Sunbury / Columbus North KOA Holiday Introduce
For local residents in the Sunbury and Columbus North areas of Ohio seeking "camping near me," the Sunbury / Columbus North KOA Holiday, located at 8644 Porter Central Rd, Sunbury, OH 43074, USA, presents itself as a potential option. As part of the KOA (Kampgrounds of America) network, it typically suggests a certain standard of amenities and services. They can be contacted at (740) 625-6600 or +1 740-625-6600 for inquiries and reservations. However, recent customer reviews indicate some potential issues that local users should be aware of when considering this campground.
Several reviewers have reported significant problems with the reservation process and site management at the Sunbury / Columbus North KOA Holiday. One customer, who was returning for their third consecutive year, experienced a situation where their pre-booked and paid-for "deluxe site" had been given away. This necessitated a last-minute change, and despite the inconvenience of having to stay only one night before moving to another location, the resolution offered by the campground was deemed unsatisfactory. The alternative site was described as grassy and covered in goose droppings, and the promised setup of deluxe site amenities in this unsuitable location never materialized, nor did a follow-up from the staff to rectify the situation. Furthermore, this reviewer reported difficulty in contacting the campground by phone.
Another reviewer shared a similarly frustrating experience with the booking process, noting that it took multiple phone calls over several days to finally reach someone to make a reservation. While they found the staff to be friendly and seemingly trying their best, there were significant issues upon arrival. Despite booking two sites together over the phone to ensure proximity, the initial assignment placed the sites a couple of rows apart. This was somewhat acceptable to the group, but upon reaching their assigned site, they discovered it was already occupied by other campers. Resolving this issue required a lengthy process at the camp store, involving at least four staff members and a phone call to an off-site manager. Ultimately, to secure sites in the desired area, the reviewer had to downgrade one of their sites.
Beyond the reservation and site assignment problems, reviewers also noted issues with the campground's amenities. One guest mentioned that "a lot of the amenities had their own issues," specifically pointing out that some of the playground equipment was in need of maintenance. This could be a significant drawback for families with young children who rely on playground facilities for recreation during their camping trip. The lack of upkeep on amenities suggests a potential oversight in maintaining the overall quality of the campground.
Another amenity-related disappointment was the limited availability of golf carts. One reviewer mentioned that the campground only had a few golf carts, and they were all booked for the weekend. This lack of transportation options could be inconvenient, as the same reviewer noted that "most of the amenities are all the way up by the main entrance." The inability to easily access these amenities, especially for those with mobility issues or families with young children, could detract from the overall camping experience.
Despite these criticisms, one reviewer did acknowledge the friendliness of the staff, stating that they seemed to be doing the best they could, possibly lacking the necessary resources or support to improve the campground's operations. This suggests that while the intentions of the on-site team might be good, there are underlying systemic issues affecting the guest experience.
In terms of the environment, the reviews do not provide extensive details about the natural setting of the Sunbury / Columbus North KOA Holiday. The mention of playground equipment suggests an area geared towards family activities. The presence of a "deluxe site" implies that some campsites might offer enhanced features, although the specifics of these features were not successfully delivered in one instance. The fact that amenities are located near the main entrance suggests a potentially spread-out layout of the campground.
As a KOA Holiday campground, it is likely to offer a range of services typically associated with the brand, such as RV sites with hookups, tent sites, and possibly cabin rentals. Other common KOA amenities might include restrooms, showers, laundry facilities (which one reviewer noted as working well), a camp store, and recreational areas. However, the reported issues with playground maintenance and golf cart availability indicate that the quality and accessibility of these amenities might not always meet expectations.
There is no promotional information provided in the reviews. However, the KOA brand itself often implies certain standards and offerings that might attract local campers. The "Holiday" designation within the KOA branding typically suggests a focus on family-friendly amenities and activities. However, the recent reviews indicate that the delivery on this promise might be inconsistent at this particular location.
For local users considering the Sunbury / Columbus North KOA Holiday for their "camping near me" needs, it is crucial to weigh the potential benefits of the KOA brand and the likely family-oriented amenities against the reported issues with reservations, site management, and amenity maintenance. The friendly staff is a positive aspect, but the systemic problems seem to be impacting the overall guest experience. It would be highly advisable for prospective campers to contact the campground directly to inquire about the current status of their reservation system, the availability and condition of amenities, and any steps being taken to address the issues raised in recent reviews. Reading more recent reviews from various platforms might also provide a more up-to-date picture of the campground's current state. Local users might want to consider these factors carefully before making a booking to ensure their "camping near me" experience meets their expectations.

Sunbury / Columbus North KOA Holiday Reviews
I was on my way for the 3rd year in a row and received a phone call that I had to pick a different site because they gave mine away. Normally not a big deal but we paid a little extra to pick a deluxe site . We stayed 1 night out of 11 luckily the event we were at had a spot left . They wanted to bring over all the things that go with a deluxe site and set it up in the grass that was all goose turds . They said they would stop by after we set up to see how they could make things right and they never did. And trying to call them on the phone is impossible.
Mar 21, 2025 · Jon FrasierI honestly feel bad leaving a "not so great" review. I really wanted to like this campground and it has great potential. Prior to booking I tried calling multiple times over multiple days before finally getting someone to answer the phone. The staff there is very friendly and is clearly trying their best. I booked two sites together and I did it over the phone and not online so I could be sure they were close together. Upon arrival we were given our site a couple rows away from the other site but we were ok with that. We drove all the way back to the site to find someone else already in it. I had to drive back to the camp store to try to sort it out and it took at least 30 minutes and 4 staff members to finally get me a site in the area near our other site but we had to downgrade our site to do it. The one staff member had to call some manager who was off-site to try to resolve the issue. After finally getting settled in the camp site was nice however a lot of the amenities had their own issues. Some of the playground equipment was definitely in need of some maintenance.I was also disappointed in the fact that the campground only had a few golf carts and they were all booked for the weekend. Would have been helpful since most of the amenities are all the way up by the main entrance.I really feel like the staff is doing the best job they can but maybe they just don't have all the tools they need to make this campground better.I will probably watch reviews for this campground in the future before I decide if I would stay again.
Oct 23, 2024 · Jason LewisStayed on the premium pull thru sites in October next to the soybean field and it was beautiful. Wide open sky for great satellite exposure. Site was great. Only issue was the bugs! Every time we opened the door a dozen flies swarmed in. Rescue farm animals in a petting pen, with a field for the horses and donkeys.
Oct 14, 2024 · Glenn SeveranceThis is our first visit at this campground. The one thing that I really hate is that NO ONE follows the speed limit including the staff in golf carts and cars. The roads are very narrow and stone. The risk of hitting someone with a car is very high due to others lack of respect for being in a campground full of kids. The staff is friendly but some of the amenities do not work or were not overly clean. The splash pad does not work and was still shown on their web page as an amenity. The one bath house I enter was very dark and not clean. You could not even see the urinals during the day. That’s how dark it was.The rail swing could use a good lube job. Half way down the first hill it sticks sending the swing way up then breaks loose only to make it half way around the loop. Amazed a kid has not been thrown from that.
Aug 24, 2024 · Alan WolfordIn the last two years this place has really gone down. We rented a golf cart but had to bring it back every night at 9 pm and couldn’t get it back until 9 am. We also had to walk a mile to return it and get it. The splash pad at the pool does not work. The zip line is broken. The showers in the shower house only has cold water. We are in the wooded area and the sewer smells so bad. Has a lot of potential to be a very nice place. Just needs updates.
