Etowah River Campground Introduce
Are you searching for "camping near me" in the Dahlonega, Georgia area? Etowah River Campground, located at 229 Etowah River Campground Rd, Dahlonega, GA 30533, USA, is a camping facility that has received mixed feedback from recent visitors. You can contact them by phone at (706) 867-7528 or their mobile number, +1 706-867-7528.
Under the platform category "camping near me," Etowah River Campground's name suggests a location near the Etowah River, which could imply a natural environment with potential for river-related activities and scenic views. Dahlonega itself is situated in the North Georgia mountains, an area known for its natural beauty, so the setting of the campground is likely to be appealing to those seeking an outdoor experience.
However, the provided customer reviews present a somewhat concerning picture for those looking for a typical weekend RV camping experience. One reviewer gave the location only two stars, stating that it is "not the RV Campground for weekend camping" and that it is "mostly long term campers here with nearly every spot full." This suggests that availability for short-term campers, particularly those with RVs, might be limited due to a high number of long-term residents.
The second review is significantly more critical, detailing a negative experience following a change in ownership. This reviewer claims that the new management has "never maintained roads," that there are "dog droppings everywhere," and that campers were "accosted." Furthermore, they allege a lack of amenities, describing "spotty wifi and a bathhouse with no toilet paper." The reviewer also mentions the creation of a new online profile, purportedly to circumvent negative feedback from the previous management, and accuses the new owners of violating Google review policies by leaving themselves a five-star review on the old business page. The strong recommendation from this reviewer is to "go anywhere else."
Based on these reviews, the environment of Etowah River Campground likely includes its proximity to the Etowah River and the natural surroundings of Dahlonega. However, the upkeep of the grounds, particularly the roads and the cleanliness regarding pet waste, appears to be a significant issue according to one reviewer.
In terms of services and features, the information is also negative. The lack of road maintenance, the alleged absence of amenities (like reliable wifi and a properly stocked bathhouse), and the focus on long-term campers rather than weekend visitors paint a picture of potentially limited or subpar services for short-term stays. The mention of a bathhouse implies that such a facility exists, but its condition (no toilet paper) is a concern. The spotty wifi also suggests unreliable connectivity.
There is no promotional information provided in the reviews. Instead, the feedback leans heavily towards warnings about the current state and management of the campground.
Considering the "camping near me" category, local users looking for a weekend RV camping experience might find that Etowah River Campground, based on the reviews, is not ideally suited for their needs due to the prevalence of long-term campers and potential issues with maintenance and amenities. Those seeking a well-maintained campground with reliable facilities may also be dissuaded by the negative feedback regarding road conditions, cleanliness, and the bathhouse.
In conclusion, while Etowah River Campground benefits from its location near the Etowah River in the scenic area of Dahlonega, GA, recent reviews raise significant concerns about its suitability for weekend RV camping and the overall quality of its maintenance and management. Local users searching for "camping near me" should be aware of these issues. The campground seems to cater more to long-term stays, and potential short-term visitors should likely seek more current information or consider alternative campgrounds in the area given the negative experiences reported. We recommend that anyone considering Etowah River Campground look for additional, more recent reviews or contact the management directly to get an accurate understanding of the current conditions and services offered.
For local residents exploring "camping near me," the feedback on Etowah River Campground suggests caution. While its riverside location in Dahlonega might be appealing, the reported focus on long-term campers and the allegations of poor maintenance and inadequate amenities are serious considerations. If you are planning a short camping trip or require reliable facilities, it would be prudent to investigate further or explore other options in the Dahlonega area that might better meet your needs. The discrepancies highlighted in the reviews indicate a potential gap between the expected camping experience and the reality at this particular location.

Etowah River Campground Reviews
I gave this location only 2 stars because it is not the RV Campground for weekend camping. Mostly long term campers here with nearly every spot full.
Dec 03, 2024 · Brandon KrystofiakTook over ownership of the campground. Never maintained roads, dog droppings everywhere, accosted campers, offered no amenities (with spotty wifi and a bathhouse with no toilet paper), and then created a new profile after they took over the old business because they didn't like the old reviews. They even violated Google reviews policy by leaving themselves a 5 star reviews on the old Google Business Page. Long story short go anywhere else.
Apr 27, 2024 · NicoleSupposed new owners have somehow let this campground turn to ruin. The roads are horrible full of mud and potholes everywhere. The new owners are rude and hostile. There’s litter everywhere. Can’t believe they failed to do their job this badly. They charger way to much for there to be nothing to do and not much to do nearby. Alot of the sites arent even level. Won’t be recommending.
Apr 27, 2024 · jrzyxEI was very skeptical about staying at this campground because of the reviews. I want to say it could not be farther from the truth. The place is beautiful on the river. Cellphone service is zero but they do have Wi-Fi that helps a little. All the employees have been very welcoming and accommodating. When we first arrived they brought us a brand new fire ring and put stones around it. We travel full time for work. It is nice to have a place you can feel at home and enjoy instead of like a prison like some campgrounds.
Jun 01, 2023 · Haley MoonI would never recommend this campground to anyone! Do not stay here! Jennifer, the owner, is extremely rude as well as the campground host Tommy. There are rules that are not listed or made clear. The business is not ADA tolerant and made it very clear that neither of them cared and that someone with a disability was not welcome. I have Crohn’s Disease and have to use the restroom frequently. We left our home 4 hours away from Dahlonega in plenty of time to make check in time, but due to my Crohn’s I had to make multiple stops which caused us to run behind. We attempted to call the number given at 4:00 with a Verizon message saying the call could not be connected. We tried 10 other times to call with the same message. We finally found another number and left a message at 6:30 to give an ETA. A resident of the campground messaged us on Facebook with another number to call. We reached Tommy at 8:03 saying that we were 30 minutes away and the reason for running late. We were told by Tommy that we were past the check in time and could not check in that night and would have to wait until the next morning at 10 AM. He also was happy to tell us that we could stay the night in the local Walmart parking lot. In speaking to the FB friend, he informed us that he knew the owners and was sure if we went to the office and called the owner that she would understand and let us go ahead and park. Once arriving at the campground we called the number listed and was connected to Jennifer. We were told that we knew the rules, she knew nothing of the name we gave her of the FB friend, and we should have left earlier. I tried explaining to her the situation of my Crohn’s. Her exact words were “I don’t care or want to hear your long story” and “if you are not off my property in 5 minutes I will call the law”. She also stated that she was refunding the deposit and we were not allowed to stay at all. So, now we are 4 hours away from our home with no campground to stay in for the 4 day weekend. In my 42 years of camping, from being a child with my parents and now as an adult, I have never experienced anything like this. Again, do not waste your money.
