Sunset Bay Vacation Resort— RV Park & Marina Introduce
For local residents of Mayfield, New York, and the surrounding Adirondack region seeking "rv parks near me" that offer a lakeside experience with marina facilities, Sunset Bay Vacation Resort—RV Park & Marina presents a potential destination. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview of the resort based on available information, including real customer reviews, to highlight its environment, potential services, distinctive features, and important considerations for local users planning a visit. It's important to note that the provided reviews offer contrasting perspectives on the resort's atmosphere and management.
Embrace the Lakeside Environment on Paradise Point: Located on Paradise Point Road in Mayfield, Sunset Bay Vacation Resort is situated in a picturesque lakeside setting, likely on or near Great Sacandaga Lake or another significant body of water in the Adirondack foothills. The environment here would typically be characterized by the natural beauty of upstate New York, including wooded areas, scenic lake views, and opportunities for water-based activities. The name "Sunset Bay" suggests a location that might offer beautiful sunset views over the water. The presence of a marina indicates direct access to the lake for boating and related activities. Campers and visitors can likely expect a natural environment conducive to relaxation and outdoor recreation, with the sights and sounds of the lake being a central part of the experience.
The Adirondack region is known for its stunning natural landscapes, and staying at Sunset Bay would provide access to this beauty. The area around Mayfield offers opportunities for hiking, fishing, and exploring the charming towns and villages of the Adirondacks. The specific environment of the resort itself would likely include well-maintained grounds, campsites with varying degrees of shade and proximity to the lake, and the marina facilities.
Potential Services and Amenities at Sunset Bay RV Park & Marina: As an RV park and marina, Sunset Bay likely offers a range of services and amenities to cater to both RV campers and boaters. Based on general expectations for such resorts and the limited information from the reviews, these could include:
- RV Campsites: The resort would offer designated RV campsites, likely with varying levels of hookups for water, electricity (potentially 30 and 50 amp), and sewer. The size and layout of the sites, as well as their proximity to the lake and other amenities, would vary.
- Marina Services: The presence of a marina suggests boat docking facilities, potentially including seasonal and transient slips. Services might also include boat launch access, fuel sales, and possibly boat maintenance or repair services. The review mentions "great and protected" dock space.
- Restroom and Shower Facilities: Campgrounds typically provide restroom facilities with showers for their guests. The cleanliness and accessibility of these facilities are important aspects of the camping experience.
- Water and Sewer Hookups: As mentioned above, these would likely be available at some or all RV sites.
- Electrical Hookups: Reliable electrical service is essential for RVers.
- Trash Disposal: Proper waste management would be in place throughout the resort.
- Potable Water: Access to drinking water would be provided.
- Common Areas: The resort might have common areas for guests to enjoy, such as picnic areas, fire pits, or social gathering spaces.
- Recreational Facilities: Given the positive review mentioning "lots of events for everyone to enjoy," the resort might offer recreational facilities such as a playground, sports courts (e.g., basketball, volleyball), or organized activities.
- Camp Store: A camp store might be available to purchase basic camping supplies, snacks, and perhaps boating accessories.
- Wi-Fi Access: Many RV resorts offer Wi-Fi, although its availability and reliability can vary.
- Laundry Facilities: For longer stays, laundry facilities are often a necessary amenity.
The contrasting review highlights potential issues with management and rule changes over time, as well as a negative personal experience. While these are important points to consider, they do not negate the potential for the resort to offer a range of services and amenities. Local users are encouraged to contact the resort directly to inquire about the current services and facilities available.
Potential Features of Sunset Bay RV Park & Marina: Sunset Bay's combination of an RV park and marina likely results in several appealing features for local users:
- Lakeside Location with Water Access: The primary draw is likely its location on the water, providing opportunities for boating, fishing, swimming, and enjoying lake views.
- Marina Facilities: For boat owners, the on-site marina offers the convenience of docking and accessing the lake directly from their campsite.
- Family-Friendly Atmosphere: The positive review mentions a "family" atmosphere and "lots of events for everyone," suggesting a welcoming environment for families.
- Community Vibe: The friendly interactions between campers, staff, and workers, as noted in the positive review, can contribute to a strong sense of community.
- Potential for Social Activities: The "lots of events" suggest organized activities that can enhance the social experience for guests.
- Scenic Beauty of the Adirondacks: The location provides access to the natural beauty of the Adirondack foothills.
However, the negative review raises concerns about management practices, rule consistency, and customer service, which could significantly impact the overall experience. Local users might want to seek more recent reviews or directly communicate with the current management to understand the current atmosphere and policies of the resort.

It's the best! Everyone so friendly. Campers, staff, workers.Lots of events for everyone to enjoy. Dock space is great and protected by its beautiful bay. Come join the family and wonderful campers and staff!
Dec 12, 2024 · mike shiningSunset bay was a great place for us for 4 years we tolerated management changes and rules changing with each manager. One more confrontational than the next. We stayed out of the way. We came to sunset bay with 4 separate families. We have vacationed together for 20 years this was ideal for us. Our children were grown and we all looked forward to retirement together at the lake. We had a beautiful clean site and were never spoken to for breaking rules.During a management change our deposit was misplaced. Recurring managers sent us an eviction notice with 30 days to vacate before the season started this was March . We were shocked and offered to drive directly to campground to pay in full before season started. We were told absolutely not and in Glens words we dont want your kind here. We were heartbroken. But had felt we had no recourse. So we sold our camp. At the time of sale we were told that we are banned for life from entering the campground to visit our family and friends. This was in 2018. Last year we asked permission to come visit for ring of fire. We were there for 2 hours. I found out recently that the groundskeeper saw us and reported it to the owners who we have never met. And we are again banned for life. I know you are thinking theres more to the story. Theres not. We spent alot of money to be there and in the end treated horribly. This year it continues. We moved on but miss our friends. Very sad and confusing. I have had people urge us to fight this as we did nothing to be banned for life. I know the owners have heard this story but curious to know what was really said. Sunset Bay feel free to reach out to us to remedy this. You have a great campground that could be amazing with decent people running it. No one should ever be treated as we were and continue to be over a missing 600.00 check.

May 08, 2024 · jaydee carpenterThe Cafe is a great place to stop in for breakfast OR to get a sandwich or sub, burger, salad or sometimes a dinner special. You can sit down and eat or take it to go back to your site! Great food, great coffee, great prices, fun people! We also have lots of ice cream, popcorn and candy for the kiddos or your sweet tooth! Come see Jamie and I and we will whip you up some food made with TLC!
Jul 31, 2016 · Lisa StokelyI 100% agree with the majority of campers. And a lot of unhappy campers keep talking about how Management is horrible, disrespectful and rude!!! The diner owner is very rude and disrespectful also read part 2.I’m new this year and all ready can’t wait to sell my camp! With 2 bad experiences under my belt all ready.1. I went to the back gate which is exit only to let my son walk in to drop off his puppy. Well we were greeted by the “gate police drunk” yelling get the F out of here you don’t belong here. I said I have a site here and my son is dropping off his puppy, so he keeps yelling as my son is walking past his camp (I’m in my car watching closely) he says that’s it “I’m getting my gun” so at this point I quickly exited my vehicle and ran over to protect my son from this crazy...I also confronted him and called the cops. Upon asking to speak to mgmt Glenn (so far 6 days later) Glenn says with an attitude “You shouldn’t of left your car” “ You escalated it” I said are you kidding me? So I wasn’t supposed to protect my child? We will talk, I said when? This should of all ready been handled!2. Me and my fiancé made reservations after requesting another prime rib dinner and we were verbally assaulted by the leasee of the diner after we took 2-3 bites of our prime rib and couldn’t eat anymore because that night it was terrible. We politely waited for a( quiet non scene making chance) with full steaks sitting on our plates for an opportunity to tell the owner Rob Mendetta that it tasted dry and boom as soon as we did he said I asked you before and it was fine, No Rob the tails were fine we didn’t get into the steaks yet, he says in a heated tone well you should of said something earlier, we’ll we would of if someone came to check on us before just handing us the bill. He says well what do you want me to do, I said Idk? We can’t eat these we tried.. He then proceeds to stay embarrassingly loud and snatch the check up and said forget it just leave. We sat there stunned for 10 more minutes. We left a tip for the nice new waitress (which we found out disappeared and she never got it) so who took it???THEN as we left quietly but upset we were sitting in our golf cart talking about what just happened. Rob the diner owner comes out and from the deck in front of other campers says “ and don’t come back ever again” “ we all ready know your trouble in the park” more embarrassment. So I go back in because Mgmt Glenn and co were there to eat I told Glenn what happened and he shrugged me off and said so he leases the place there’s nothing he can do! Really Glenn, or is it your attitude with me for calling the cops on another camper???I would love to meet the owner in hopes she can be more understanding.
