Basin Cr Dispersed Campground

Martinsdale, MT 59053, USA

3.0
The road is not the best, but also not the worst, at least not in the state. In a three-quarter ton truck with a camper it is a slow crawl in and out. There are a few campsites along the road, but there is barely any traffic. The only trail is 50” and goes for about five miles before it meets any other trails, but the rides were still fun. One day we rode up to Daisy Peak (Daisy Peak has beautiful views of a lot of the Little Belts), then down to Daisy Dean Campground then came back. The next day we rode the Haymaker Canyon Trail, when you come from the north, the first part is very very muddy, and would not be a fun time on a motorcycle, but we did not go all the way to the narrows simply because we’ve ridden through there a few times when camped at Haymaker Campground and it was getting late. All in all it was a fun trip, and some cows came to visit later in the trip.3 stars due to some spots not having great tree cover, and only one trail. - Aaron Larson

Basin Cr Dispersed Campground Introduce

For those searching for "camping near me" with a preference for a more rugged, off-the-beaten-path experience, Basin Cr Dispersed Campground near Martinsdale, MT 59053, USA, presents a unique opportunity. Unlike developed campgrounds with numerous amenities, dispersed camping offers a more primitive and self-sufficient way to enjoy the outdoors. Situated in a potentially remote area near Martinsdale, Basin Cr provides access to nature and some recreational activities, as highlighted in the available user reviews. However, it's crucial to understand the nature of dispersed camping and the specific conditions reported by visitors to determine if this location aligns with your camping preferences and capabilities.

The environment surrounding Basin Cr Dispersed Campground appears to be characterized by natural, undeveloped landscapes typical of Montana. One reviewer mentions scenic views from Daisy Peak, suggesting the campground's proximity to the Little Belt Mountains or a similar range. The presence of trails suitable for ATV riding indicates a terrain that may include varied elevations, wooded areas, and open spaces. The mention of cows visiting the area hints at a rural, possibly grazing land environment. However, another reviewer describes the area as "very ugly," highlighting the subjective nature of scenic beauty and potentially varying conditions within the dispersed camping area.

Dispersed campgrounds generally offer very limited to no services or amenities. Unlike developed campgrounds that typically include restrooms, potable water, trash disposal, and designated campsites, dispersed camping requires visitors to be entirely self-sufficient. This means bringing your own water, having a plan for waste disposal (pack it in, pack it out is essential), and understanding Leave No Trace principles. Based on the reviews, there is no mention of any services provided at Basin Cr Dispersed Campground, reinforcing its nature as a primitive camping area. Therefore, those seeking "camping near me" with expectations of developed facilities should likely look elsewhere.

The features of Basin Cr Dispersed Campground seem to revolve primarily around its natural setting and opportunities for specific recreational activities. One notable feature is the presence of a 50-inch wide trail that extends for approximately five miles before connecting to other trails. This suggests potential for hiking and, as indicated by the reviewer's experience, ATV riding. The journey to Daisy Peak, offering "beautiful views of a lot of the Little Belts," is another significant feature, indicating scenic destinations accessible from the campground. The Haymaker Canyon Trail is also mentioned, although one reviewer noted that the northern entrance can be "very very muddy," which might be a consideration for certain types of vehicles or activities, particularly motorcycles.

However, the reviews also point out some potential drawbacks. One reviewer gave a 3-star rating due to "some spots not having great tree cover" and the limited trail network (only one primary trail mentioned). Lack of tree cover can impact shade and privacy at campsites. The limited trail system might be a concern for those seeking extensive hiking or riding options directly from their campsite. The conflicting opinion about the area's beauty ("nature and beauty" vs. "very ugly") suggests that individual experiences and preferences can vary significantly, and perhaps the conditions or specific locations within the dispersed area differ.

The road leading to Basin Cr Dispersed Campground is a significant factor mentioned in both reviews. One reviewer described it as "not the best, but also not the worst," noting that it required a "slow crawl in and out" with a three-quarter ton truck and camper. This implies that the road might be unpaved, rough, or have challenging sections. The second reviewer went further, calling the road "horrible." This strongly suggests that accessing the campground may require a vehicle with good clearance and four-wheel drive might be beneficial, especially for larger vehicles or those towing trailers. Potential campers should be prepared for a slow and possibly difficult drive to reach the camping area.

There is no promotional information available for Basin Cr Dispersed Campground. Dispersed camping on public lands is often free of charge, but it's essential to check with the relevant land management agency (likely the US Forest Service or Bureau of Land Management in this area) for any regulations, restrictions, or permit requirements. These agencies may also provide information on current road conditions and any temporary closures. It is always the camper's responsibility to be aware of and comply with all regulations for dispersed camping.

For those considering Basin Cr Dispersed Campground based on their search for "camping near me," it is crucial to weigh the potential benefits of a remote, natural experience against the challenges highlighted in the reviews. If you are equipped for self-sufficient camping, have a suitable vehicle for potentially rough roads, and are looking for opportunities for ATV riding or hiking to scenic viewpoints like Daisy Peak, this dispersed campground might be of interest. However, be prepared for limited trail options, potentially exposed campsites, and a possibly challenging access road. The starkly contrasting opinions on the area's beauty also suggest that expectations should be managed.

Before planning a trip to Basin Cr Dispersed Campground, it is strongly recommended to: 1. Research the specific regulations and guidelines for dispersed camping in the area managed by the relevant land management agency. 2. Inquire about current road conditions, especially if traveling with a larger vehicle or trailer. Local ranger stations or online resources from the managing agency can be helpful. 3. Be fully prepared for primitive camping with all necessary gear, including water purification, waste disposal bags, navigation tools, and emergency supplies. 4. Understand and practice Leave No Trace principles to minimize your impact on the environment. By taking these precautions and considering the firsthand accounts from other campers, you can make an informed decision about whether Basin Cr Dispersed Campground is the right "camping near me" destination for your next outdoor adventure.
