Based on recent customer reviews, this campground is particularly appreciated for its serene atmosphere and access to Crooked Lake for fishing and kayaking. While it offers a rustic experience with certain amenities, potential visitors should be aware of the facilities available to ensure it meets their needs.
The environment of Crooked Lake Rustic Campground is consistently described as quiet and secluded, making it an ideal retreat for those looking to escape the noise and bustle of everyday life. The campground is situated alongside Crooked Lake, offering many campsites proximity to the water. While some campsites may have a slight incline, reviewers note that these are manageable. The presence of Crooked Lake allows for activities like fishing, where an abundance of bluegill can be caught. For those seeking a larger lake experience or a swimming beach, Silver Lake is located within a short drive from the campground. The surrounding area also boasts numerous other lakes and recreational areas, providing additional options for exploration and activities beyond the immediate campground.
In terms of services and features, Crooked Lake Rustic Campground offers essential amenities for a comfortable rustic camping experience. It's important to note that the campground utilizes vault toilets (pit toilets), which are consistently praised for being clean and well-maintained, even more so than some traditional bathrooms at other campgrounds, according to one reviewer. However, a significant point to consider is the absence of shower facilities on-site. While one reviewer humorously mentioned the emotional impact of this lack, they also indicated being prepared for it. For those who require showers, planning accordingly, perhaps utilizing nearby facilities as the reviewer did, would be necessary.
A notable feature of Crooked Lake Rustic Campground is the presence of a "super nice" dock, which provides excellent access for fishing directly into the lake. Additionally, the campground offers a well-maintained boat launch, making it convenient for guests who wish to bring their own boats for fishing or leisurely exploration of Crooked Lake. The lake itself is described as a good spot for kayaking, offering a peaceful way to enjoy the water and the surrounding scenery. However, it's explicitly mentioned that there is no beach for swimming directly at Crooked Lake. For swimming opportunities, the nearby Silver Lake area offers a large beach and recreational area, easily accessible by a short drive.
The campsites at Crooked Lake Rustic Campground are generally spacious, providing ample room for setting up tents and enjoying outdoor activities. One reviewer specifically recommended campsite C11, describing it as big and located off the main road, offering extra privacy. They noted that this site was large enough to accommodate two fairly large tents, an easy-up shelter, family chairs, and still have space for games like cornhole. While some sites might have a slight incline, the majority are reported to be level or easily able to be leveled, accommodating both tents and potentially smaller RVs or trailers. The rustic nature of the campground suggests that hookups might be limited or unavailable, though this is not explicitly stated in the provided reviews.
While specific promotional information is not included in the reviews, the positive feedback regarding the quiet atmosphere, lake access for fishing and kayaking, spacious campsites, and the cleanliness of the vault toilets serves as a strong endorsement for those seeking a rustic and peaceful "camping near me" experience. The affordability of the campground is also implied, though specific rates are not mentioned in the provided text. The recommendation of specific campsites, like C11, could be seen as insider tips for those planning a visit.

Crooked Lake Rustic Campground Reviews
I spent a couple days here and it was fantastic. Some of the sites have a bit of an incline but you can work with it. Lots of bluegill to catch and Silver lake is a short drive away. The pit toilets were clean and maintained. Rent out C11 if you can; it's big and off the main road.
Aug 06, 2024 · KenIt was super quiet, and even though the lack of showers hurt me emotionally I was prepared for that. The dock is super nice for fishing, the boat launch is maintained really well. There are loads of other lakes and recreational areas locally if a quiet weekend of camping isn't for you. The vault toilets were very well taken care of and I think they got cleaned more than the bathrooms at some other camp grounds. We stayed in site 11 and it's huge big enough for 2 fairly large tents, an easy up, and all of the family chairs, with enough room to play corn hole still. The lake is a good little kayaking spot, but there isn't a beach for swimming, but a quick drive gets you to the silver lake area that has a huge beach and rec area.
May 31, 2022 · Mike JohnsonYou have to check in at park headquarters. Google maps took us to the wrong side of the lake, so be cautious, hopefully they fix it. We stayed at C14 which is close enough to the rustic bathrooms (no showers/running water) and lake which has a dock, but not really to swim in. I wish the campsite was a little more secluded, which some sites were. Had a bench, fire circle, and two large trees perfect for a hammock. They were all out of firewood for sell, so bring your own.
May 18, 2024 · Nicole RodriguezGorgeous scenery, especially with fall colors in full show. Not hard to get a campsite at even the day of (during the week I mean. I'm not sure about the weekend). Clean place with considerate neighbors and no outside noise from highways or planes or anything. Did not encounter any horrendous bugs or wildlife while there.
