The environment surrounding Palisades Creek Campground is clearly the primary attraction, with reviewers consistently highlighting the breathtaking beauty of the Upper Palisades Lake. One reviewer notes, "Beautiful Upper lake, good lower lake, but absolutely stunning upper lake," establishing the upper lake as a must-see destination for visitors. The presence of both an upper and lower lake suggests varied aquatic environments to explore and enjoy. The journey to these lakes, particularly the Upper Palisades Lake, involves traversing "rocky roads," which is a consideration for those planning to bring horses, as one reviewer advises to "shoe up your horses." This rugged terrain likely contributes to the scenic grandeur of the area. The presence of "maintained trails" is a significant asset for hikers, indicating that efforts are made to keep the paths accessible, with one reviewer noting "nothing across them." The trail to the Upper Palisades Lake is described as "awesome" but also challenging, characterized by "many rocks and roots" and sections that become "pretty narrow." Despite the challenging terrain, the overall ascent is "gradually up," although it involves "many ups and downs." The extended hiking times provided—4-5 hours to reach the Upper Lake without a wagon—underscore the somewhat strenuous nature of the hike and the reward of reaching the stunning destination. The surrounding area, being part of the Caribou-Targhee National Forest, likely features diverse mountain landscapes, forests, and potentially opportunities for wildlife viewing, contributing to an overall immersive and beautiful natural environment for campers to enjoy.
Information regarding the specific services and amenities at Palisades Creek Campground is not directly provided in the customer reviews. However, based on the location within a National Forest area, it is reasonable to expect basic facilities aimed at supporting a rustic camping experience. These might include designated campsites with fire rings and picnic tables. Access to potable water and restroom facilities (likely vault toilets) may be available, but it is advisable to confirm these details with the managing authority. Given the focus on the natural environment and hiking trails, extensive amenities like electrical hookups or shower facilities are less likely but should be verified if they are a requirement for your camping needs. The mention of maintained trails suggests that the area is geared towards outdoor recreation, primarily hiking and potentially horseback riding, given the note about rocky roads and horses. Campers should be prepared for a more self-sufficient camping experience, bringing necessary supplies and equipment. Information regarding trash disposal and any specific regulations for the campground, such as campfire rules and pet policies, should also be obtained from the relevant authorities. The phone number provided may serve as a general contact for campgrounds in the area, so it is crucial to specify your interest in Palisades Creek Campground when you call.
The features of Palisades Creek Campground are strongly tied to its access to the Upper and Lower Palisades Lakes and the trail system connecting them. The "absolutely stunning upper lake" is undoubtedly the premier feature, offering breathtaking scenery that makes the challenging hike worthwhile. The presence of a lower lake provides an alternative destination that is described as "good," suggesting it also offers scenic value. The maintained trails are a significant feature for hikers, providing access to these beautiful alpine lakes. The challenging nature of the hike to the Upper Palisades Lake, with its rocky and narrow sections, will appeal to more adventurous hikers seeking a rewarding trek. The fact that horses are permitted (with the caveat of needing shoes for the rocky terrain) caters to equestrians looking to explore the area. The campground serves as a basecamp for these recreational activities, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the Caribou-Targhee National Forest and experience the stunning lakes. The extended hiking times to the Upper Lake suggest that it can be a significant day trip, making the campground a convenient place to stay before and after the hike. The overall setting within the National Forest also implies opportunities for wildlife viewing and enjoying a more remote and natural camping experience compared to privately owned campgrounds with more extensive amenities.

Palisades Creek Campground Reviews
Beautiful Upper lake, good lower lake, but absolutely stunning upper lake. Rocky roads, so shoe up your horses. Maintained trails, nothing across them.
Oct 07, 2023 · Jordelle LovellIt is an awesome trail to the Upper Palisades lake. It has many rocks and roots on the way there. The trail sometimes gets pretty narrow. There is many ups and downs on the way yet the whole road goes gradually up. We brought a wagon to carry our stuff which make it almost impossible to make it but we did it within 9 hours to get up and 7 to get down. Never take wagon there! Without it expect to get to the Upper lake within 4-5 hours.
Jul 08, 2019 · ILYA KovalyovI absolutely love this campground. I love that it doesn't have many camp areas and feels secluded. Very beautiful place!
Oct 13, 2023 · Gloria PerezPerfect stop on our way up to Glacier NP. Host was welcoming and full of useful information regarding hikes and things to do during our stay. Nick is awesome and we will definitely be coming back.
Aug 12, 2022 · Jaki WolleyThis is a really nice little campground! It's clean, quiet, and super pretty. Even the restrooms were really clean! It's first-come, first-serve, and the campsites have good parking, nice firepits, bear boxes, picnic tables, and good sandy areas to set your tent up in. We had a great experience there!
