Salt Bayou Kampground Introduce
Are you searching for "RV parks near me" in the Slidell, Louisiana region, perhaps as a base for exploring New Orleans, Bay St Louis, or other Gulf Coast attractions? Salt Bayou Kampground, located at 56009 LA-433, Slidell, LA 70461, USA, presents an interesting option for RV travelers. Contactable at (985) 402-5891 or +1 985-402-5891, this campground is currently in the process of significant development and improvement, according to recent customer reviews.
One detailed review highlights a discrepancy between the park's online portrayal of amenities and its current state. While acknowledging that many features mentioned online are not yet fully operational, the reviewer noted a high level of ongoing activity, with approximately a dozen projects underway simultaneously. This suggests a proactive effort by the park management to bring the advertised amenities to fruition. For those searching within the "RV parks near me" category and considering a stay at Salt Bayou Kampground, it's important to be aware that some facilities may still be under construction.
Specific examples of ongoing development include a mini-golf course where the green "grass" was awaiting installation and the putters and balls were not immediately visible (though potentially stored elsewhere). The kayak launch was also under construction, with the deck lacking planks, rendering it unusable at the time of the review. These details indicate that while the infrastructure for certain amenities is in progress, they may not be available for immediate use.
On the positive side, the reviewer found the bathhouse to be clean and the showers serviceable, although they noted that it could benefit from some sprucing up. Additionally, the presence of what appeared to be "very newish washers and dryers" in the laundry facility was a plus, although cleanliness was an issue as they hadn't been cleaned by the previous users. This suggests that while the laundry equipment is modern, attention to cleaning protocols might be needed.
A significant highlight of Salt Bayou Kampground, according to this reviewer, was the "fantastic" asphalt roadway throughout about half of the park. This is a considerable advantage for RVs navigating the grounds and can significantly improve the overall experience, especially in terms of dust and ease of movement. The planned addition of pea gravel to the individual sites is expected to further mitigate mud issues after rain, addressing a common concern in many "RV parks near me," particularly in coastal regions.
Overall, this reviewer offered a balanced perspective, acknowledging that Salt Bayou Kampground is "not perfect" at present but giving an "A for effort" to the management for the visible progress being made. They also expressed anticipation for a return visit to experience the park once more of the advertised amenities are completed, indicating a positive outlook on the future potential of the campground.
Another review offers a more unequivocally positive experience, describing Salt Bayou Kampground as "a great place to stay." This reviewer specifically praised the location as "perfect for visiting New Orleans, Bay St Louis and numerous tourist attractions." This is a significant advantage for those searching "RV parks near me" with the intention of exploring the vibrant culture and history of the Gulf Coast region. The accessibility to major points of interest makes Salt Bayou Kampground a strategically located base for tourism.
This reviewer also echoed the sentiment regarding the ongoing improvements, stating that "the park owners are working hard to improve the campground and are doing excellent job." This reinforces the impression of a dedicated management team actively enhancing the facilities and overall guest experience. For potential visitors, this commitment to development suggests that the park is likely to become an even more appealing option over time.
A particular highlight of this positive review was the exceptional service provided by Susan, the campground manager, who was described as "totally amazing." Her welcoming demeanor upon arrival and her efforts to ensure the campsite was perfect for a large 5th wheel were specifically commended. Furthermore, Susan provided valuable local recommendations for dining, parades, and general sightseeing, demonstrating a commitment to guest satisfaction that goes beyond basic campground management. This level of personalized service can significantly enhance a visitor's experience, especially for those new to the area and relying on local expertise.
Based on this overwhelmingly positive interaction with the management and the strategic location, this reviewer "would totally recommend staying here if you want to do anything in the New Orleans area." They also expressed their intention to stay at Salt Bayou Kampground on their next visit to the region, indicating a high level of satisfaction and loyalty.
Considering both reviews, Salt Bayou Kampground appears to be a promising option for those searching "RV parks near me" in the Slidell area, particularly for those interested in exploring nearby tourist destinations like New Orleans and Bay St Louis. While some of the amenities advertised online are still under development, the park is actively undergoing improvements, with visible progress being made. The management, especially Susan, the campground manager, receives high praise for their hard work, welcoming attitude, and helpfulness.
For potential visitors, it would be prudent to contact Salt Bayou Kampground directly to inquire about the current status of specific amenities and any ongoing construction that might impact their stay. Understanding the timeline for the completion of projects like the mini-golf and kayak launch could help in planning their visit. Additionally, confirming the availability and cleanliness of the laundry and bathhouse facilities would be advisable.
The positive feedback regarding the asphalt roadways in a significant portion of the park and the planned pea gravel for sites suggests an effort to create a comfortable and less muddy environment. This is a significant advantage to consider when comparing "RV parks near me," especially in a region prone to rain.
In conclusion, Salt Bayou Kampground offers a compelling option for those seeking "RV parks near me" in Slidell, Louisiana, particularly due to its strategic location for exploring the Gulf Coast. While the park is currently undergoing significant improvements, the positive reviews highlight the dedicated management and the potential for a great stay. Prospective visitors should be aware of the ongoing development and contact the park directly for the most up-to-date information on amenities and facilities. The positive trajectory and the enthusiastic recommendations from recent guests suggest that Salt Bayou Kampground is a place to watch as it continues to evolve and enhance its offerings.

Salt Bayou Kampground Reviews
The park is portrayed online as if it is complete with a wide array of amenities. It is not.Yet.But there was nearly constant activity each day we were there and they were hard at work on about a dozen projects at one time. So TECHNICALLY they don’t have a lot of the features mentioned online, but as long as their current pace continues, they will have many of the amenities completed soon. For example, they have mini golf, but no green “grass” laid down (it’s sitting under an awning awaiting installation). Also, no where to be found were the putters and balls, but to be fair they might have been hidden somewhere. The kayak launch was still being built, but the deck had no planks attached, so launching was a moot point.Bathhouse was clean and showers serviceable. Just needed a little sprucing up. Another positive was what appeared to be very newish washers and dryers, but they had hadn’t been cleaned by whoever used them last.Biggest positive was the asphalt roadway throughout about half the park, and it’s fantastic. Once they get pea gravel in the sites, it should reduce a lot of the mud issues after any amount of rain. All in all, not perfect, but A for effort so far, and we can’t wait to come back again and experience the park as is described on their website!

She was very welcoming when we arrived and went above and beyond to ensure our campsite was perfect for our large 5th wheel. She had great recommendations for places to dine, parades to attend and places to go in general.I would totally recommend staying here if you want to do anything in the New Orleans area.We are looking forward to our next visit to the area and we will be staying here for sure.
Mar 13, 2025 · Christine SmeathHad an excellent experience staying here. They are doing an excellent job cleaning up and restoring the park. They laid brand new black top and they are building a kayak launch. They are also restoring the mini golf course and they just redid the laundry room. Staff are very friendly. Great food around the area, Kenney seafood, camellia city pizza and GilliGil’s. Also very easy to get to New Orleans and there’s a swamp tour company just minutes from the campground.
Mar 30, 2025 · Brenda KrauseWell been here a month now. No issues owners seem to be diving in head first making improvements! Our site backs up to salt bayou which is awesome! If we come back this way we will definitely book here!!!!!!!!! We loved our time here!
Apr 17, 2025 · Sterling MitchelllWhen we first arrived the park seemed shabby and we felt unsure about the place. The pathways need leveling and the play areas could use attention but the bathhouse was well kept and any question or assistance was addressed quickly. Prices for long term stay are very reasonable, we stayed only one month but could receive packages and we got to know some neighbors. It was overall a good experience and we were able to enjoy the Slidell area and get into New Orleans very easily.
