Morro Dunes RV Park Introduce
For those searching for "RV parks near me" with a desire for a quintessential California coastal experience, Morro Dunes RV Park in Morro Bay, CA, stands out primarily due to its exceptional location. Situated at 1700 Embarcadero, Morro Bay, CA 93442, the park boasts a direct proximity to the beach, offering a unique opportunity for RVers to have the "beach right in your camp spot's backyard." This unparalleled access to the natural beauty of Morro Bay, including views of the iconic Morro Rock, makes it a significant draw for many travelers. The park can be contacted at (805) 772-2722 or +1 805-772-2722 for reservations and inquiries.
The prime asset of Morro Dunes RV Park is undoubtedly its location. It is positioned "across the street from Morro Rock Beach," providing immediate access to the sand and surf. Furthermore, it is within "walking distance to the harbor walk, restaurants, bars, etc.," making it incredibly convenient for guests to explore Morro Bay's charming waterfront, enjoy local cuisine, and experience the vibrant atmosphere without needing to drive. This walkability to attractions is a major advantage for visitors looking to immerse themselves in the local culture and scenery. The park itself is described as "very well maintained," suggesting a commitment to cleanliness and orderliness within the campground. The overall environment, enhanced by the stunning coastal backdrop, contributes to a generally "very enjoyable visit" for many.
However, some feedback indicates that while the location is "fantastic," there can be a "sense of age and degradation that permeates the park" due to the presence of many older RVs. This aspect might influence the overall aesthetic and feel of the park for some visitors seeking a more modern or uniformly new environment. Despite this, the natural beauty and accessibility to key attractions remain a constant and significant positive.
Morro Dunes RV Park offers several key services and features designed to enhance the RV camping experience. The park provides "clean bathrooms and showers," which are essential amenities for any RV park. The showers are noted as "large and individually enclosed," offering privacy, though a design oversight means "there is no curtain so the spray gets anything damp in that enclosed area." This detail, while minor for some, highlights a potential area for improvement in guest comfort. The park also features "multiple washing/drying machine buildings," providing convenient on-site laundry facilities for guests. However, a significant point of contention for some is that these machines "take only quarters." In 2025, when many guests may not carry cash, the lack of "online and app capable" payment options is seen as a considerable inconvenience and a "completely unacceptable" feature by some modern travelers.
The park is broadly advertised as "pet friendly," which is a crucial feature for many RV travelers with animal companions. However, the implementation of this policy has drawn strong criticism from some pet owners. While the park is indeed pet-friendly, it has a strict rule that "ANY grass spot is off limits to dogs," with the "ONLY place on property for dogs to do their business" being a "mud filled dog run that's nasty after a rain." This restrictive policy, reportedly due to issues with some owners not cleaning up after their pets, is seen as "punishing good owners for bad owner habits" and has led some pet owners to state they "will not likely be back for this alone." This is a critical point for dog owners to consider when evaluating Morro Dunes RV Park.
Morro Dunes RV Park promotes itself through its unparalleled location and direct beach access. The friendly atmosphere, with "everyone is very friendly," contributes to a welcoming environment. The presence of a "bike / walking path to the shopping/restaurant area" is also a significant promotional point, encouraging guests to explore the area actively and enjoy the outdoors. For those seeking "RV parks near me" that prioritize immediate access to coastal activities and local attractions, Morro Dunes RV Park is certainly positioned as a premier choice.
However, potential visitors, particularly those with pets or those expecting modern conveniences, should carefully weigh the advantages against the noted limitations. While the location is consistently lauded as "fantastic," the current state of pet facilities and the quarter-only laundry machines are points that may detract from the overall experience for some. The presence of older RVs, while perhaps not an issue for all, contributes to a perceived "sense of age and degradation" that might affect some guests' comfort levels. It is advisable for prospective guests to contact the park directly at (805) 772-2722 to inquire about specific site availability, current rates, and to confirm any pet policies or amenity updates. Visiting the park or looking at recent traveler photos online could also provide a more current visual understanding of the park's condition and help set appropriate expectations.
Ultimately, Morro Dunes RV Park presents a compelling option for its prime location in Morro Bay, offering direct beach access and walkability to local attractions. For RVers whose priority is proximity to the ocean and a vibrant coastal town, and who are prepared to manage the specific pet and laundry policies, it offers a highly enjoyable experience. However, for those with different priorities regarding pet amenities, modern payment systems, or a more uniformly contemporary park aesthetic, these factors warrant careful consideration.

Apr 09, 2025 · Anna LMisses the mark for us. Lots of potential. Great location but stumbles when compared against contemporary parks with 2024 expected services. The big one, and for us its huge, they seem to dislike pets. There is a mud filled dog run that's nasty after a rain however that is the ONLY place on property for dogs to do their business. ANY grass spot is off limits to dogs. I suspect what is going on is people don't clean up after their dogs but punishing good owners for bad owner habits doesn't cut it. We'll not likely be back for this alone but it's not the only issue. They have multiple washing/drying machine buildings but they take only quarters. It's 2025, get the machines online and app capable. Getting quarters when I, and many if not most others, don't carry any cash, also completely unacceptable. Bathroom facilities are decent. Showers etc but while the showers are large and individually enclosed there is no curtain so the spray gets anything damp in that enclosed area. That's kinda the story with this park. Potential but botched. Finally a thought that might get backlash but oh well. I always thought it was odd when an RV park put mfg year limits on RVs they will accept reservations for. But then we come here and there are many, many 20, 30 and probably 40+ year old trailers and coaches. I liked seeing a few old girls still chugging along but en masse like it is here, it does create a sense of age and degradation that permeates the park. Felt mildly unsafe. We had no issues but this is a review and if management sees this I bet if you upgrade a few key areas you will have no problem filling up every spot even with age restrictions for the guest vehicles. Because, the location is fantastic. Across the street from Morro Rock Beach. Walking distance to the harbor walk. Restaurants, bars etc. Unfortunately for us the bad does outweigh the good. Not likely we'll be back.
Dec 31, 2024 · Kevin WebbFirst time visiting Morro Bay and this RV park is perfectly located across from the dunes. Numerous spots and ours was a great location just steps to a gate and then onto the dunes or a short walk to the bridge. Views are stunning! Front staff was welcoming when I walked in to check-in for the week.Reason for 3 stars instead of 5:1) Unable to book online. The office is state of the art with several computers and several employees. Website is nicely designed. To make or change a reservation, you have to call each time.2) WiFi is horrible! We came down for the week so I could work remotely (good for personal usage, yet not compatible with my company's VPN.) Because of this, I have to go to a McDonald's to connect to my VPN for work purposes. When I called the office to express my disappointment, I was met with indifference and no empathy or what can be done to make things right. However, on day 4 of our stay, I was able to shut off access to the park's WiFi and use my personal hotspot (finally!) At that point, no further connectivity issues and no more going to McDonald's to work.3) Courtesy in not being jammed up by others when trying to disconnect our tow-behind and then maneuver our 34' class A into our spot. Had 2 other guests in their pickups or 5th wheels not realize that others are trying to park. Suggest a pullout area for staging travelers waiting to check in.4) Neighbors in the next spot were loud, vulgar, and brought in guests from 10:00AM to almost Midnight most evenings. These were also some of the people who were jamming us up as we tried to back into our spot. While I'm confident we will stay here again due to location and views and coastal access, I would welcome someone in leadership at their office to reach out and address these issues.
