The campground's location, discovered by travelers between Palisades, ID, and Jackson, WY, highlights its accessibility for those exploring the region.
One of the standout features of Blowout Campground is its environment, described as a "lovely spot" offering "riverside catharsis." The proximity to the river provides a soothing ambiance and opportunities for enjoying the waterfront. While primarily designed for boat access, the current low water levels render the boat ramp unusable, as noted by a recent visitor. However, this situation contributes to the campground's quiet evenings, a significant advantage for those seeking peace and tranquility. The sunsets at Blowout Campground are reportedly "worth the wait," suggesting breathtaking views that add to the overall appeal of the location. Nature enthusiasts might also appreciate the presence of a "lone, male broadtailed hummingbird" often seen among the fireweed blossoms, adding a touch of local wildlife charm to the experience.
In terms of services and features, Blowout Campground operates on a "first come first serve" basis. This policy means that reservations are not typically accepted, so it's advisable to arrive early to secure a spot, especially during peak seasons. The pricing is budget-friendly, with campsites costing $17 per night. The campground offers a mix of camping options, including "no hook up" sites and some with hookups, catering to different types of camping setups. Both "back in" and "pull through" sites are available, accommodating various RV sizes and preferences, as well as tent campers. For tent camping, visitors have noted "nice flat spots with sand plots," which provide a comfortable and well-drained surface for pitching tents.
Blowout Campground permits fires, allowing campers to enjoy the quintessential camping experience of gathering around a campfire. There is also a day-use area located just below the campground, which includes the currently unusable boat ramp. While the immediate area focuses on the natural environment and basic camping amenities, it's important to note that the campground does not offer showers. For bathroom facilities, vault toilets are available. While one review doesn't comment on their cleanliness, it's essential for potential visitors to be aware of the limited facilities.
Despite its peaceful setting, Blowout Campground is not entirely isolated from civilization. One reviewer mentioned that "you can hear traffic at times," indicating that the campground is located within earshot of a nearby road. However, they also noted that other than the occasional traffic noise, the campground is "pretty quiet," suggesting that the noise is not overly disruptive to the overall serene atmosphere, particularly during the evenings.
For those seeking a simple and nature-oriented "camping near me" experience without the need for extensive amenities, Blowout Campground offers a compelling option. Its riverside location, potential for wildlife sightings, and the promise of beautiful sunsets create a unique appeal. The budget-friendly pricing and the availability of different site types (no hookup, some hookups, back-in, pull-through) provide flexibility for various camping preferences. The first-come, first-served policy requires a bit of spontaneity but can also lead to the discovery of this "lovely spot."
While the information available does not include any specific promotional offers, the positive descriptions of the campground's tranquility and natural beauty serve as an inherent promotion for those seeking a peaceful escape. The mention of the hummingbird and the emphasis on the quiet evenings and sunsets paint a picture of a relaxing and rewarding camping experience. For local users in the Dubois, Idaho area or those traveling through, Blowout Campground presents an opportunity to connect with nature in a simple and unpretentious setting.
In conclusion, Blowout Campground offers a unique "camping near me" experience characterized by its riverside location, quiet evenings, and potential for stunning sunsets. Blowout Campground Reviews
Discovered this lovely spot while driving between Palisades, ID and Jackson, WY while on the road for work. It's designed to be a quick boat drop... Which means the evenings are very quiet times. Which also means the sunsets are worth the wait. Look for the lone, male broadtailed hummingbird among the fireweed blossoms. He is good company. Recommended just as a spot for riverside catharsis. The rest is gravy.
Aug 03, 2024 · Marc MorrisFirst come first serve,....17$ a night no hook up and some hook ups, some back in and some pull through. Fires allowed, a day use area just below with a boat ramp but water is so low you can't use it at all. You can hear traffic at times other than that pretty quiet. Nice flat spots qith sand plots for tents too. Bathrooms...NO showers.
Sep 03, 2021 · LeeAnna SpringerJust a drive through to check it out and let my Golden take a swim in the reservoir. Nice clean place and great to see the reservoir full with snow capped mountains reflecting on the water.
Jun 03, 2023 · Mike SwansonThis is a tidy, comfortable, and very pleasant basic campground. Blowout offers one of the best combinations of access, facilities, and privacy among the Palisades Reservoir campgrounds. The hosts are fantastic and keep the place in top shape, including the most immaculate campground pit toilets I've used. The only drawback of the campground is its location near the highway, but traffic quiets down substantially during quiet hours. I would recommend this place.
