Beartooth Lake Campground Introduce
For local adventurers in the Cody, Wyoming region searching for the perfect "camping near me" experience, Beartooth Lake Campground emerges as an exceptional destination renowned for its stunning natural beauty and tranquil atmosphere. Situated directly along the scenic US-212, also known as the Beartooth Highway, this campground offers an unparalleled opportunity to immerse oneself in the majestic landscapes of Wyoming's high country. The provided phone number, (307) 527-6921 (also accessible as +1 307-527-6921), suggests a direct point of contact for local inquiries regarding availability and other essential information.
The environment surrounding Beartooth Lake Campground is nothing short of spectacular. As its name suggests, the campground is nestled along the shores of Beartooth Lake, a body of water described by one enthusiastic camper as "more beautiful than previously thought possible." The lake itself is a prominent feature, offering picturesque views and a sense of serenity. While one reviewer noted the lake's frigid temperature, this did not detract from its allure, highlighting its pristine and natural state. The presence of trails around the lake invites exploration and provides opportunities for scenic walks and potentially more challenging hikes into the surrounding terrain. The early morning experience of witnessing steam rising off the lake's surface, coupled with the sounds of elk calling from across the shores, paints a vivid picture of the rich natural tapestry that defines this location. The campground's setting along the Beartooth Highway also places it within easy reach of other breathtaking vistas and high-altitude landscapes that this iconic drive is famous for.
Based on the available reviews, specific details regarding formal services and amenities are somewhat limited, suggesting a more nature-focused camping experience. One reviewer mentioned securing a spot on the "smaller and less-utilized C loop," indicating the presence of different camping loops within the campground. The fact that this loop was described as less utilized might appeal to those seeking a quieter and more secluded camping experience. The absence of any mention of hookups (water, electricity, sewer) in the reviews suggests that Beartooth Lake Campground likely caters more to tent campers and those with self-contained RVs who are comfortable with dry camping. Campers should anticipate the need to bring their own water and power sources. While not explicitly stated, it is reasonable to expect basic amenities such as vault toilets and possibly picnic tables and fire rings at individual campsites, which are common in campgrounds located within national forest or similar natural areas. Given the emphasis on the natural environment, it is crucial for visitors to adhere to Leave No Trace principles, ensuring they pack out all trash and minimize their impact on the delicate ecosystem.
The standout features of Beartooth Lake Campground are undeniably its stunning natural environment and the opportunities it affords for experiencing the beauty of the Beartooth Highway region. The immediate access to Beartooth Lake is a significant draw, offering not only scenic views but also potential for activities such as fishing (though not explicitly mentioned, mountain lakes in this region often support trout populations) and leisurely lakeside strolls. The presence of trails suggests opportunities for hiking and exploring the surrounding wilderness, allowing campers to further immerse themselves in the landscape. One particularly noteworthy feature highlighted by a reviewer is the "dark sky qualities" of the area. Situated at a high elevation and away from significant urban light pollution, Beartooth Lake Campground offers an exceptional setting for stargazing, allowing campers to witness the brilliance of the night sky. The act of taking photographs to document these dark sky qualities underscores the remarkable celestial displays that can be observed from this location.
Promotional information is not directly available in the provided reviews. However, the overwhelmingly positive sentiments expressed by the campers serve as strong endorsements for the campground's appeal. Local users considering Beartooth Lake Campground for their "camping near me" search should likely contact the provided phone number, (307) 527-6921, to inquire about seasonal operating dates, reservation procedures (many popular campgrounds in scenic areas now require reservations, especially during peak season), fees (campgrounds along the Beartooth Highway often have nominal fees), and any specific regulations or recommendations for visitors. Given its location along a major scenic highway, it is advisable to book campsites in advance, particularly during the summer months and weekends, to ensure availability. Local residents might also inquire about any potential resident discounts or off-season rates that may apply.
In summary, Beartooth Lake Campground offers a truly remarkable camping experience for locals seeking natural beauty and tranquility near Cody, Wyoming. Its stunning lakeside setting, coupled with access to hiking trails and exceptional dark sky viewing opportunities, makes it a highly desirable destination. Beartooth Lake Campground Reviews
Cannot overstate how absolutely amazing this place is. A perfect spot to stay the night and enjoy the lake and it's trails. The lake was absolutely freezing however no force on heaven or earth could stop me from dipping my toes in a lake more beautiful than previously thought possible. I woke up to a freezing morning to walk to the lake and see the steam rise off her waters. I enjoyed the morning and glassed the opposite shores to see elk running across the other side. Hearing their calls made me want to live the rest of my life at that very spot and remain perfectly content. If you're looking for a spot to spend the night with a view. This is the place for you.
Aug 04, 2021 · Texas RedA wonderful campground hugging the margins of Beartooth Lake. I snagged a spot on the smaller and less-utilized C loop and had a great afternoon and evening. A little exploring of the area, some reading, and a chance to reorganize some of my gear. After dark I took a few pics to document the site's dark sky qualities. Most of the area around the Beartooth Hwy are pretty radically dark and this campsite was no exception. I took this photo after dark but before twilight was fully over. I liked the sight of the campsite in the next loop with their fire burning, illuminating the trees nearby. Great spot.
Aug 21, 2022 · John RummelGreat lake and campground, but someone(s) don't respect the bears, as in keeping their FOOD properly stored. This creates a massive problem, obviously. Respect the rules. Be safe.
Aug 13, 2023 · D “DW”This was one of the stops and almost the final stop on our trip through a small portion of the west. This is basically a first come first serve campsite with a small fee for staying. The lake water is extremely cold so it wouldn't be too much fun for swimming in. They are normal sized campsites with a firepit and a bench. Be cautious though that a bear and her Cubs like to walk around the lake occasionally so the bear boxes do need to be used and any other food needs to be kept in a hard bodied vehicle, not a soft top wrangler or anything like that. There is a few people there with medical knowledge and advise for the area, which came in handy as one of my friends fell down a portion of the mountain. We helped him down, rowed him across the lake, and they bandaged him up what they could. Then we made our way to the hospital in cody.
