Bishop Lake Campgrounds Introduce
For local users seeking 'camping near me' in the Brighton, Michigan area, Bishop Lake Campgrounds, located at 5210 Bishop Lake Rd, Brighton, MI 48116, USA, presents a scenic option for outdoor enthusiasts. While some aspects of the campground are currently undergoing or in need of upgrades, it offers a charming natural environment and unique features that may appeal to certain campers. You can reach them at their main phone number (800) 447-2757; however, one reviewer noted difficulty reaching the campground through this number for specific inquiries and was provided an alternative direct line: 810-229-6566. It's advisable to use the latter for direct contact.
The Beautiful Natural Environment:
One recurring theme in the available feedback is the acknowledged beauty of Bishop Lake Campgrounds. Situated in a potentially picturesque setting near Bishop Lake, campers can likely expect a tranquil environment surrounded by nature. While specific details about the landscape, such as the presence of wooded areas, lake access for swimming or boating, or hiking trails, are not explicitly mentioned in the provided reviews, the general sentiment suggests an appealing natural ambiance. The very fact that a visitor, even just to use the dump station, noted the campground "looked to be very nice" hints at an attractive and well-maintained overall environment.
Services and Amenities Currently Available:
Based on the limited information, the current services and amenities at Bishop Lake Campgrounds include:
- 20 Amp Electric Service: It is explicitly mentioned that the campsites are equipped with 20 amp electric service. This is a crucial piece of information for RV owners and those relying on electricity for appliances and devices.
- Dump Station: The campground provides a dump station, a significant amenity for RVers needing to empty their holding tanks. One visitor specifically used this service and confirmed its availability.
- Free Library: A unique and charming feature is a large tree stump that has been repurposed into a free library. This artistic and community-oriented addition offers campers the opportunity to borrow and exchange books during their stay.
- Pokemon Stops: For those interested in augmented reality games, the campground reportedly has "lots of Pokemon stops," which could be a significant draw for Pokemon Go players looking for a camping destination.
It is important to note the explicitly mentioned limitations in services: the campsites currently do not offer water or sewer hookups. This is a significant factor for RVers planning longer stays or those who prefer the convenience of full hookups. The review also indicates that the campground was closing for electric upgrades, suggesting a potential future improvement in electrical services beyond the current 20 amp offering.
Features and Unique Aspects:
Bishop Lake Campgrounds presents several features that make it a distinct option when considering 'camping near me':
- Scenic Beauty: The positive comment about the campground being "beautiful" suggests that the natural surroundings are a key draw.
- Free Library from a Tree Stump: This creative and eco-friendly feature adds a touch of character and promotes a sense of community among campers.
- Proximity to Pokemon Stops: For a specific segment of the camping population, the abundance of Pokemon Go stops within the campground could be a unique and appealing feature.
- Ongoing Improvements: The mention of upcoming electric upgrades indicates that the campground management is aware of the need for modernization and is taking steps to improve the facilities.
However, the current lack of water and sewer hookups at individual sites might be a drawback for some campers, particularly those with larger RVs or those planning extended stays who prefer full self-sufficiency at their campsite.
Potential for Future Improvements and Suggestions:
One of the reviews explicitly points out the need for further upgrades, suggesting that the campground should "fully upgrade to full hook ups and allow monthly stays." This feedback indicates a desire from at least one camper for more comprehensive services, including water and sewer connections at each site, and the option for longer-term camping arrangements. The reviewer also expresses a sentiment that Michigan campgrounds, in general, need to "get with the RV program" and modernize their offerings. This suggests that while Bishop Lake Campgrounds has its charms, there is room for improvement in terms of infrastructure to meet the expectations of modern RV travelers.
Promotional Information and Current Status:
The provided information does not contain any specific promotional offers for Bishop Lake Campgrounds. However, it does indicate that despite an automated recording suggesting potential closure for improvements, the campground was "definitely open" at the time of the review. This highlights the importance of using the direct phone line (810-229-6566) to get the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding the campground's operational status and any ongoing or planned improvements. Local users interested in camping at Bishop Lake should call this number to inquire about site availability, pricing, and the timeline for the electric upgrades mentioned in the review. It would also be beneficial to ask about any future plans for adding water and sewer hookups, as this seems to be a desired improvement among some campers.
In summary, Bishop Lake Campgrounds near Brighton, MI, offers a potentially beautiful natural setting and unique features like a free library and numerous Pokemon stops, making it an interesting option for those searching for 'camping near me' with specific interests or needs. However, it currently has limitations in terms of campsite hookups, offering only 20 amp electric service without water or sewer. The upcoming electric upgrades are a positive sign, but prospective campers should be aware of the current infrastructure. For those who prioritize a scenic environment and don't require full hookups, or for those interested in the unique amenities, Bishop Lake Campgrounds could be a worthwhile visit. Contacting them directly via the recommended phone number is crucial to get the latest information and make informed decisions about your camping plans.

Bishop Lake Campgrounds Reviews
The campground is beautiful. I knocked off 1 star because it only has 20amp electric, no water or sewer at the sites. They are closing to update the electric. I believe they need to fully upgrade to full hook ups and allow monthly stays. Michigan needs to get with the RV program. They are living in the 50's when it comes to this campground.
Aug 25, 2024 · Amy GivenI visited this campground for the dump station. I called the number on Google. I was sent through a loop of automated recording, saying the camp may be closed for improvements. The lady that I finally got to talk to gave me a different number to call for the campground. 8102296566. Campground is definitely open and looked to be very nice. Large tree stump turned into a free library. What an amazing piece of art. Lots of pokemon stops in the campground also. I hope to stay and check out the rest of the campground sometime!
Sep 11, 2024 · Jeremy TellierVery nice grounds and trails. Check in staff is amazing. Showers are clean with great water pressure. Very large sites in the lower campground. Dump station is set up very well with sewer and water hoses.
Oct 24, 2022 · Barie FetterWe found this campground to be wonderful! We stayed during the week in mid spring so it wasn't that busy until towards the end of the week. The entire week we had a young cardinal visit our camper windows multiple times throughout the day. That was fun! Bathrooms and showers were clean. We visited the campground prior to pick out larger campsites. Park was very clean and the dump station even had sewer hose there so we didn't have to use our own. Very large beach down the road. We plan on staying here again.
