Bellevue State Park Dyas Unit Campground Introduce
For local residents seeking a scenic and well-maintained "camping near me" experience, the Bellevue State Park Dyas Unit Campground, located at 21466 429th Ave in Bellevue, Iowa, offers an attractive option. Situated near the majestic Mississippi River, this campground provides a blend of natural beauty and convenient amenities for a comfortable outdoor stay. You can reach them at (563) 872-4019 or +1 563-872-4019 for inquiries and reservations. While specific promotional information is not available in the provided reviews, the detailed feedback from campers offers a comprehensive look at the environment, services, and features of this campground.
The environment surrounding the Bellevue State Park Dyas Unit Campground is described as "beautiful," and its location near the Mississippi River is a significant draw. While the campground is not directly on the riverbank, it offers "nice overlooks of the river and the locks," providing scenic vistas and opportunities to observe river traffic and the lock system. This proximity allows campers to enjoy the ambiance of the Mississippi River without necessarily being in a flood-prone area, as noted by one reviewer who found it a suitable alternative when lowlands and other campgrounds were flooded. The campground itself boasts "spacious sites & common areas with many trees," suggesting a well-shaded and pleasant environment. The presence of mature trees not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also provides shade during warmer months. However, potential campers with large RVs should "beware of the grade on some of the pull thru options," indicating that certain sites might have inclines that could pose a challenge for larger rigs.
In terms of services and amenities, Bellevue State Park Dyas Unit Campground offers a range of features to enhance the camping experience. Campsites, such as back-in site #77 mentioned in a review, feature "gravel pads," which help with leveling and drainage. While site #77 did not have water hookups, the campground generally provides essential utilities. One notable amenity is the availability of "private showers." However, it's important to be aware that these showers operate with a "push-button run time of only 25 seconds," which might require users to press the button frequently to maintain water flow. This is a specific detail to consider for personal comfort and planning. Each campsite is also equipped with a "table" and a "fire ring," standard amenities that contribute to a convenient and enjoyable outdoor cooking and gathering experience.
The upkeep of the campground is rated as "better than avg.," indicating that the facilities are well-maintained and cared for. This positive assessment aligns with another reviewer's description of the campground as "well kept and clean." The restrooms are described as "modern," suggesting they are up-to-date and in good condition, further contributing to a comfortable stay for campers. One reviewer also mentioned that the "restroom lights" operate "on motion timer," which is a common energy-saving feature in modern facilities.
For those interested in outdoor activities within the campground, Bellevue State Park Dyas Unit Campground offers "large sized paved & rather hilly campground road" that is suitable for both "Biking/Walking." The paved surface ensures a smooth experience for cyclists and pedestrians, while the hilly terrain adds an element of challenge and potential for scenic views along the way. This feature encourages campers to explore the campground and enjoy some physical activity in a safe environment. Beyond the campground roads, being located within Bellevue State Park implies access to other park amenities and potential hiking trails, although these are not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews for the Dyas Unit specifically. Bellevue State Park itself is known for its scenic beauty and overlooks of the Mississippi River, so campers at the Dyas Unit likely have access to these broader park attractions as well.
One reviewer who stayed in a "first-come-first-served spot" highlighted the ample length of the sites, accommodating their rig and providing flexibility even when the campground was "sold out for Memorial Day." This suggests that even during peak times, the campground can accommodate a variety of camping setups and offers some options for those who may not have advance reservations, although availability is not guaranteed. The reviewer also reiterated the "nice overlooks of the river and the locks" and the overall positive experience, noting that the campground "still looks great" in a 2024 update, indicating consistent maintenance and quality over time. The fact that the campground remained a good option even when other low-lying areas were flooded underscores its potentially advantageous location on higher ground near the river.
While specific promotional offers or discounts are not mentioned in the reviews, it's worth noting the cost reported by one camper: "$22!" for a back-in site without water hookup. This provides a general indication of the affordability of camping at the Dyas Unit Campground. For the most current pricing and any potential promotions, local users should contact the campground directly or check the official Iowa State Parks website.
In conclusion, Bellevue State Park Dyas Unit Campground offers a beautiful and well-maintained "camping near me" option in Bellevue, Iowa, near the scenic Mississippi River. The campground features spacious campsites with gravel pads, picnic tables, and fire rings. While some sites may lack water hookups and the showers have a limited push-button duration, the availability of private, modern, and clean restrooms is a significant plus. The hilly paved roads within the campground are ideal for biking and walking, and the "nice overlooks of the river and the locks" provide stunning views. The campground's reputation for good upkeep and its suitability even during regional flooding make it a reliable choice for local campers. While pull-thru sites may have challenging grades for larger RVs, the overall impression is of a well-regarded and affordable camping destination within a beautiful state park setting. For the most accurate information on site availability, specific amenities, and current pricing, local users are encouraged to contact Bellevue State Park Dyas Unit Campground directly at (563) 872-4019 or +1 563-872-4019 or visit the Iowa DNR State Parks website.

Apr 27, 2024 · Cris J.Stayed in one of the first-come-first-served spots. Plenty of length for our rig and we could stay flexible even though campground is sold out for Memorial Day. Nice overlooks of the river and the locks. Worked really well when the lowlands and other campgrounds were flooded. Well kept and clean, modern bathrooms. Update 2024: same spot, campground still looks great! Not too busy.
Aug 09, 2024 · Michael SmithThe Dyas Unit of Bellevue State Park Iowa is not only a treasure for campers, but also provides amazing hiking trails for all skill levels. The trails are unique and challenging at times, as you follow the deer paths through the woodlands. The Blue and Yellow Trails give a unique view of hillside paths in the north and west side of Dyas Park, while the Bluff Trail follows the east Bluff overlooking the Mississippi River. If you just need a relaxing and shorter hike, the Deer Trail is fun for all and quite popular with children. This peaceful park is located 2 miles south of our beautiful Nelson Unit and provides hookups and accommodations for campers. Firewood is available during spring, summer, and fall.
Nov 21, 2023 · Lori LenschBeautiful place. Close to Galena, IL, Mines of Spain, Maquoketa Caves, and Dubuque. Campgrounds and restrooms were clean and well kept. My only issue is we had a group put their tent 3ft from our campfire. Of course this group was loud and obnoxious, but with this new wave of campers the DNR/Rangers need to be more observant of campers invading other campers sites. I know the ranger saw because he stopped and gave them suggestions on were they could have put their tents. I wish the ranger would have said something that should be common sense. I will say something next time. Their tent was literally 3ft from our campfire and 5ft into our campsite.
Aug 15, 2024 · urias1523What a wonderful park! It wasn't crowded at all and after staying at cramped, packed private parks the last 3 stops, our spacious site was the bomb! Best bird watching park we may have ever been in. And we even saw a rare leucistic American Robin. We are from Texas and are already making plans to come back.
