I was looking for bullseye lake when I found Blanch lake it's a beautiful place but no fish in that lake . Now with that being said , bullseye lake is just another half a mile or less and it has off the hook FISHING lots of Rainbow trout. You need a snowmobile to get in in the winter and an auger to get through the ice , I personally don't know anything about ice fishing. - Troy Shankles

For local users searching for "camping near me" in the scenic McCloud area of Northern California, Blanche Lake Campground, located off Forest Service Road 43N75 in McCloud, CA 96057, offers a potentially beautiful lakeside setting within the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. You can reach them at (530) 667-2246 or +1 530-667-2246 for inquiries. Based on the limited customer reviews, Blanche Lake Campground boasts natural beauty but also presents some important considerations regarding fishing and insect activity.

The environment of Blanche Lake Campground is described by one reviewer as "a beautiful place," suggesting an appealing natural setting. Being located off a Forest Service Road near McCloud, it is highly probable that the campground is situated within the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, known for its diverse landscapes including forests, lakes, and mountains. Campers at Blanche Lake can likely expect:

  • Lakeside Setting: The name itself indicates that the campground is located near Blanche Lake, offering potential lake views and a tranquil waterside ambiance.
  • Forested Surroundings: As part of the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, the campground is likely nestled amongst trees, providing shade and a sense of being immersed in nature. The specific types of trees will depend on the elevation and local ecosystem.
  • Mountainous Region: The McCloud area is part of a mountainous region, so expect scenic views of surrounding hills and possibly more distant peaks.
  • Potential for Wildlife: The national forest is home to various wildlife species, which may be present in the vicinity of the campground.
  • Seasonal Access Considerations: One review mentions the need for a snowmobile to access the area in the winter, indicating that the campground may be subject to significant snowfall and limited accessibility during the colder months.

The services and features at Blanche Lake Campground are not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews. However, based on the nature of campgrounds in national forests, particularly those accessed via Forest Service roads, we can infer some likely characteristics:

  • Designated Campsites: Expect designated areas for setting up tents or parking smaller RVs. The development level might vary, with some sites potentially more primitive than others.
  • Fire Rings (Likely): Campgrounds typically provide fire rings at each campsite for safe campfire management (when permitted).
  • Picnic Tables (Likely): Picnic tables are another common amenity at established campgrounds, offering a designated space for eating and other activities.
  • Vault Toilets (Possible): Restroom facilities are likely to be basic vault toilets, common in more remote or less developed campgrounds.
  • Limited or No Water Source: It is possible that Blanche Lake Campground has a limited water supply or no potable water available. Campers should be prepared to bring their own water or have a purification method for natural sources (if permitted).
  • No Trash Service (Likely): In many national forest campgrounds, especially those in more remote locations, a "pack it in, pack it out" policy is in effect. Campers should be prepared to take all their trash with them.
  • Winter Access Restrictions: The need for a snowmobile in winter indicates that the campground is not easily accessible by regular vehicles during periods of heavy snow. This is a significant factor for those considering winter camping.

The reviews provide crucial insights into the features and potential drawbacks of Blanche Lake Campground:

  • Lack of Fish in Blanche Lake: One reviewer explicitly states, "no fish in that lake." This is a significant piece of information for anglers considering this campground as a fishing destination.
  • Proximity to Bullseye Lake for Fishing: Interestingly, the same reviewer notes that nearby Bullseye Lake (about half a mile or less away) offers "off the hook FISHING" with "lots of Rainbow trout." This suggests that while Blanche Lake itself may not be suitable for fishing, a short trip to Bullseye Lake could provide excellent angling opportunities.
  • Severe Mosquito Problem: Another reviewer simply states, "Awful misquote so bad couldn't be outside." This is a critical warning for potential visitors, indicating that during certain times of the year (likely warmer months), mosquito activity at Blanche Lake Campground can be extremely high and may significantly impact the camping experience.
  • Winter Ice Fishing at Bullseye Lake (Information Only): The review mentions the need for a snowmobile and auger for ice fishing at Bullseye Lake in winter, but the reviewer has no personal experience with this activity. This provides information about potential winter recreation at the nearby lake but does not directly pertain to Blanche Lake Campground itself.

Currently, there is no specific promotional information available for Blanche Lake Campground. The primary appeal for local users searching for "camping near me" might be its potential beauty and lakeside setting within the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. However, the significant issues with mosquitoes, as reported by one reviewer, and the lack of fishing in Blanche Lake itself are crucial factors that potential visitors must consider.

For local users considering Blanche Lake Campground, it is essential to weigh the potential beauty of the location against the reported negative aspects:

  • Potential Beauty: The initial positive comment about the lake being "a beautiful place" suggests a visually appealing natural environment.
  • Proximity to Excellent Fishing (Nearby Lake): The close proximity to Bullseye Lake, with its reportedly abundant rainbow trout, could be a major draw for anglers. However, this requires a short trip from Blanche Lake Campground.
  • Severe Mosquito Issue: The strong negative comment about overwhelming mosquitoes is a significant deterrent and suggests that proper insect repellent and protective clothing are absolutely necessary, and even then, outdoor activities might be severely limited during certain times.
  • No Fishing in Blanche Lake: If fishing in the immediate vicinity of your campsite is a priority, Blanche Lake itself does not appear to offer this.
  • Winter Access Limitations: Be aware of the need for a snowmobile to access the campground in winter, which is a significant logistical consideration for winter camping.

Before planning a trip to Blanche Lake Campground, local users should take the following steps:

  • Inquire About Current Conditions: Contact the phone number provided (530) 667-2246 or +1 530-667-2246 to ask about the current mosquito situation and if there are any known periods of particularly high activity. Also, inquire about water availability and other amenities at the campground.
  • Fishing Information for Bullseye Lake: If fishing is your primary interest, gather more details about Bullseye Lake, including access from Blanche Lake Campground, fishing regulations, and any necessary permits.
  • Winter Access Details: If considering a winter trip, obtain detailed information about snowmobile access, parking for vehicles, and any specific regulations for winter camping in the area.
  • Prepare for Mosquitoes: If visiting during warmer months, come fully prepared with strong insect repellent, mosquito nets for tents and potentially for personal use, and wear long sleeves and pants, especially during dawn and dusk.
  • Water and Waste Management: Be prepared to bring all your own water and have a plan for packing out all your trash.
  • Check Campground Amenities: Confirm the availability of fire rings, picnic tables, and restroom facilities by calling the provided number.

In conclusion, Blanche Lake Campground near McCloud, CA, offers a potentially beautiful lakeside setting within the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. However, local users searching for "camping near me" must be aware of the reported severe mosquito problems and the lack of fishing in Blanche Lake itself. The proximity to the fish-rich Bullseye Lake is a potential advantage for anglers willing to travel a short distance. Contacting the campground directly for current conditions and being well-prepared for insects are crucial steps before planning a visit to Blanche Lake Campground.
