Based on the available customer reviews, the Black Moshannon State Park Family Cabin District features two distinct types of cabins, each offering a unique charm and set of amenities. One reviewer mentioned staying in the "modern cabins" and described them as "awesome." While the specific amenities of the modern cabins aren't detailed in the reviews, they likely offer a comfortable and well-equipped base for exploring the park.
Another reviewer highlighted the appeal of the "old CCC cabins," referring to cabins constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps, a public work relief program from the 1930s. These historic cabins are described as "very cozy" and come equipped with desirable features such as a fireplace, a kitchen, and bunk beds. The presence of a fireplace adds a touch of rustic charm and provides a source of warmth during cooler evenings, as noted by one reviewer who stayed during a cold and rainy weekend but found the cabin "so warm and cozy" upon returning from outdoor activities. The inclusion of a kitchen allows for convenient meal preparation, making it easier for families and groups to manage their meals during their stay. Bunk beds offer practical sleeping arrangements, especially suitable for families with children or groups of friends.
A significant advantage mentioned by the reviewer who stayed in the CCC cabin is the "abundance of wood that is provided," indicating that guests can readily enjoy the fireplace without the hassle of sourcing their own firewood. Furthermore, the cabins are located within "walking distance of the water, trails, etc.," underscoring the prime location of the cabin district within Black Moshannon State Park. This proximity allows for easy access to the park's key attractions and recreational opportunities, making it an excellent choice for those who enjoy outdoor activities.
Black Moshannon State Park itself is a significant draw, characterized by its stunning 250-acre black water lake, surrounded by diverse habitats including bogs, forests, and wetlands. The "bog trail," specifically mentioned by one reviewer as a past favorite, offers a unique opportunity to explore the park's distinctive bog ecosystem, with its specialized plant and animal life. The availability of a "pontoon tour," also mentioned, suggests a relaxing way to experience the beauty of the lake and learn about its ecology. The park also boasts numerous hiking trails catering to various skill levels, providing ample opportunities for exploring the natural landscape and enjoying the fresh air.
The positive experiences shared in the reviews extend beyond the cabins themselves. One reviewer mentioned having also stayed in the general campground and found it "very nice as well," indicating that Black Moshannon State Park offers well-maintained facilities across its different lodging options. The overall sentiment expressed by both reviewers is overwhelmingly positive, with one stating, "Love this park," and the other recounting numerous enjoyable stays.

From leisurely walks and nature observation along the bog trail to more active hiking and the relaxing pontoon tour on the lake, there are opportunities for all ages and interests. Black Moshannon State Park Family Cabin District Reviews
Nice weekend at this beautiful park. The modern cabins was awesome. My daughter and I were there for the Women in the Wilds event. It was cold and raining but still had a blast. And the cabin was so warm and cozy when we got back to it. We have done the bog trail in former visits as well as the pontoon tour. We have also stayed in the campground and it is very nice as well. Love this park.
May 10, 2022 · Susan SifordWe've stayed here numerous times and we just love these cabins. The last time we went was for my 40th birthday and we had a blast. The old CCC cabins are very cozy with a fireplace, a kitchen and bunk beds. There is an abundance of wood that is provided for you and you are in walking distance of the water, trails, etc. Oliver collected acorns the last day we were there and told us they looked like "tiny caps for tiny bats."
