The environment surrounding Howell's Camping Area is consistently praised for its natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere. Situated in a "stunning location" with "pristine views," the campground offers a chance to truly relax and connect with nature. The presence of a "gorgeous lake with the mountains behind it" suggests a picturesque setting where campers can enjoy waterfront views and the backdrop of Vermont's rolling hills. One reviewer even described it as the "quietest campground I’ve ever been to," highlighting its appeal for those seeking a respite from noise and the hustle of everyday life. The fact that it's located on "No Name Rd" might further contribute to its secluded and tranquil ambiance, away from main thoroughfares and heavy traffic.
Howell's Camping Area is described as family-run, and this personal touch seems to translate into exceptional service and a welcoming atmosphere. One reviewer recounted a "wonderful experience" where the owner was "SO kind and friendly," even loaning them a personal kayak for their son to try – free of charge. This level of generosity and hospitality towards "total strangers" speaks volumes about the owners' commitment to creating a positive experience for their guests. The sentiment of being "made to feel SO welcome" is a recurring theme, suggesting that visitors can expect a warm and friendly reception.
The campground caters to both tent and RV campers. One reviewer specifically mentioned "full hookup" sites, which are a significant feature for RV travelers, providing connections for electricity, water, and sewer. This indicates that Howell's Camping Area can accommodate the needs of those with recreational vehicles. For tent campers, the stunning lakeside location and quiet environment are major draws. The combination of tent and RV sites suggests a diverse camping community that appreciates the natural beauty and peaceful setting.
A notable feature of Howell's Camping Area is its tranquility. Multiple reviewers emphasize the quiet atmosphere, with one even stating they were apologized to for "noise" that was barely perceptible. This makes it an ideal destination for those seeking a peaceful retreat without the typical sounds often associated with campgrounds, such as excessive traffic or loud activities. The absence of "tons of children running around screaming," as mentioned by one reviewer, further contributes to the serene environment, making it particularly appealing for adults and those who prefer a more relaxed and quiet camping experience.
While the primary focus seems to be on the natural beauty and peaceful ambiance, Howell's Camping Area does have some infrastructure in place. The mention of full hookups for RVs indicates the availability of essential utilities. Additionally, the generous loaning of a kayak suggests that there might be opportunities for water-based activities on the lake, although formal rentals were not mentioned in this instance. The fact that the owners are on-site and interact directly with guests implies a level of personal attention and assistance that might not be found at larger, more impersonal campgrounds.
One potential drawback mentioned in the reviews is the Wi-Fi connectivity. One reviewer was unable to stay because the campground's Wi-Fi was down due to a storm, and their own mobile hotspot signal was weak in the valley location. This suggests that while the setting offers a sense of being "off the grid" with "no highway noise," internet connectivity might be unreliable or limited. For those who need to stay connected for work or other reasons, this is an important consideration. However, the same reviewer expressed a desire to return "when I don’t have to stay connected to the world," highlighting the appeal of the campground's peaceful and scenic qualities for a true escape.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information provided in the reviews. However, the overwhelmingly positive testimonials, emphasizing the stunning location, exceptional hospitality, and tranquil atmosphere, serve as a strong endorsement for Howell's Camping Area. The willingness of the owner to go above and beyond for guests, as illustrated by the kayak incident, suggests a level of care that is a significant draw in itself. For local users searching within the "camping near me" category for a quiet, family-run campground with beautiful lake and mountain views, Howell's Camping Area appears to offer a truly wonderful experience.
In summary, Howell's Camping Area in Arlington, VT, offers a serene and welcoming lakeside camping retreat with breathtaking mountain views. Its family-run nature is reflected in the exceptional kindness and hospitality of the owners, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for guests. With options for both tent and RV camping (including full hookups), it caters to a range of camping preferences. The standout feature is its tranquility, making it an ideal destination for those seeking peace and quiet away from the noise of everyday life. While Wi-Fi connectivity might be a concern for some, the stunning natural beauty and the personal touch of the owners make Howell's Camping Area a highly recommended choice for a memorable camping experience near you.

Howell's Camping Area Reviews
What a wonderful experience!! My son and I went tent camping here and were made to feel SO welcome. The owner was SO kind and friendly, even loaning us - total strangers - his personal kayak so that my son could try it out. Wouldn’t even let me rent it from him!! Such a stunning location, with pristine views that had us completely relaxed and one with nature. They even apologized to me for the “noise” - this is literally the quietest campground I’ve ever been to! I am positive we’ll be back!! Thank you kindly Howell’s, you gave us wonderful memories.
Jul 29, 2023 · Beth SealesWe were here last month but unfortunately couldn’t stay due to their WiFi being down from the storm a night before & my wifi on the roof wasn’t getting good signal from being in the valley. My co-pilot (my service dog) & I work from my RV so we can travel but some type of WiFi is needed. We took 3wks & started in NJ going north spending 3-5 days in each state. I found this campground w/ very reasonable rates & full hookup if that’s what u need. It’s seems to be a quiet place without tons of children running around screaming. It’s family run & they are super friendly & very helpful. I paid for 3 nights before knowing their WiFi was down & mine not working due to being in the valley. She completely understood & refunded my money without no issues.I was kinda disappointed I couldn’t stay due to no WiFi & work but I will return when I don’t have to stay connected to the world as they had us right in front of the gorgeous lake with the mountains behind it & at the time, the people we would of been next too was playing a banjo that was so nice to hear w/ the surroundings. If u are looking for quiet, off the grid, no highway noise, friendly campground that allows dogs w/out grief then this is the place to be. I will be back when I’m not worrying about work & the world.
Aug 20, 2024 · Michele McGuireIt’s funny how many people liked this place, we visited and the pile of junk you see on arrival sets the tone for the park. Honestly the roads are in poor condition and I am glad to have left my camper home. When folks describe rustic they are being nice
Jul 04, 2024 · T MakAwesome campground perfect if you like peace and quiet. Owner was super friendly and knowledgeable of the area. I went to fish the streams local to that area and he was able to put me on fish. The Battenkill is a 300 yard walk from the campground. Great place to stay for a fishing trip! Also rates were very reasonable.
May 30, 2022 · whirling vaporsIf you are looking for a Koa, keep scrolling. However, if you are looking for a quiet place to camp with full hookups, this is it. The place is a bit outdated but family run and everyone is so friendly. We camped right across from the pond and it was so nice sitting out by the fire.
