Blind Lake Campground Introduce
For local users in the Gregory, Michigan area, and those throughout Southeast Michigan seeking a more secluded and rustic "camping near me" experience, Blind Lake Campground, located at 19601-19787 Crescent Dr, Gregory, MI 48137, USA, offers a unique opportunity for a hike-in or bike-in camping adventure. Situated within the expansive Waterloo Recreation Area, this campground provides a backcountry feel with basic amenities, appealing to those who prioritize immersion in nature and a more primitive camping style.
The environment surrounding Blind Lake Campground is characterized by its natural and relatively undeveloped setting within the Waterloo Recreation Area, which, as previously noted, is a significant natural gem in Southeast Michigan. The fact that access to the campground is primarily via hiking or biking trails underscores its rustic nature and its location away from easily accessible roadways. This suggests a quieter and more tranquil environment, likely surrounded by forests, potentially near Blind Lake itself (though this is not explicitly stated). The terrain would likely be varied, offering opportunities for scenic hikes and bike rides to and from the campsites.
The primary feature of Blind Lake Campground is its accessibility – or rather, its limited accessibility. Being a hike-in or bike-in campground means that campers must travel a distance on foot or by bicycle to reach the campsites. This inherently creates a more secluded and less crowded camping experience, attracting those who are willing to exert some effort for a more immersive natural getaway. One reviewer specifically mentions hiking in via different trails, covering 6 miles in and 5 miles out, highlighting the opportunity for extended treks as part of the camping trip.
Another notable feature is the availability of hammock posts at some campsites. Reviewers mention that sites 1, 2, 5, and 6 are equipped with these posts, catering specifically to those who prefer hammock camping. This allows for a lightweight and comfortable sleeping arrangement suspended above the ground, enhancing the backcountry feel. However, it's important to note that not all sites have hammock posts, so campers should inquire about availability when making reservations or choosing a site.
In terms of basic amenities, Blind Lake Campground provides "potable water" and a "vault toilet." The availability of potable water is crucial for a comfortable and safe camping experience, eliminating the need for campers to carry in all their water supply. A vault toilet, while rustic, provides a more sanitary and environmentally responsible waste disposal option compared to dispersed camping without facilities. One reviewer also mentions a "hand water pump" nearby, which is likely the source of the potable water.
Connectivity can be a consideration for some campers. One reviewer noted that "4g data is ok if using Verizon network," providing some insight into potential mobile service availability in the area. However, it's important to note that coverage can vary depending on the carrier and location within the campground.
Based on the customer reviews, key features of Blind Lake Campground include:
- Hike-In/Bike-In Access: Requiring travel by foot or bicycle, ensuring a more secluded experience.
- Rustic Setting: Located within the natural environment of the Waterloo Recreation Area with limited development.
- Hammock Posts (Select Sites): Sites 1, 2, 5, and 6 are equipped for hammock camping.
- Potable Water: Access to drinking water via a hand pump.
- Vault Toilet: Providing a basic sanitation facility.
- Potential Verizon 4G Data: Limited information suggests possible mobile connectivity with Verizon.
- Hiking and Biking Trails: Situated within an area known for its extensive trail system.
The reviews do not provide information about specific services such as reservations, fees, or check-in procedures. As a rustic campground within a larger recreation area, it is likely managed by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Local users would need to consult the official DNR website or contact them directly (the provided phone number, while listed, may be for a broader DNR information line) to obtain details on booking, permits, fees, and any specific regulations for Blind Lake Campground.
Similarly, there is no promotional information available in the provided reviews. Any special offers or seasonal information would likely be communicated through official DNR channels.
In conclusion, for local adventurers in the Gregory and surrounding areas seeking a "camping near me" experience that involves a bit of effort to reach a more secluded and rustic setting, Blind Lake Campground offers an appealing option within the scenic Waterloo Recreation Area. The hike-in/bike-in access, coupled with the availability of hammock posts on some sites and basic amenities like potable water and a vault toilet, caters to those who enjoy a more primitive camping style and immersion in nature. The surrounding area offers ample opportunities for hiking and biking. Local users are advised to contact the Michigan DNR for detailed information on reservations, fees, and any specific guidelines for Blind Lake Campground to plan their rustic outdoor adventure.

Blind Lake Campground Reviews
My son, grandson, and I hiked in to camp at this rustic site. Sites 1,2,5,6 are equipped with hammock posts. There is potable water and a vault toilet. We took different trails for a 6 mile hike in and 5 miles out.
Jun 19, 2024 · Kriya Moon (Joyful Journey Guide)Great hike or bike in campground. Most but not all sites have posts for hammock camping. Hand water pump and outhouse are nearby. 4g data is ok if using Verizon network.
Oct 04, 2022 · Jason DuncanNice little hike in site. People at the HQ wanted me to do a crazy long hike to get in and out. I'm not about that life. There are a couple other parking options from 1-2 miles in and out. Stayed in B3. Right on the water, beautiful views. Not much privacy between sites and the hiking/mtb trail behind you. Need to source your own firewood, has fresh water pump. Fairly clean vault toilet. Will definitely stay again.
Jul 24, 2020 · Corey O'NeillVery accommodating backpacking site with direct lake access. Beautiful views. Mosquitoes were very determined. Be sure to bring the right clothing and plenty of bug repellant. Also, word for the wise, pick up a few dry pieces of wood before you get to your site. We only grabbed a couple and had to deal with a lot of moist wood at site which we had to dry before it caught.
Jun 30, 2020 · Anastasia BattleGreat rustic campground. You can hike as little as a half mile or take as long as a route as you'd like. Bathroom and hand pump for water make it a nice site
