With glowing reviews from satisfied campers, this campground is described as a favorite for its beauty and well-kept facilities, offering a unique "mostly dry" camping experience in a wonderful location.
The provided customer reviews offer valuable insights into the environment, services, and features of Winhall Brook Campground, painting a picture of a tranquil and enjoyable natural retreat. While it’s important to note the "mostly dry" nature of the campground, the beauty of the location and the quality of the amenities seem to more than compensate for the limited utility hookups for many visitors.
The Beautiful Natural Environment:
The recurring theme in the reviews is the exceptional beauty of Winhall Brook Campground's location. Campers describe the scenery as "second to none" and "absolutely gorgeous." Situated in South Londonderry, Vermont, the campground likely benefits from the state's renowned natural landscapes, which could include:
- Riverside Setting: The mention of using the river to stay cool strongly suggests that the campground is located along the Winhall Brook, offering opportunities for wading, swimming, or simply enjoying the soothing sounds of flowing water. This river access is a significant feature, especially during warmer months.
- Wooded Areas: Vermont is known for its lush forests, and it's probable that the campsites at Winhall Brook are nestled among trees, providing shade, privacy, and a sense of immersion in nature.
- Scenic Views: The "absolutely gorgeous" description hints at potentially stunning views of the surrounding landscape, which could include rolling hills, forests, or perhaps even distant mountains.
- Well-Maintained Grounds: Reviewers consistently mention that the grounds are "kept maintained," "well mowed and trimmed," indicating an effort to preserve the natural beauty while ensuring a comfortable and tidy camping environment.
The location in southern Vermont places Winhall Brook Campground within reach of other natural attractions and outdoor activities the region has to offer, such as hiking trails, scenic drives, and charming Vermont villages.
Services and Amenities at a "Mostly Dry" Campground:
Winhall Brook Campground is described as a "3/4 'dry' Campground," meaning that most campsites do not offer direct water and electric hookups. Campers should be prepared to bring their own water for drinking, cooking, and cleaning, and plan for camping without electricity at most sites. However, the reviews also note a crucial exception: "a few sites with water/power on South side." This provides an option for those who require or prefer these amenities, although availability might be limited.
Despite being mostly dry, Winhall Brook Campground excels in providing other essential services and amenities:
- Clean Bathhouses: A major highlight is the cleanliness of the bathhouses, with reviewers noting they are "cleaned twice a day." This commitment to hygiene is a significant plus for any campground.
- Excellent Water Pressure and Temperature (in Bathhouses): For those using the showers, the reviews praise the "excellent water pressure" and "good and warm" water temperature.
- Large Outside Sink: A unique and highly appreciated feature is the "large outside sink to wash any pots/pans you may have." This thoughtful amenity adds convenience for campers who prefer to cook their meals at their sites.
- Dumping Station: For RV campers, there is an "easy to get in and out of" dumping station, indicating that while most sites might be without full hookups, the campground caters to RVs with this essential service.
- Maintained Grounds: As mentioned earlier, the well-maintained grounds contribute to a pleasant and comfortable camping experience.
The absence of widespread electric hookups encourages a more traditional camping experience focused on enjoying nature. Campers should plan accordingly for lighting (battery-powered lanterns), charging electronic devices (portable power banks), and food storage (coolers). The availability of a few sites with water and power on the south side offers a valuable option for those who need it, but it's advisable to inquire about these sites' availability when booking.
Features and Unique Aspects:
Winhall Brook Campground offers several features that make it a favorite among campers:
- River Access for Cooling: The direct access to the Winhall Brook provides a natural and enjoyable way to cool off during warm weather. This feature is repeatedly mentioned as a positive aspect of the camping experience.
- Emphasis on the Outdoor Experience: The "dry" nature of most campsites encourages campers to spend their days outside, enjoying the beautiful location and engaging in outdoor activities.
- Community Atmosphere: The reviews mention "good friends" and "great memories," suggesting a friendly and welcoming atmosphere among campers.
- Campfires and Good Food: The anticipation of campfires and good food is a classic element of the camping experience that Winhall Brook seems to foster.
- Tranquil Setting: The focus on natural beauty and the "mostly dry" setup might contribute to a quieter and more peaceful camping environment compared to campgrounds with extensive amenities and more activity.
- Spotty Cell Service: While some might see this as a drawback, the "spotty at best" cell service can also be viewed as an opportunity to disconnect from technology and fully immerse oneself in the natural surroundings.
The combination of natural beauty, clean and well-maintained facilities (especially the bathhouses and dishwashing sink), and the opportunity for a more traditional camping experience seem to be the key features that make Winhall Brook Campground so beloved by its visitors.

Winhall Brook Campground Reviews
Our favorite Campground! It's a 3/4 "dry" Campground (bring in your own water and no electric) but a few sites with water/power on South side. But it's beautiful!! Spending our days outside in a wonderful location, bath houses are cleaned twice a day with large outside sink to wash any pots/pans you may have, grounds are kept maintained and we use the river to stay cool. Plan on campfires, good food, good friends and great memories!!
Jun 24, 2023 · Lauri MikkolaThis is, by far, our favorite campground visit of the year. The bathrooms/showers are kept clean. The water pressure is excellent and the water temperature is good and warm. Not quite hot. Everything is kept well mowed and trimmed. Scenery is second to none. Absolutely gorgeous. Cell service is spotty at best. Most sites are without utilities. But some can be had in the south loop. Dumping station is easy to get in and out of.
Sep 21, 2022 · James MinihaneAmazing little spot in the middle of nowhere Vermont! Loved our stay. Really appreciated the trash bag given to us by the lady at check in, very nice little extra. Loved the dish washing station at the bathhouse, really handy since they were no hook up sites. No cell service to speak of but that kind of the point right? Overall we loved our stay and would stay there again if we were in the area.
Jul 20, 2022 · Lori NosalI would have to say that this is the best campground in Vermont. The army corps do an excellent job in maintaining the grounds. The bathrooms have flush toilets free hot showers and are always clean. Every site is large and has great grass. We go camping here at least 4 times a year and have never had a poor experience. Choose to relax in either the Winhall Brook or the West River. Walk, run or ride your bike on the trails. Some sites have power and water. Some sites have a lean-to. Cell service is not great and that makes it even better. We haven't stayed in a terrible site yet (I don't think there are any). To wrap this up, Winhall Brook Campground is a dog friendly, family friendly campground, and a great place to unplug and relax.
Jun 04, 2023 · Dan RennoldsonExcellent campground with hot showers. The lean to sheds are very helpful for an extra bit of cover/shelter from the elements.Firewood for sale from the ranger or you can find it on the ground on the woodlands. The grounds next to the river are particularly beautiful!Highly recommended and we'll be returning next year!
