Amicalola Falls Campground Introduce
For local users searching for an immersive "camping near me" experience surrounded by natural beauty, Amicalola Falls Campground, situated at 418 Amicalola Falls Lodge Rd, Dawsonville, GA 30534, USA, offers an exceptional opportunity. Nestled within Amicalola Falls State Park, this campground provides a gateway to breathtaking waterfalls, scenic hiking trails, and the tranquility of the North Georgia mountains.
The environment of Amicalola Falls Campground is undeniably its most significant draw. Located within a state park renowned for its namesake, Amicalola Falls – the tallest cascading waterfall in Georgia – campers are immediately immersed in a picturesque mountain setting. The reviews highlight the experience of being "within nature" and the ability to "sit and be" amidst the beauty of the mountains. The campground's location within the park affords easy access to the falls and numerous hiking trails without the need for extensive travel outside the camping area. One reviewer specifically appreciated being able to see the Falls and hike without going far, emphasizing the convenience of the location for nature enthusiasts.
It's important to note, as mentioned in a review, that the road leading to the campground is "very steep," so campers should be prepared for this ascent, particularly those with larger campers or trailers. However, this elevation gain likely contributes to the stunning views and the overall sense of being nestled in the mountains. At night, the area becomes "pitch black," which underscores the natural and relatively undeveloped character of the campground, offering an excellent opportunity for stargazing away from city lights.
In terms of services, Amicalola Falls Campground appears to offer convenient amenities to enhance the camping experience. A significant feature mentioned is the presence of a "laundry room" that is reported to be "very convenient" and "pretty clean." This is a valuable amenity, especially for longer stays or for hikers who may need to freshen up their clothing. Campers are advised to "make sure to take enough food" as restaurants are located "pretty far away from the campground," indicating a degree of seclusion that adds to the natural ambiance but requires self-sufficiency in terms of meals.
The host at Amicalola Falls Campground provides firewood for purchase, which is a convenient service for campers wanting to enjoy campfires (subject to park regulations and burn bans). For families with young children, the playground located by the visitors center is a notable feature, offering a recreational space for toddlers. The presence of a helpful Camp Host, Fallon, as mentioned in a review, further enhances the services offered. Fallon provided "great suggestions to seeing all the park had to offer," indicating a level of personalized assistance and local knowledge available to guests.
The features of Amicalola Falls Campground contribute to a comfortable and enjoyable stay within a natural setting. The campsites are described as "very spacious and private from the rest," which is highly desirable for campers seeking a sense of seclusion and their own personal space in nature. The proximity to Amicalola Falls and the extensive network of hiking trails within the state park is a primary feature, offering opportunities for exploration and outdoor adventure. The views from the falls are described as "worth every step from the bottom," highlighting the rewarding experience of hiking and witnessing the natural beauty of the area.
While no specific promotional information such as discounts or special packages is explicitly mentioned in the provided reviews, the inherent appeal of camping within Amicalola Falls State Park, with its stunning natural attractions and well-maintained facilities, serves as a strong draw for local users seeking a "camping near me" getaway. The positive reviews themselves act as a form of promotion, with one camper stating they "would stay here again without a question" and another expressing a desire to return, noting that "3 days just wasn't enough to see all the beauty the park has to offer." The impeccable maintenance and cleanliness of the campground and the park, as highlighted in a review ("everything was spotless"), further enhance its appeal.
It is worth noting that while wildlife was not encountered by one reviewer, "there were signs everywhere to be aware," indicating that the area is home to various forms of wildlife, as is typical in a mountainous region. Campers should take necessary precautions for food storage and be aware of their surroundings to ensure safe interactions with any wildlife they may encounter.
For local users considering Amicalola Falls Campground for their next "camping near me" adventure, the combination of breathtaking natural scenery, access to hiking trails and the iconic Amicalola Falls, and the availability of convenient amenities like a laundry room and firewood for purchase make it a compelling destination. The spacious and private campsites contribute to a relaxing and immersive outdoor experience. While the steep road to the campground requires consideration, the overall positive feedback regarding the beauty of the park, the helpfulness of the staff, and the well-maintained facilities suggests a highly enjoyable camping experience.
In conclusion, Amicalola Falls Campground offers local users an exceptional "camping near me" opportunity within the stunning Amicalola Falls State Park. Its environment is characterized by mountainous terrain, easy access to the magnificent Amicalola Falls, and numerous hiking trails. The services include a convenient and clean laundry room, firewood for purchase, and access to a playground at the visitors center. The spacious and private campsites, combined with the overall cleanliness and maintenance of the park, make for a highly desirable camping destination. While specific promotions are not mentioned, the natural beauty and positive experiences reported by other campers serve as a strong endorsement for a memorable outdoor getaway.

Amicalola Falls Campground Reviews
You, your camper and the mountains…. Great place just to sit and be within nature. The campground is very steep to get to so be prepared. I love that we were within the park so we were able to see the Falls and hike without having to go far. It gets pitch black at night. There is a laundry room that’s very convenient for anyone who needs it, they are pretty clean. Make sure to take enough food as any restaurants are pretty far away from the campground. The host has firewood available for purchase. The playground by the visitors center was nice for our toddler. The views from the falls are worth every step from the bottom. Campsites are very spacious and private from the rest. I’d stay here again without a question. We didn’t see or encounter any wildlife while we were here but there were signs everywhere to be aware.
Jan 05, 2025 · Stephanie&William SansWe recently stayed Amicalola Falls Campground, it was such a wonderful experience. Our Camp Host Fallon, was incredibly helpful. She offered so many great suggestions to seeing all the park had to offer. We were blown away with the beauty of the park and all the amenities it offered. It was impeccably maintained, everything was spotless at the campground and throughout the park. We definitely will be coming back, 3 days just wasn't enough to see all the beauty the park has to offer.
Aug 23, 2024 · Michele DotyWow wow, this camp ground is so well kept. Very quite, clean and plenty of space between each site. They offer glamping tents as well. The bathrooms and showers areas were very clean. It's pricier than normal state park camping sites but, every spot has water and electric, grill, fire pit. Will definitely visit again.
Aug 30, 2024 · Jessie MThis place was amazing! We only came for a day and stayed at the campground but we'll definitely need to come back. The falls are absolutely gorgeous and there's a 400+ step staircase to get to the top. The view from the top is totally worth it though! Once you get there, you'll have access to all the trail entrances. The lodge hotel is beautiful and the food is really good. I was honestly surprised they had good prices too! The campsite was maintained so well and they have everything from glamping tents to full hookup sites to cabins. They also spend time planning activities for the people staying in the area. The night we stayed they had a campfire with the local tribes where you learn about their culture. You can really tell they put so much love in running this place. It was an absolutely amazing time, we'll definitely be back to enjoy all the activities and amenities they offer.
Sep 12, 2023 · Irene BishopWe recently stayed at the Amicalola Falls Campground. After checking in at the lodge we ventured up the mountain to the campgrounds (in low gear). It was quite a climb but once we reached the top it was great. The campgrounds are somewhat open but private enough. The sites were spacious, clean, level (gravel). We had good clean 30 Amp electric power, water, a picnic table, grill, lantern post and fire ring all in a raised fenced in area. We heard there was quite a bit of bear activity in the area but did not see any during our stay. The campground also had newer restroom facility with private showers, a shelter house and a small playground. There were plenty of bear proof trash containers as well. We had a great stay and highly recommend.
