Island Lake-Canoe Campground

12950 Grand River Ave, Brighton, MI 48116, USA

Stayed at Campsite 2, which is much larger than #1. Very good site, very private except from the river. There was no firewood left at the wood spot, but we made due with all the dead wood around the area. There's a vault toilet parked between the two sites. Distance between camp sites is approx 300 feet, so all but the most rowdy can't be heard. I had a bluetooth speaker going all afternoon and you couldn't hear it from the other site. - john spencer

Island Lake-Canoe Campground Introduce

Hello, local outdoor adventurers! If you're searching for "camping near me" in the Brighton, Michigan area, Island Lake-Canoe Campground, located at 12950 Grand River Ave, Brighton, MI 48116, USA, offers a unique experience centered around lakeside camping and canoe access. You can reach them at (810) 229-7067 or their mobile number, +1 810-229-7067, for inquiries and reservations. Based on the available customer reviews, this campground provides a blend of privacy and natural beauty, particularly appealing to those who enjoy being near the water.

When looking for "camping near me," the features of individual campsites and the overall environment are often key considerations. Island Lake-Canoe Campground seems to offer distinct characteristics between its campsites. Reviewers specifically mentioned Campsite 1 and Campsite 2. Campsite 2 is noted as being "much larger than #1" and "very private except from the river." This suggests that if you're looking for a more spacious and secluded spot with river frontage, Campsite 2 might be ideal. The reviewer also mentioned the absence of firewood at the designated wood spot but noted the availability of dead wood in the surrounding area, which could be a factor to consider for campfires.

Privacy between campsites appears to be a notable feature of Island Lake-Canoe Campground. The review estimates the distance between campsites to be approximately 300 feet, stating that "all but the most rowdy can't be heard." This level of separation can contribute to a more peaceful and immersive natural experience, allowing campers to enjoy their own space without significant noise disruption from neighbors. The reviewer even tested this with a Bluetooth speaker, confirming that the sound didn't carry to the adjacent site.

The second review provides further details about both campsites. Site #1 is highlighted for having a "floating dock and a nice swimming area," along with "grassy tent pads." This makes it particularly appealing for those who enjoy swimming and want a comfortable surface for tent camping with easy access to the water via the floating dock. The same reviewer notes that "Canoe in campgrounds are the best," reinforcing the water-centric appeal of this location. In contrast, Site #2 is described as "better for larger groups of hammocks, packed dirt mostly, not really a good swim spot though." This indicates that Site #2 might be more suitable for those with hammocks or who don't prioritize swimming directly from their site. The "packed dirt" description suggests a different ground surface compared to the grassy pads of Site #1.

Both reviewers mentioned the lack of firewood and potable water at the campground. One reviewer "could tell there was a spot for wood but nothing was there," highlighting the importance of campers potentially bringing their own firewood and definitely their own drinking water. This is crucial information for anyone planning a trip to Island Lake-Canoe Campground – self-sufficiency in these basic needs seems necessary. Additionally, the presence of a "vault toilet parked between the two sites" indicates the type of restroom facility available, which is a non-flushing toilet.

Another important point raised is the presence of "poison ivy abounds." Campers should be aware of this and take necessary precautions to avoid contact. Wearing appropriate clothing and being able to identify poison ivy are advisable when staying at this campground.

Finally, the second review mentions an "extra $10 for reservation fee," making the total cost $27 instead of a hypothetical $17 base price. This indicates that there is a reservation system in place, and an additional fee applies when booking a campsite. Local users should factor this into their budget when planning a visit.

In summary, Island Lake-Canoe Campground in Brighton, MI, offers a unique "camping near me" experience with a focus on its proximity to water, likely Island Lake or a connected river suitable for canoeing. Campsite 1 is noted for its floating dock, swimming area, and grassy tent pads, while Campsite 2 is larger, more private (especially from the river), and better suited for hammocks. Campers should be prepared to bring their own firewood and potable water. A vault toilet serves both campsites. Be aware of the presence of poison ivy. There is also a $10 reservation fee in addition to the campsite cost. For local users seeking a more private, lakeside camping experience with opportunities for canoeing, Island Lake-Canoe Campground is worth considering. Contact them at the provided phone number to inquire about availability and make reservations, keeping in mind the additional reservation fee and the need to bring your own wood and water.
