Based on reviews from fellow campers, this campground provides a unique and somewhat adventurous outdoor experience, characterized by its secluded setting, creek access, and spacious campsites.
Embrace the Secluded and Natural Environment
Customer reviews consistently describe Jones Creek Campground as "beautiful" and "very secluded from business and residential areas." This highlights its appeal for those seeking a more immersive and tranquil natural environment for their "camping near me" getaway. The presence of multiple campsites, including several large group sites located directly on the creek, suggests a variety of options for different camping needs, from individual tents to larger gatherings. The drive into the campground is also noted for its beauty, although caution is advised due to the absence of guard rails and the presence of motorcyclists and bicycles on the road.
A significant environmental feature is the presence of Jones Creek itself, with campers needing to navigate up to three creek crossings to access the campsites. The creek is described as having swift-moving water that is deep in some places and has slippery rocks, necessitating caution. The lack of abundant wood around the campsites is also mentioned, suggesting that campers may need to bring their own firewood. The overall environment is one of natural, somewhat rugged beauty, appealing to those who prefer a more wilderness-oriented "camping near me" experience.
Understanding the Services and Accessibility
Based on the reviews, Jones Creek Campground offers a more primitive camping experience with limited services. Key points regarding accessibility and services include:
- Recommended Vehicle: Four-wheel drive (4WD) or all-wheel drive (AWD) is strongly recommended, especially after rain or ice, and is required to reach a couple of specific sites.
- Cell Service: There is generally no cell service at the campsites themselves, but service can be obtained at the top of the hill by the guard rail.
- Creek Access: Multiple large group sites and some smaller ones are located on the creek, offering direct access. Be aware of the swift and deep water, as well as slippery rocks.
- Limited Firewood: Not much wood is available around the campsites, so campers should plan accordingly.
Despite the limited services, the spaciousness of the campsites is a noted positive, with one reviewer mentioning having plenty of room for two tents, a car, a fire, hammocks, and cooking. The quiet atmosphere of the campground is also appreciated. For local users seeking "camping near me" that prioritizes a natural and secluded setting over extensive amenities, Jones Creek Campground presents an interesting option, provided they are prepared for the access and service limitations.

Jones Creek Campground Reviews
Beautiful, multiple campsites, very secluded from business and residential areas. 4 wheel drive or all wheel drive recommended especially after rain or ice. Multiple large group sites located on creek and a couple of smaller ones. 4 wheel drive required to reach a couple of sites. Moderate traffic. Beautiful view driving in, be cautious while driving, no guard rails and many motorcycless and bicycles. Hard to get a campsite on the weekends and even weeknights during summer. Be prepared for 3 creek crossings. No service at campsites but you can get service at top of hill by guard rail. Not much wood around campsites. Be careful. Swift moving water. DEEP in some places, slippery rocks. And be cautious of snakes. Go slow driving in, there are a couple unexpected large potholes and bumps.
Apr 25, 2023 · Sophie ConniffWe had an awesome time even though we got rained on most of the time. The place was quiet and the sites were spacious. We had two tents and a car and had plenty of room for fire, hammocks and cooking. One scare was due to the wet conditions we had one huge widow maker fall just a few feet from where my son stood. Too close for comfort. Always look up when setting up camp!
Jan 03, 2025 · ann lawsonYou will need at least, all wheel drive to get here & some ground clearance will help too.But if you make it, it is absolutely beautiful primitive camping
Mar 17, 2024 · Jason DolensekVery rustic, and perfect location to the Bull and Jake mountain mtb trails, also Springer Mountain. Creek is clean and provides excellent water for filtering. Kudos to the Forest Service for giving us this pristine camp!
Nov 22, 2023 · Matthew YostOne of my favorite campgrounds to go to. It’s not hard to get here. I’ve seen a Prius back here but I wouldn’t take a car with low clearance. You’ll be more comfortable in a 4 x 4. there’s about 12 to 15 campsites that you can find and most of them are next to a stream. Most of them are very well spaced apart from other campsites, but a few are next to each other. Definitely try this place out. In the warmer months it’s pretty much full on the weekends…. I’ve also been back here just for day hiking and mountain biking. You can also ride horses back here.
