, which could cause initial confusion upon arrival. The limited number of electric hookup spots and the absence of individual water hookups are also features to consider when planning a stay, especially for RVers with specific power and water needs.
While the provided reviews do not explicitly mention any current promotional offers, Long Shoal Campground's basic site rates are noted to be under $20, indicating an already affordable option for camping on Truman Lake. For local users seeking budget-friendly 'camping near me', this price point is highly attractive. To inquire about any potential seasonal discounts, extended stay rates, or other special offers, it is recommended to contact the campground directly at (660) 438-2342 or +1 660-438-2342. Additionally, checking local tourism websites or the Warsaw, MO area information resources might reveal any package deals or promotions associated with camping in the region, potentially including Long Shoal Campground. Given its popularity and positive reviews, especially during peak season, it is advisable to book campsites in advance to secure a spot, particularly if a water-view site or one suitable for a larger RV is desired. Inquiring about site availability and any potential discounts when making a reservation is always a prudent step for local campers.
In conclusion, Long Shoal Campground offers a highly appealing camping experience for local users seeking a destination on Truman Lake near Warsaw, MO. Its clean facilities, including the bathhouse with hot showers and laundry, combined with its proximity to the lake for fishing and boating via an easy-to-access boat ramp, make it a favorite for many. The scenic views of the pristine lake and the well-kept grounds enhance the overall environment. While the campground has limited electric hookups and no individual water hookups, the availability of a fill station and water spouts addresses basic needs. The presence of the Long Shoal Marina restaurant and store adds significant convenience. Potential visitors should be aware of the gravel campsites and the need for potential leveling, as well as the reported lack of clear signage within the loops. Long Shoal Campground Reviews
Very nice campground for tent camping and RVs. Clean bathouse w hot showers and laundry. Sites are close to the water for fishing. Pretty views of Truman lake & it's great location makes this place fantastic! This was my 5th time staying here. Basic site under $20.
Jun 18, 2024 · Wanderlust OneThis was definitely worth the drive. We were meeting up with a few other campers. There wasn’t anyone at the booth when we arrived a little before 4pm, but the sign had instructions on early check-Ins. Basically, if there isn’t someone still in your spot, you can check in early. Otherwise, check in is at 6pm.My only real complaint here was the lack of signage on each loop. We pulled in to the first loop looking for our spots (040, 043, & 045) but the first loop wasn’t ours. Pulled into the next loop and found them. Other than the pole markers at each individual spot, there’s no signs telling you which numbers are down each loop. Better signage would prevent confusion in the future. Our trailer sizes were from 33’ to about 40’. Each of us were able to back our campers in with ease and no obstructions. Most spots are fairly level but are gravel so some require additional leveling than others. There aren’t a lot of electric hookup spots here and I believe all are 30amp. There are no water hookups but there is a fill station and water spouts located in various parts of the grounds. The grounds were very well kept! Lawns were mowed but there was still enough trees and natural landscaping that keeps the “camping” feel alive. If you’re lucky enough to get a water view, the views are stunning. This isn’t an overpopulated lake, so you’re looking at a pristine glass-like lake surface in the mornings. Absolutely beautiful. The beach is really large! Not a lot of shade but nothing that a beach umbrella or canopy wouldn’t fix.The ramp (if you’re dropping in) is easy to find and well marked. Parking is plentiful for boat trailers.Marina Restaurant :We always bring plenty of food when camping but some friends suggested that we try out the Long Shoal Marina restaurant. Our first night here we had heard they were doing a seafood buffet special so we tried it out. The parking is a little ways from the restaurant but there is also closer parking for disabled and people over 65. My kids enjoyed the walk down the bridge anyway. The facility is well kept, clean, and the staff is friendly. For the buffet, they required that you sanitize hands and then place food service gloves on before handling serving utensils (sanitizer and gloves are provided). If buffet isn’t your thing, they also have a regular menu (see menu pictures). There is also a selection of alcoholic drinks available. The indoor/outdoor seating options are a really nice touch! We enjoyed the buffet and my kids enjoyed mini corn dogs and fries. Everyone was pleased with their food.Marina store: within the same building as the restaurant, there’s a small store with various items for sale. We’ve already talked about booking future spots here. This is now in my top three favorite camping locations. Well done, Long Shoal!
