One reviewer describes the campground as having "spacious and well kept" sites. This is a significant advantage for campers, as ample space can enhance privacy and comfort. Well-maintained grounds further contribute to a pleasant camping environment, indicating that the campground management prioritizes upkeep and aesthetics. For local users browsing "camping near me," the assurance of spacious and well-maintained sites can be a key factor in choosing a location.
A notable feature highlighted in the reviews is the presence of "a private beach area just for the campers." This amenity adds considerable value, especially during the warmer months, offering a dedicated space for swimming, sunbathing, and enjoying the waterfront without the potential crowds of a public beach. For families and individuals looking for "camping near me" with opportunities for water-based recreation, this private beach is a significant perk.
The availability of organized activities is another significant draw of Alum Creek State Park Campground. According to a reviewer, "The naturalists and camper hosts provide activities throughout the summer months, including hikes, weekend breakfasts, crafts, music, and more." This indicates a commitment to enhancing the camping experience through engaging programs suitable for various interests and age groups. For local users seeking "camping near me" that offers more than just a place to park their RV or pitch a tent, the planned activities provide added entertainment and opportunities for social interaction.
Nature enthusiasts will appreciate the "very nice" campground trails mentioned in one of the reviews. These trails reportedly offer "views of the forest and the lake," allowing campers to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the area. Hiking is a popular activity for many who seek "camping near me," and well-maintained trails with scenic views are a valuable asset. The combination of forest and lake scenery suggests a diverse and appealing environment for exploration.
Overall, one reviewer summarizes the campground as an "all around nice place to camp," which serves as a general endorsement of the positive aspects mentioned. This positive sentiment, coming from a camper who experienced the facilities and environment firsthand, adds credibility to the other specific praises.
Another reviewer echoed the cleanliness of the park, stating, "This park was very clean and the grounds were exceptionally manicured." This reinforces the impression of a well-maintained and cared-for environment, which is a crucial factor for many when choosing "camping near me." The attention to detail in manicuring the grounds suggests a commitment to providing a visually appealing and comfortable setting for campers.
Privacy is another benefit highlighted, with the reviewer noting that "most spots private lots of trees and spaces in-between each site." This is highly desirable for campers seeking a sense of seclusion and tranquility. Ample spacing and natural barriers like trees can significantly enhance the camping experience, making it feel more like a retreat into nature. For local users prioritizing privacy when looking for "camping near me," Alum Creek State Park Campground appears to deliver on this aspect.
One reviewer specifically mentioned staying in "B 37 nice private space on the water." Waterfront campsites are often highly sought after, offering beautiful views and easy access to the lake. This confirms that some sites at Alum Creek State Park Campground offer this premium feature. However, the same reviewer also noted a potential drawback: "traffic noise from major road and sirens this loop sits rite next to a major road." This is an important consideration for those sensitive to noise, as proximity to a major road can impact the peacefulness of the camping experience in certain loops.
Another significant issue raised by the same reviewer was the presence of "so much algae bloom that we couldn't access the water." They observed this both at their waterfront site and in the "K And L Loop" in the north part of the campsite. Algae blooms can be a seasonal issue in lakes and can restrict water activities. While the staff were acknowledged as "so very nice and helpful," the algae bloom was a notable negative aspect of their stay. This is an important factor for local users planning to engage in water activities when considering "camping near me" at Alum Creek State Park.
Despite the algae bloom, the reviewer did find an alternative, stating, "so we drove down the road and found a nice spot to put in kayaks." This suggests that there may be accessible points to the lake outside the immediate campground area, but it also highlights a potential limitation within the campground itself during certain times of the year. The staff's helpfulness in this situation was appreciated, indicating a positive service orientation.
In conclusion, Alum Creek State Park Campground offers a compelling "camping near me" option for local users in Delaware, Ohio. Its spacious and well-kept sites, private beach for campers, engaging summer activities led by naturalists and camper hosts, and scenic trails provide a wide range of appealing features. The cleanliness of the park and the privacy afforded by many campsites are also significant advantages. However, potential campers should be aware of the possibility of traffic noise in certain loops and the potential for seasonal algae blooms that might restrict direct water access within the campground. Despite these potential drawbacks, the overall positive feedback regarding the environment, activities, and staff suggests that Alum Creek State Park Campground is a worthwhile consideration for those seeking a local camping getaway, particularly if they value spacious sites, organized programs, and access to the natural beauty of the lake and surrounding forest.

Jan 16, 2025 · Patti JamesThis park was very clean and the grounds were exceptionally manicured, most spots private lots of trees and spaces in-between each site. We stayed in the B 37 nice private space on the water but traffic noise from major road and sirens this loop sits rite next to a major road.the downfall was so much algae bloom that we couldn't access the water drive up to the north part of the campsite K And L Loop and algae bloom was in fool affect so we drove down the road and found a nice spot to put in kayaks. The staff were so very nice and helpful thank you for all your kindness .
Aug 27, 2024 · Shauna BiedenharnConvenient location with good amenities. I will admit, we only stayed one night passing through. Did not have time to explore the entire park and campground. My rating is for the campground Sites at L loop, which were small. We traveled in our 32’ trailer. The only site with a water view is L17, but they are all labeled as “premium water view” sites. Same for K loop, only noticed one site with actual water view. Overall, park was clean and comfortable. Beware, lots of road noise most day and night. Everyone was friendly and quiet. I see great pictures and sites within this campground and nice lake access, so would consider staying again at another spot.
Aug 26, 2024 · Wailym CruzWe had a great time. Fun activities such as putt putt, nature center, fishing, trails, playgrounds, water/sand, volleyball, basketball, horseshoes, and more. Decent camp site. We have stayed so far in A, F, G, and R sections. F, and G are closer to trails and water. A is closer to park activities, store, and nature center. R is further out; however, we really enjoyed the site as well. We walked all the way to the other half of the campground which made for an adventurous experience for a 5yr old.
