AEP Recreation Land Campground C

Horse Run Rd, Cumberland, OH 43732, USA

4.0
FYI - Dry camping = no water, no electric, no dump station. There are dumpsters and pit toilets. Water is still turned off. Get registration sheet at the sign by the red building close to the entrance. It was quiet, though surprisingly busy, which was disappointing. Campsites seemed pretty clean but there were a few that didn't clean up after their dogs. Not cool! The park roads are well maintained and campers were respectful. There isn't much to do unless you have a small boat &/or like to fish. No trails that I could see but not a big deal. I was looking for a bit of peace & this fit the bill pretty well.I hope we will all do our part to keep places like this open. Follow the rules and clean up afterwards. Simple. - Kim Fornasari (barbarella20722)

Based on the available customer reviews, Campground C within the AEP Recreation Land provides a no-frills, back-to-nature camping opportunity, primarily catering to those comfortable with "dry camping" and boondocking.

One of the first things to note, as pointed out by a reviewer, is that "FYI - Dry camping = no water, no electric, no dump station." This sets clear expectations for the type of camping available here. The basic amenities include "dumpsters and pit toilets." It's also mentioned that "water is still turned off," reinforcing the need for campers to be entirely self-sufficient in terms of water supply. The registration process involves obtaining a sheet at the sign by the red building near the entrance. This indicates a simple, self-service approach to camping here.

Another camper described the environment as "quiet," which is often a significant draw for those seeking a peaceful escape. However, they also noted that it was "surprisingly busy," which was a bit disappointing for them. This suggests that while the atmosphere aims for tranquility, its popularity might sometimes lead to a less secluded experience. The cleanliness of the campsites was generally positive, although there were instances of some visitors not cleaning up after their dogs, a point of concern for this reviewer. On the positive side, "the park roads are well maintained," making access easier. The fellow campers were generally "respectful." This reviewer also mentioned that there isn't much to do in terms of structured activities unless you have a small boat for the lake or enjoy fishing. They didn't observe any trails, though this wasn't a major issue for them as they were primarily seeking peace, which they found the campground provided reasonably well.

A brief but important sentiment was shared by another visitor, expressing the hope that everyone would "do our part to keep places like this open" by following the rules and cleaning up afterwards. This highlights the importance of responsible camping, especially in less developed and potentially free or low-cost areas.

One reviewer explicitly recommended the campground as "Great for boondocking!" They reiterated that it operates on a "first come first served" basis in designated sites suitable for tents and self-contained RVs and trailers. Emphasizing the "dry camping" nature, they stated, "There is NO fresh/potable water available and only two pit toilets." While the toilets were described as "nice and clean," they advised bringing everything you might need, as the facilities could be a 10-minute walk or a short drive from some campsites.

Regarding recreational activities, this reviewer mentioned a "2.6 mike hiking trail around the lake," but noted that it was "overgrown and not maintained with a number of jumbled trees down on the west side." They suggested that the east side might be suitable for a short walk but didn't offer much in terms of scenery. In contrast, "Fishing seems to be the main pastime here as there are lots of small stocked lakes." This clearly indicates that the environment is conducive to fishing enthusiasts looking for "camping near me" with angling opportunities.

The environment of AEP Recreation Land Campground C can be characterized as natural and relatively undeveloped. The presence of lakes suggests potential for scenic views and fishing. The lack of extensive maintained trails points to a less structured outdoor experience, perhaps more suited for those who enjoy the quiet of nature without planned activities like hiking. The "dry camping" nature underscores a more primitive camping style.

In terms of services, the campground offers basic amenities: pit toilets and dumpsters for trash disposal. There is no potable water, no electricity hookups, and no dump station for RV black tanks (only dumpsters for general waste). The roads within the park are maintained, facilitating access to the campsites. Registration is self-service at the entrance.

The primary feature of AEP Recreation Land Campground C is its offering of free, "dry camping" in a potentially quiet, lakeside environment. This is a significant draw for those looking for budget-friendly "camping near me" and who are comfortable with a more self-sufficient camping style. The opportunity for fishing in the stocked lakes is another key feature.

There is no specific promotional information provided in the reviews. However, the very fact that it's a free camping area could be considered a major promotion for those seeking affordable outdoor experiences. The quiet atmosphere and the fishing opportunities are also implicitly promoted by the positive mentions in the reviews.
