Grasshopper Campground Introduce
For local adventurers in Montana seeking a tranquil "camping near me" experience, Grasshopper Campground, located near White Sulphur Springs, MT 59645, USA, offers a promising retreat. This campground has garnered positive reviews from visitors who appreciate its spacious sites, the soothing presence of a creek, and the attentive care provided by the long-serving camp host. If you're looking for an affordable and peaceful escape into nature, Grasshopper Campground is worth considering.
One of the standout features of Grasshopper Campground, as highlighted by multiple reviewers, is the generous spacing between most campsites. This provides campers with a greater sense of privacy and allows for a more secluded and relaxing experience. Unlike some campgrounds where sites can feel cramped, Grasshopper Campground offers a welcome sense of personal space, enhancing the overall enjoyment of your time in nature. This feature is particularly appealing to those seeking a quieter and more intimate camping experience away from the bustle of crowded areas.
Adding to the charm of the campground is the creek that meanders behind many of the campsites. The presence of a flowing creek not only contributes to the aesthetic beauty of the surroundings but also provides a calming natural soundtrack for your stay. Imagine unwinding by the gentle sounds of the water, perhaps even enjoying the opportunity for some light wading or simply appreciating the natural wildlife that might be drawn to the creek. This natural feature significantly elevates the camping experience at Grasshopper Campground, offering a refreshing and picturesque backdrop.
The positive reviews consistently mention Al, the camp host, who has been a fixture at Grasshopper Campground for approximately eight years. A dedicated and experienced camp host can greatly enhance the camping experience, providing valuable assistance, ensuring the smooth operation of the campground, and fostering a welcoming atmosphere. Al's long tenure suggests a commitment to the campground and a familiarity with the needs of campers, making him a valuable resource during your stay. His presence contributes to the overall positive impression visitors have of Grasshopper Campground.
In terms of facilities, Grasshopper Campground offers vault toilets, which are a common amenity in more rustic or remote camping locations. However, what sets Grasshopper Campground apart is the reported cleanliness and maintenance of these facilities. One reviewer specifically noted that the vault toilets were "better taken care of than many others I've encountered in Montana," which is a significant compliment and speaks to the care and attention given to the campground's upkeep. Clean and well-maintained restrooms are essential for a comfortable camping experience, and this positive feedback indicates that Grasshopper Campground prioritizes this aspect.
Accessibility to the campground is also a noteworthy point. According to a review, the road leading from the highway to the campground, a distance of about four miles, is generally in good condition. While there are a few potholes within the campground loop itself, these are reported to be easily navigable by driving slowly. This ease of access is a significant advantage, especially for those towing trailers or driving vehicles with lower clearance. Knowing that the journey to the campground is relatively smooth contributes to a less stressful arrival and departure.
One potential drawback mentioned by a reviewer is the presence of bugs. Depending on the time of year and weather conditions, insects can be a common nuisance in outdoor environments, particularly near water sources like the creek. While this is described as the "only downfall to this paradise," it's important for potential campers to be prepared with insect repellent and appropriate clothing to mitigate any discomfort. The reviewer's description of the campground as "paradise" despite the bugs speaks volumes about the overall positive experience it offers.
The affordability of Grasshopper Campground is another significant advantage, with one reviewer mentioning a cost of just $15 per night to camp. This makes it an exceptionally budget-friendly option for those looking to enjoy the outdoors without breaking the bank. In a time when camping fees can often be substantial, Grasshopper Campground offers excellent value for money, especially considering the spacious sites, the presence of the creek, and the positive feedback regarding the host and facilities.
While specific promotional information isn't provided in the reviews, the combination of affordability, scenic beauty, spacious sites, a welcoming host, and relatively well-maintained facilities serves as a strong implicit endorsement for Grasshopper Campground. For local users searching within the "camping near me" category, this campground offers a compelling blend of natural charm and practical amenities at a very reasonable price point.
To obtain the most current information regarding availability, specific campsite details, potential regulations, or any seasonal considerations (especially concerning the bug situation), it is advisable to directly contact the relevant authorities or the White Sulphur Springs area recreation resources. While a direct phone number isn't provided in the initial information, a quick online search for "Grasshopper Campground White Sulphur Springs MT" should yield contact details or reservation information if available. In conclusion, Grasshopper Campground near White Sulphur Springs, Montana, stands out as an affordable and appealing option for local campers. Its spacious and often private campsites, the beautiful creek running through the area, the well-regarded camp host Al, and the surprisingly well-maintained vault toilets all contribute to a positive camping experience. While bugs may be a consideration, the overall sentiment from visitors suggests that the natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere of Grasshopper Campground make it a worthwhile destination for your next Montana camping adventure.

Grasshopper Campground Reviews
15$ a night to campMost of the sites have a good amount of space between them. They have a creek that runs behind many of the sites that is beautiful. Al, the camp host is a great host that has been there going on 8 years. Vault toilets that were better taken care of then many others I've encountered in Montana. Bugs are the only downfall to this paradise.
Jul 13, 2023 · AnthonyGreat spot to camp with a creek and several private spots within the campground. The road is good all the way from the highway which is 4 miles. A few pot holes within the campground loop but no problem if you go slow.
Aug 02, 2021 · Tom DetonancourGreat campground only 11 miles from the town of White Sulphur Springs Montana! The campground is right next to Grasshopper Creek, which can be heard throughout the entire campground. 13 Campsites, bathrooms, water.
Jul 04, 2018 · Into the Little BeltsCamped there summer 2020. Road to and inside campground very rough with huge potholes and wallows. Wasn't as bad on an earlier visit. Campground fine, toilet acceptable (use higher than expected with day trippers).
Dec 21, 2020 · happy wandererThe sites were great. Plenty of room in between each one. But the restrooms were pretty gross. To be honest, whenever someone gets out there to clean and restock, they really need to take a power washer to the toilets.
