Skidway Campground, located off US-12 in Melstone, MT 59054, USA, offers a unique camping environment with notable features such as a nearby creek, beautiful mountain views, and an affordable price point. While one reviewer initially described it as a roadside picnic area, the subsequent feedback highlights its qualities as a more traditional campground with appealing natural surroundings.
One of the standout features of Skidway Campground is its picturesque setting. Situated "far back and up the mountain," the campground offers elevated views that are described as "beautiful." This suggests that campers can expect to enjoy panoramic vistas of the surrounding mountainous landscape, providing a stunning backdrop for their outdoor adventure. The effort to reach this elevated location, via a road that is reported to be in reasonably good condition with "just a few potholes," seems to be rewarded by the scenic rewards at the campground itself.

The presence of water can also attract wildlife and adds a soothing element to the overall camping experience. Furthermore, the reviewer who initially thought it was a picnic area mentioned observing and photographing wildlife, suggesting that the area is rich in natural inhabitants.
The natural beauty of the area extends beyond the creek and mountain views. Additionally, a "potable water pump" is on-site, providing a crucial resource for drinking water. While one reviewer noted that weeds had grown up around the pump, they also mentioned that it was still easily accessible, indicating a minor inconvenience that did not significantly detract from the functionality of the water source.
One of the practical advantages of Skidway Campground is its affordability. A reviewer explicitly stated, "Price is right for the site," suggesting that it offers a budget-friendly option for those seeking "camping near me" without compromising on natural beauty and a peaceful environment. This can be a significant factor for families, solo travelers, or anyone looking for a cost-effective outdoor getaway.

Jul 24, 2022 · DylanIt’s all but abandoned. There’s no sign of any maintenance. Nature is doing a great job of taking it back. Roads are full of pot holes and at some areas trenches.
