Buchanan Village Day Camp

My child has been bullied at the Buchanan Camp and I’ve been calling and writing to them repeatedly and the owner has the nerve to send me the Wikipedia definition of bullying and tells me she’s not a Counslor and refuses to set up a meeting with the children’s parents and states “boys will be boys” in a recent email. Kids are pushing him into the pool; pulling their pants off and shoving their butt in my kids face and ganging up on him and saying he’s a liar and pushing him into the sand. My son comes home telling me his heart is broken and he’s afraid. He’s only 7. Born a premie at 1 pound. Kids his age are significantly bigger and taller. His weight is 33 compared to the average child of 55-60 pounds. His height is 34 inches compared to the average child of 46 to 54 inches and they dare write me and say he generally looks happy and I’m using the word bullying loosely. You can easily tell who is my sweet Brandon. He has a twin sister who has witnessed the abuse helplessly. The two Counslor tell him to say away from them. Really. How can he! It’s so sad. They’ve had to stay home locked up in the house with my mom because the camp refuses to acknowledge the abuse and I can’t send them there knowing they are being abused. It’s a horrible feeling when the director states “boys will be boys”. Seriously. And of course I prepaid thousands of dollars and they have a policy of no refunds. What can I do but leave them home with my mom who doesn’t drive and they need to stay home bored to protect them. Buchanan camp is not recommended. I’ll post the emails if necessary. I’m going to contact the better business bureau!THIS PLACE IS HORRIBLE!! THEY ALLOW CHILDREN TO BE BULLIED AND DO NOTHING ABOUT IT!! DO NOT BRING YOUR CHILDREN TO THIS CAMP DO NOT PAY SO MUCH MONEY FOR THIS CAMP FOR YOUR CHILDREN TO BE BULLIED SCARED FEELING UNSAFE!! - Denise Dempsey

Buchanan Village Day Camp Introduce

Are you a local user in the Buchanan, New York area searching for camping or recreational day camp options for children near you? Within the "camping near me" category, Buchanan Village Day Camp, located at 218 Westchester Ave, Buchanan, NY 10511, USA, is listed. However, it is crucial to address significant negative feedback present in the available user reviews before discussing any potential environment, services, or features. The provided reviews contain serious allegations of bullying and mishandling of these issues by the camp management, which should be a primary consideration for any local users contemplating this camp for their children.

One extremely concerning review details a parent's repeated attempts to address severe bullying incidents experienced by their 7-year-old child at Buchanan Village Day Camp. The alleged incidents include physical aggression such as pushing into the pool, pulling down pants, and shoving, as well as emotional abuse involving ganging up, name-calling ("liar"), and physical intimidation like pushing into the sand. The parent recounts their child expressing feelings of heartbreak and fear due to this treatment. Disturbingly, the review claims that the camp owner responded to these serious allegations by sending a Wikipedia definition of bullying, stating she is "not a Counslor," refusing to arrange a meeting with the involved children's parents, and reportedly dismissing the behavior with the phrase "boys will be boys" in an email. The review further states that camp counselors allegedly advised the bullied child to simply "stay away from them," which the parent rightly points out is not a practical solution. As a result of the alleged lack of action and the camp's perceived failure to acknowledge the abuse, the parent states they had to keep their children at home, despite having prepaid a substantial amount with a no-refund policy. This parent explicitly "does not recommend" Buchanan camp and intends to contact the Better Business Bureau.

A second review echoes this sentiment, stating in strong terms: "THIS PLACE IS HORRIBLE!! THEY ALLOW CHILDREN TO BE BULLIED AND DO NOTHING ABOUT IT!! DO NOT BRING YOUR CHILDREN TO THIS CAMP DO NOT PAY SO MUCH MONEY FOR THIS CAMP FOR YOUR CHILDREN TO BE BULLIED SCARED FEELING UNSAFE!!" This review reinforces the serious concerns raised in the first account and serves as a stark warning to potential users.

In stark contrast to these deeply troubling accounts, a third review offers a positive experience, stating, "My son had a blast and a half at this camp. He learned how to swim and loved the counselors." This review suggests that some children may have positive experiences at the camp, highlighting potential features like swimming instruction and positive interactions with counselors. However, the severity of the bullying allegations and the reported lack of appropriate response from the management cannot be ignored and should weigh heavily on any decision to enroll a child in this camp.

Given the conflicting nature of the reviews, it is exceptionally difficult to provide an objective introduction to the environment, services, and features of Buchanan Village Day Camp without a significant caveat regarding the serious bullying concerns. If we were to disregard the negative reviews temporarily, we might speculate on the typical offerings of a day camp for children. Such camps often provide a structured environment with various activities, which could include swimming (as mentioned in the positive review), arts and crafts, outdoor games, sports, and educational programs. The environment would likely be geared towards children, with facilities such as play areas, possibly a pool, and indoor spaces for activities. The counselors, as mentioned positively by one reviewer, would typically be responsible for supervising and engaging with the children.

However, the allegations of unchecked bullying and the reported dismissive attitude of the management towards these serious issues overshadow any potential positive aspects. For local users searching for "camping near me" for their children, the safety and well-being of their children are paramount. The negative reviews paint a picture of a camp where at least one child allegedly experienced significant bullying without adequate intervention or support from the staff or management. This raises serious questions about the camp's policies and procedures for handling such situations and the overall safety and supervision provided to the children in their care.

In light of these critical negative reviews, it would be irresponsible to focus on potential positive features without emphasizing the significant risks suggested by the alleged bullying incidents and the reported response from the camp. Local users considering Buchanan Village Day Camp must be aware of these serious allegations and should exercise extreme caution. It would be prudent to seek further information, possibly from local authorities, the Better Business Bureau (as mentioned by one parent), or other parents in the community who may have experience with this camp. Directly contacting the camp to discuss their policies on bullying prevention and intervention would also be essential, and potential users should carefully evaluate the camp's response and assurances in light of the negative reviews.

Given the nature of the information available, no positive promotional information can be reliably presented. The serious concerns raised by the negative reviews should be the primary focus for local users. While one child reportedly had a positive experience, the allegations of bullying and the camp's alleged handling of these incidents present a significant red flag. Any potential benefits of the camp, such as swimming lessons or positive counselor interactions, are rendered secondary to the fundamental need for a safe and supportive environment for children. Therefore, local users searching for "camping near me" for their children are strongly advised to proceed with extreme caution and to thoroughly investigate these serious allegations before considering Buchanan Village Day Camp.
