West Point FMWR Round Pond Outdoor Recreation Area Introduce
For our users in US exploring the "camping near me" category and seeking destinations that offer a blend of natural beauty, recreational activities, and a unique environment, let us introduce you to the West Point FMWR Round Pond Outdoor Recreation Area, located at 1348 Round Pond Rd, West Point, New York, USA. This FamCamp, situated just off the West Point military base, offers a distinctive camping experience with a focus on providing a peaceful retreat packed with options for fun. While it has a military affiliation, it appears to welcome a broader range of visitors and boasts a stunning natural setting.
The environment of the Round Pond Outdoor Recreation Area is described as "breathtakingly peace filled," suggesting a serene and tranquil atmosphere that allows guests to truly unwind and connect with nature. The presence of Round Pond itself likely contributes significantly to this peaceful ambiance, offering scenic views and potentially opportunities for water-related activities, although these are not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews. One reviewer even mentioned taking pictures to convey the "vibe" of the location, indicating its visual appeal.
The campground seems well-organized, with clear rules provided in a welcome pack upon arrival. This suggests a structured approach to managing the facility, which can contribute to a more harmonious and predictable experience for all guests. The fact that a first-time visitor was "very pleased" and expressed a definite intention to return speaks positively about the overall impression and the quality of the experience offered.
One notable feature, although presented as a caution, is the winding road leading into and out of the recreation area. One reviewer in a Jeep Wrangler found it necessary to use low gear to navigate the S-curves. This information is particularly relevant for those with larger vehicles or RVs ("big rigs"), who might find the access challenging. It's advisable for potential visitors with larger vehicles to inquire about the road conditions and accessibility prior to their visit, perhaps by contacting the provided phone number: (315) 774-9524 or +1 315-774-9524.
Despite the road conditions, many visitors find the location highly rewarding. One native New Yorker, who grew up in the area and is also a veteran, expressed immense happiness at finding this place, highlighting the enduring beauty of the region. The proximity to Highland Falls allowed them to invite family for visits, further emphasizing the convenient location for those with connections to the area. This personal anecdote underscores the appeal of the Round Pond Outdoor Recreation Area, even to those familiar with the natural beauty of New York State.
The campground is described as being busy, particularly around football games at the nearby West Point base. This might be a consideration for those seeking absolute tranquility; however, it also suggests a vibrant atmosphere during certain times of the year. Arriving times might need to be planned consciously to avoid potential congestion on the access road during peak periods.
In terms of services and facilities, the Round Pond Outdoor Recreation Area appears to offer well-maintained amenities. One reviewer noted that their campsite was partially shaded and level, with a "nice view of the pond." Level campsites are crucial for comfortable RV and tent camping. The presence of shade is also a significant benefit, especially during warmer months.
The facilities are described as "clean," which is a fundamental expectation for any campground. Additionally, good quality washers and dryers are available, providing a valuable amenity for longer stays or for those who appreciate the convenience of on-site laundry. However, one reviewer mentioned being close to the dump station and laundry, noting potential "aromas" associated with these areas. When booking, it might be worth inquiring about the proximity of campsites to these facilities if this is a concern.
For recreational activities, the Round Pond Outdoor Recreation Area offers an archery range on-site. This provides a unique and engaging activity for those interested in archery. While other specific recreational options are not detailed, the initial review mentioned the area being "wonderfully packed with options for fun on site," suggesting the availability of other amenities or activities that contribute to an enjoyable stay.
It's also worth noting that the West Point military base is nearby, and from time to time, the sounds of training at the range might be audible. This is a characteristic of the location and something to be aware of for those sensitive to noise. However, for many, this might simply be a background element of staying in an area connected to a military installation.
For those needing supplies, the gas and commissary prices are mentioned as being better on base. This could be a convenient perk for those with base access or who are eligible to use these facilities.
The location of West Point is historically significant and boasts considerable beauty. Visitors are encouraged to catch a football game if the opportunity arises, as the base itself is described as one of the most beautiful and steeped in history. Furthermore, the area is highlighted as a "great fall foliage stop," indicating that the natural surroundings offer stunning seasonal beauty, particularly during the autumn months.

No specific promotional offers are mentioned in the reviews. West Point FMWR Round Pond Outdoor Recreation Area Reviews
Wow, breathtakingly peace filled and wonderfully packed with options for fun on site. The rules are very clear and provided in the welcome pack. This was my first experience here and am very pleased. Definitely returning.I’m not certain how big rigs get up the winding road in or out. In my six speed Jeep Wrangler dropped the gear down to crawl up and around and S curl again and again. God bless anyone with a big rig who can navigate the path.Took a few pictures to give ya the vibe.I’m so happy I found this place and am able to use stay. And, really nice helpful staff on the phone. Very accommodating to my arrival change.Side note, I’m a native NYer. Grew up in the area. The beauty never ceases to amaze me. As a veteran found this location and am so happy. My sis lives in Highland Falls, so it’s close by and it was nice inviting her for a walk and breakfast.Even if you’re from NY, definitely visit. You won’t be disappointed.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💯

Mar 07, 2022 · Golden Hour TravelersAway from everything and in the woods around the lake. We have tmobile and only a few spots had connectivity. Spot 17 is really good. There is only one shower and restroom bldg and can be a far walk for spots on other side of lake. Only water and electric hook ups for RV spots with 1 dump station near the showers. The laundry is adjacent to showers and is pay $1.75. There are boats to rent and a swimming area. Places to hike as well. Very quiet. Some sites require leveling. There is a small store on site and a manned office. A care taker is on site 24 hrs. RV Sites ring around the lake and some are up high on the hill. Military ID is required for access. Great place for under $30 a night.
Aug 24, 2022 · ronald hinkleGreat place to camp at super cheap prices. I paid 24$ for my tent campsite. The site had a fire ring, grill, and picnic table setup for use. The campground is very clean and has everything you could need for a few days of good camping. There is a lake at the campground with all sorts of toys for rent at very cheap pricing.
May 27, 2024 · ChrisQuiet rustic location to camp that is available only to the active and veteran military. We enjoyed our stay and would love to visit again. To access campgrounds may be white-knuckling for RV drivers. The very narrow, no-shoulders road is a 4%-6% uphill grade for about one mile. To my knowledge, it is the only access to enter and exit. Note: trying to arrive after dark may be an intimidating drive, especially for large-size RVs.Once you enter the campgrounds the road flattens but the roads to the campsites are still narrow and one-way direction I assume because of narrowness. However, campsites have built-in serenity. Partial hookup with 30 amp and water only. Typical Sites fit RV and second vehicles very easily including tow dolly.Plenty of outdoor opportunities on campgrounds, and local things to see and visit nearby besides seeing West Point.A recommendation is to visit the Bethel Woods Museum where the famous 1969 Woodstock Concert was held. It's 1 hour away. FYI, the Woodstock concert was not held in Woodstock, NY. It is in Bethel Woods, NY.To the Chief Interior Director (i.e., wives or partners 😀), if you need to pick up supplies and goodies, I recommend visiting Walmart, etc before arriving. I didn't see one nearby.Enjoy
