Zumbro Bottoms Horse Campground - West Introduce
For local users in Minnesota seeking a unique camping experience that caters specifically to horseback riding, Zumbro Bottoms Horse Campground - West, located in Kellogg, might be the ideal destination within the 'camping near me' category. Situated at T-83, Kellogg, MN 55945, USA, this campground has garnered positive feedback for its exceptional trail system and horse-friendly amenities, although some recent changes have been noted by returning visitors.
The environment of Zumbro Bottoms Horse Campground - West is clearly geared towards equestrian activities. The standout feature, repeatedly praised by visitors, is its network of "awesome trails" suitable for all levels of riders, from beginners to advanced. These trails offer a diverse riding experience, including flat stretches, narrow paths, wider sections, sandy areas, and rocky terrain. Some trails even provide the opportunity to "lay back and give your horse their head," suggesting open areas where horses can move more freely. The trails are reported to be "well maintained and taken care of," indicating a commitment to providing a safe and enjoyable riding environment for both horse and rider.
A significant advantage for equestrians camping at Zumbro Bottoms is the presence of water access directly on the trails. This allows riders to conveniently water their horses during their excursions, a crucial feature for longer rides and ensuring the well-being of the animals. The campground also provides several watering stations specifically for horses, with one review mentioning "4 or 5 different watering stations" available within the camping area. This abundance of water sources underscores the campground's dedication to accommodating the needs of horse owners.
In terms of services and features for campers themselves, Zumbro Bottoms Horse Campground - West offers a more rustic or "primitive" camping experience. It is explicitly stated that the campground does not offer the convenience of electricity and water hookups at the campsites. This is an important consideration for those who prefer more modern amenities. However, the campground does provide essential facilities, including four bathrooms for campers' use. While the number of bathrooms is mentioned, further details about their condition or specific features are not provided in the reviews.
Regarding payment, there has been a recent change in the payment system, which one reviewer found "a little bit confusing." The campground has transitioned to online payments, which this particular visitor had difficulty with. However, it's important to note that Zumbro Bottoms still offers mail-in payment options. Information about this alternative payment method can be found on the "big brown welcome sigh/map" located at the entrance of the campground. This dual payment system attempts to accommodate different preferences and technological comfort levels.
While the majority of the feedback highlights the excellent riding trails and horse-friendly amenities, one long-time visitor expressed some concerns about recent changes. They mentioned the closure of "a lot of trails" and the widening of others into "four-lane highways." This has reportedly led to a change in the atmosphere, with the people there "not as easy going anymore." This sentiment suggests that the character of the campground might be evolving, and potential visitors who have been in the past might notice these differences. The reviewer even considered not returning due to these changes, indicating a potentially significant impact on the overall experience for some.
For local users within the 'camping near me' category who are passionate about horseback riding and seek a campground primarily focused on equestrian activities, Zumbro Bottoms Horse Campground - West remains a strong contender. The well-maintained trails catering to all skill levels, combined with the invaluable water access on the trails and multiple watering stations within the campground, are significant advantages. The primitive camping experience, without electricity and water hookups at the sites, might appeal to those who prefer a more traditional outdoor stay. The availability of bathrooms is a basic necessity provided.
However, potential visitors should be aware of the recent changes mentioned by a returning camper, including trail closures and widening, which may have altered the trail network and the overall ambiance of the campground. It might be beneficial to inquire directly with the campground management, using the provided phone numbers ((651) 345-3401 or +1 651-345-3401), to get the most up-to-date information on trail availability and any other recent developments. Similarly, if you anticipate any issues with online payment, be prepared to utilize the mail-in option, the details of which are available upon arrival.
Promotional information is not available in the provided reviews. Local users are encouraged to contact the campground directly via phone to inquire about any current promotions, camping fees, or specific regulations. The pricing for camping per night was described as "fair for what you get," but it's always advisable to confirm the current rates. In conclusion, Zumbro Bottoms Horse Campground - West offers a unique and highly-rated experience for equestrian campers within the 'camping near me' search. Its exceptional trail system and horse-centric amenities make it a standout destination, but awareness of recent trail modifications and the primitive camping style is essential for planning your visit.

Zumbro Bottoms Horse Campground - West Reviews
Its my absolute favorite place but recently they have been closing a lot of trails and making some of them four lane high ways and the people there are not as easy going anymore because of those things I have considered not coming back
Sep 03, 2024 · Amanda BulmanGreat place to ride. Awesome trails, has water access so u can water horses on trail. Trails are well maintained an taken care of. Have trails for all levels of riders from beginners to advanced. Some flat, some skinny, some wide, some sandy, some rocky, some where you just gotta lay back an give your horse there head. If you like camping but like the convince of electricity and water hook up this is not the place for you then as it does not have that, however it does have 4 bathroom and 4 or 5 different watering stations where you can get water to water you horse. Pricing for camping per night is fair for what you get, but as for the way you have to pay now that's a little bit confusing having to pay online now. At least it was for me I couldn't get it to work. They do still offer mail in payment options as well which are located on big brown welcome sigh/map as your pulling into camp.
Nov 21, 2024 · C AGreat camping, great trails. Only downfall no electricity but who cares for the price and experience!
Jun 09, 2018 · Dana KGreat place loved the trails. Power would be nice would pay more to camp. Not much for air movement in camp ground so gets hot at night due to generator has to be off at 10 pm.
Oct 03, 2021 · Jesse AndreoffScenic trails I recommend shoes for your horses some trails are rocky and could be a challenge for the novice rider. Give this area a try great for a long relaxing weekend. No cell service unless you ride up to the overlook.
