Grout Pond Recreation Area Introduce
For local users exploring the "camping near me" category, Grout Pond Recreation Area, located at Grout Pond, Stratton, VT 05360, offers a potentially serene and nature-focused camping experience in the beautiful state of Vermont. While a phone number for direct contact isn't provided in the available information, its location in Stratton suggests a gateway to outdoor activities and natural beauty that Vermont is renowned for.
The environment of Grout Pond Recreation Area, as suggested by the customer reviews, is characterized by its beauty and quietness. Situated by Grout Pond, campers can anticipate a setting surrounded by the natural landscapes of Vermont, likely including woodlands and the tranquil waters of the pond itself. One reviewer described it as a "beautiful, quiet park," highlighting the peaceful atmosphere that visitors can expect. The presence of the pond indicates opportunities for water-based activities such as fishing and boating, further enhancing the natural appeal of the area.
Based on the limited information available, Grout Pond Recreation Area seems to primarily cater to tent camping. One review mentions that "many tent sites around the pond are open," suggesting that tent campers will find suitable accommodations. However, another review noted that "most camping spots in the Grout Pond camping area remain blocked off with snowfence," indicating that the availability of all sites might be subject to seasonal conditions or maintenance. Local users planning to camp should be mindful of this and potentially seek more up-to-date information on site availability, possibly through local Vermont tourism resources or by physically visiting the area if feasible.
A significant feature of Grout Pond Recreation Area is the access it provides to Grout Pond itself. One reviewer specifically mentioned "pond access for fishing and boat access is open." This highlights the recreational opportunities available to visitors. The reviewer also noted decent fishing, specifically mentioning a "healthy smallmouth bass population." For anglers searching within the "camping near me" category, the prospect of fishing for smallmouth bass in a beautiful and quiet setting could be a major draw. The same reviewer also expressed hoping for trout but indicated that the pond "doesn’t seem like this is a trout water anymore," which provides valuable information for those specifically interested in trout fishing.
In terms of services and features, the reviews provide limited details. The mention of a "clean and well maintained" site in early August suggests that the basic upkeep of the camping areas is satisfactory, at least during certain times of the year. However, there is no information provided about other potential amenities such as restrooms, water sources, picnic tables, or fire pits. The focus of the reviews is primarily on the environment and the recreational activities available, particularly fishing and boating access to Grout Pond.
Given the limited information, local users considering Grout Pond Recreation Area for their "camping near me" search should be aware that details about the full range of services and the specifics of the camping facilities are not readily available in the provided reviews. The area's appeal seems to lie in its natural beauty, quiet atmosphere, and access to Grout Pond for fishing and boating, primarily for tent campers.
To obtain a more comprehensive understanding of Grout Pond Recreation Area, local users may want to seek additional information regarding:
- The specific types of campsites available and whether RV camping is permitted (though the reviews suggest a focus on tent camping).
- The availability and condition of amenities such as restrooms, water sources, fire pits, and picnic tables.
- Any fees associated with camping or using the pond for fishing and boating.
- Regulations regarding boating (e.g., types of boats allowed, permits required).
- Seasonal availability of camping sites and any potential impact of snow or other weather conditions.
- Specific rules and regulations for the recreation area, including any guidelines for preserving its quiet and natural environment.
- Information about hiking trails or other recreational activities in the vicinity.
- Contact information for the managing authority or local tourism office that could provide more details.
For local campers in Vermont looking for a tranquil camping experience centered around nature and water activities, Grout Pond Recreation Area offers a promising option within the "camping near me" category. The beauty and quietness of the area, combined with the opportunity for fishing and boating in Grout Pond, are significant attractions. However, the limited information about services and the potential for site closures due to conditions like snow warrant further investigation by prospective visitors to ensure it meets their needs.
In conclusion, Grout Pond Recreation Area in Stratton, VT, presents itself as a beautiful and quiet camping destination for local users, particularly those interested in tent camping and activities like fishing for smallmouth bass and boating on Grout Pond. While the natural environment and recreational access are highlighted positively, the lack of detailed information about amenities and the potential for seasonal site closures suggest that local campers should seek additional details from relevant sources before planning their visit to this potentially serene "camping near me" location.

Grout Pond Recreation Area Reviews
Beautiful, quiet park. Spent a night here in early August, site was clean and well maintained. Fishing was decent, pond seems to have a healthy smallmouth bass population. Was hoping for trout but doesn’t seem like this is a trout water anymore.

Jun 15, 2020 · Solar GumbyAbsolutely beautiful area. Perfectly wild. You can just visit it during the day, or find a camping spot and camp overnight (overnight is $16 a night).
Jun 16, 2018 · Elizabeth MartinKayaking on Grout Pond is LOVELY. It's a particularly beautiful spot. I grew up going to summer camp in nearby Newfane (my parents house was in South Newfane) & we'd do Kayaking/hiking/overnight camping trips to Grout at least 2-3 times throughout the Summer.Later on, when I was in college down in Western Massachusetts, I coached my Alma Mater's Alpine ⛷️ Racing Team, and we'd hike my: "home 🏔️'s" (Haystack, Mt. Snow & Stratton) every Fall 🍁 during the foliage as a team-building exercise, and when we'd do the hike up Stratton, we'd Kayak/camp out at Grout the day before.
May 17, 2023 · Ben SchaefferAbsolutely gorgeous spot with unmatched views and a grand variety of sites. There are 11 camping locations by the water including raised platforms, covered platforms, grills for campfire dining, and scenic spots further inland raised onto a hill. Built in 3/4 mi hike to spot 11 that circumnavigates the other campers, and 3 mile trail up the mountain. The trail designated "Camp Trail" does NOT lead to the sites!! This is the 3/4 mi hike that goes around the campground (we learned this the hard way - haha). Definitely coming back after mud season, one of the most beautiful locations I've ever visited.
