The Cardinal Center Introduce
Welcome to The Cardinal Center, a distinctive destination located at 616 State Rte 61, Marengo, OH 43334, USA. For local residents and visitors in Morrow County and the surrounding areas searching for "camping near me" with a blend of recreational activities, The Cardinal Center offers a unique experience. Based on customer reviews, this center is not just a campground but also a hub for shooting sports, complemented by amenities like a fishing pond, a swimming pool, and convenient services, making it an exceptional choice for a weekend getaway or longer stay.
Environment: A Recreational Oasis with Diverse Features
The environment of The Cardinal Center appears to be multifaceted, catering to both outdoor enthusiasts and those interested in shooting sports. A key feature is the presence of a "pond" that is available for fishing, providing a relaxing aquatic environment for anglers. Additionally, a "pool" is mentioned as being "nice and clean," suggesting a well-maintained area for swimming and leisure, particularly appealing during warmer months.
While the primary focus might be on the shooting facilities (implied by the name and a reviewer's comment about it being a favorite place to shoot), the inclusion of camping alongside these amenities creates a unique recreational environment. The grounds are described as being well-serviced by the camp office, indicating attention to the comfort and needs of campers. The availability of "big rig area" suggests that the campground can accommodate larger recreational vehicles, making it accessible to a wide range of campers.
The mention of a nearby restaurant with live music and decent food adds another dimension to the environment, providing an off-site option for dining and entertainment within easy reach for campers. The availability of "golf cart rental" further suggests a spacious area that is easy to navigate, enhancing the overall experience of moving around the facilities and campground.
Services and Amenities: Catering to Shooters and Campers Alike
The Cardinal Center offers a range of services and amenities designed to cater to both its shooting sports visitors and its camping guests. For campers, the availability of a "camp office" with "great service" indicates a point of contact for assistance, check-in, and information. The presence of a designated "big rig area" highlights the campground's ability to accommodate large RVs, which often require more spacious sites.
While specific details about hookups at the campsites are not fully provided, the review mentioning "no water at the site in the winter" but "water is available on site to fill your tank" suggests that at least some sites offer electric hookups (implied by overnighting in a big rig) but may have seasonal limitations on water connections. It's advisable to inquire directly about the availability of electric, water, and sewer hookups for different campsites and the services available during different times of the year.
The "golf cart rental" service is a significant amenity, offering an "easy and affordable" way for guests to navigate the potentially large grounds of The Cardinal Center. This would be particularly beneficial for campers wanting to access different parts of the facility, such as the shooting ranges, the pond, or the pool, without having to drive their vehicles.
The "well stocked camp store" mentioned in one review is another valuable amenity, providing campers with a convenient place to purchase supplies, snacks, and other necessities. While not explicitly stated, it is reasonable to assume that basic campground amenities such as restrooms and showers are also available for camping guests.
Features and Activities: More Than Just a Campground
The Cardinal Center's standout feature is its integration of camping with other recreational activities, primarily shooting sports. While details about the shooting ranges are not provided in the reviews, the mention of it being a "favorite place to shoot" indicates that it is a significant draw for many visitors. This makes The Cardinal Center a unique destination for those who enjoy both camping and shooting.
Beyond shooting, the availability of a "pond" for fishing offers a more relaxed outdoor activity. Campers can enjoy spending time by the water, trying their luck at catching fish. The "nice and clean" swimming "pool" provides another recreational option, perfect for cooling off and enjoying some leisure time, especially for families or individuals looking for a break from other activities.
The proximity to a restaurant with live music adds a social and entertainment aspect to a stay at The Cardinal Center. Campers can easily access this nearby venue for meals and evening entertainment, enhancing their overall experience.
The combination of shooting sports facilities, fishing pond, swimming pool, and the convenience of golf cart rentals creates a multi-faceted destination that caters to a variety of interests, making it more than just a traditional campground.
Promotional Information: Check for Seasonal Offers and Events
The provided reviews do not contain specific promotional information for The Cardinal Center. However, it is common for such facilities to offer seasonal rates, packages that combine camping with access to the shooting ranges or other amenities, or discounts for extended stays. Given the mention of a nearby restaurant with live music, The Cardinal Center might also host or be associated with special events or entertainment on certain weekends or holidays.
For local users interested in camping at The Cardinal Center, it would be beneficial to contact them directly to inquire about any current promotions, seasonal rates, or packages that might be available. Asking about discounts for local residents or members of shooting sports organizations could also yield potential savings.
The fact that the office staff were "SUPER friendly on the phone to make reservation" suggests that they are helpful and willing to provide information about pricing and any special offers. Checking their website (if available) or following their social media channels might also provide updates on events or promotions.

The Cardinal Center Reviews
The Cardinal Center is my absolute favorite place to shoot and camp. The pond is cool for fishing and the pool is nice and clean. The people there are super nice and the service is great at the camp office. There’s also a restaurant nearby that usually has live music and pretty decent food. The golf cart rental is super easy and affordable and that makes it very helpful to get around. it is such an awesome place to go to and I highly recommend checking it out for a weekend.
Mar 06, 2025 · Nelson NavarroOvernighting during a March mid-week night, we had the run of the park. We were the only ones in the big rig area. Office staff were SUPER friendly on the phone to make reservation (and when I called enroute to say we would arrive after hours). No water at the site in the winter (we knew that in advance). Water is available on site to fill your tank.
Mar 14, 2025 · Bob C.The trap houses throw White Flyer targets which are the best. I try to shoot 4 events during the summer. The participants are very friendly and makes this a great place to shoot. Lots of vendors to buy guns, trap shells and accessories.
Feb 09, 2025 · Dave223We visited this campground for my family's annual Mother/Daughter Camp Out. We usually book at Alum Creek, but they were sold out, so we tried this location for RV full hookup. We were able to pick a site directly along the road that runs parallel to I-71. There were a row of trees that blocked the view. This site gave us more room and the privacy that we wanted for our RV and 2 tents. Further down the row, there really isn't much privacy between RV hookups. At Alum Creek, each site is in an alcove, so it feels like your own space. We could hear the busy highway traffic, which was louder during the day than at night. After a while It became white noise, so it wasn't too bad. If you need to run to the store for anything, there is a Dollar General a few miles up the road. This DG had fresh produce! I was impressed. I've not seen this in our Columbus DG locations, but it makes sense since there are no larger grocery stores in that immediate area. All in all, we would revisit this location. The grounds were well kept, and we felt safe.
Sep 21, 2024 · Michelle JenkinsCamped at this camp ground for 2 nights. Said they had public WIFI, we tried to connect but it never worked. They have 2 towers, but it didn't work. They have an indoor pool for campers, but it was so ungodly hot in the building, no one could swim in there. They have had numerous complaints of both issues, yet they don't want to fix the issues. Camp sites are super small unless you get a deluxe camp site.. We were lucky enough there were cancellations, so we got a deluxe site for the same cost. Tons of campsites, all are gravel some with grass. Lots of walking areas. Didn't use the facilities. Not a great camp ground, Average at most. Wouldn't recommend. We won't be back.
