Buckeye Campground

Bridgeport, CA 93517, USA

4.0
Since it is a primitive campsite (no water, no electric, pit toilets) I’m rating the “rooms” as campsites and “service “ as the camp host. It’s a very remote location, 5 hours from the Bay Area over the Sonora pass, but I love it for the peace and serenity. The area is beautiful with great hiking. The camp host is friendly and helpful. Many of the sites are near the stream that runs through. At 7,000 feet elevation the temperature is moderate even when it’s stifling down in the valleys. The lack of amenities keeps the crowds down. I hesitate to post this review since I don’t want to reveal the secret. The Buckeye Hot Springs are on the grounds. Really nice pool with hot temps. Unfortunately everyone seems to know about it so usually crowded. The town of Bridgeport is 15 minutes away, and offers options for restocking. The gas stations are ridiculously overpriced however. So much so that I drove 40 minutes into Nevada to get cheaper gas. - Tom Lang

Buckeye Campground Introduce

Welcome to Buckeye Campground, a true hidden gem for those seeking an authentic outdoor experience in the breathtaking Eastern Sierra. Located at Bridgeport, CA 93517, USA, this primitive campsite offers a unique blend of rugged beauty, tranquility, and access to natural wonders. As a featured destination on "Camping Near Me," Buckeye Campground provides a distinctive opportunity for local users to connect with nature, offering not just a place to stay, but an immersive outdoor adventure.

For outdoor enthusiasts utilizing the "Camping Near Me" platform, Buckeye Campground aligns perfectly with the desire for genuine wilderness experiences. Unlike highly developed campgrounds, Buckeye embraces its primitive nature, making it ideal for those who appreciate simplicity and self-reliance. This approach to camping is a core service, providing a raw and unfiltered connection to the environment. The availability of firewood bundles for purchase directly from the host further enhances the convenience for campers, ensuring they can enjoy the quintessential campfire experience. While not a retail store in the traditional sense, the campground offers essential "goods" in the form of a well-maintained site and a welcoming atmosphere, all supported by a helpful camp host.

The environment at Buckeye Campground is its most compelling feature. Situated at an elevation of 7,000 feet, the temperatures remain moderate even when the valleys below are stifling, offering a comfortable escape during warmer months. The surrounding landscape is exceptionally beautiful, characterized by towering trees and the soothing presence of a stream that winds its way through many of the campsites. This natural setting provides an unparalleled backdrop for relaxation and outdoor activities. Many sites are strategically positioned near the stream, allowing campers to fall asleep to the gentle sounds of flowing water. The remote location, approximately five hours from the Bay Area over the picturesque Sonora Pass, contributes significantly to its peaceful and serene ambiance, effectively keeping larger crowds at bay. Access to the campground is via a dirt road, which is generally well-maintained, though vigilance for loose rocks in certain spots is advised. Depending on the season, alternative routes, such as from Twin Lakes, may be necessary if the road from 395 is closed.

Services at Buckeye Campground are tailored to its primitive nature, focusing on essential provisions and a friendly, supportive atmosphere. While there's no running water or electricity, the campground offers well-maintained vault toilets. These facilities are kept remarkably clean, with the camp host regularly restocking toilet paper – a testament to their dedication. For water needs, campers are advised to bring their own supply, but a convenient solution exists: nearby campsites down Twin Lakes road offer options for refilling water as needed. This thoughtful local knowledge, often shared by the camp host, is a valuable service. Speaking of the host, they are consistently praised for their friendliness and helpfulness, often stopping by for a chat to ensure everything is going well. This personal touch significantly enhances the camping experience. Payment for campsite fees and any extra vehicle parking is cash-only, a detail to remember for preparation. The phone number for inquiries is (760) 932-7070 or +1 760-932-7070.

Buckeye Campground boasts several distinctive features that set it apart. Perhaps the most notable is the presence of the Buckeye Hot Springs directly on the grounds. These natural hot springs offer a wonderfully warm pool, providing a unique opportunity for relaxation and rejuvenation after a day of hiking or exploring. While the hot springs can sometimes be crowded due to their popularity, their accessibility directly from the campground is a significant draw. The campground itself offers a diverse selection of sites, accommodating both RVs and tents, providing flexibility for different camping preferences. A major plus for many campers is that Buckeye Campground is dog-friendly, allowing furry companions to join in on the adventure. This inclusive policy makes it an ideal destination for pet owners seeking to share their outdoor experiences with their dogs. The area surrounding the campground is ripe with opportunities for great hiking, catering to outdoor enthusiasts looking to explore the natural beauty of the Eastern Sierra.

For those looking for a serene and less crowded camping experience, Buckeye Campground offers a compelling promotional message: escape the hustle and bustle and reconnect with nature in a truly pristine setting. Its primitive nature acts as a natural filter, attracting those who genuinely appreciate quietude and self-sufficiency. The presence of the Buckeye Hot Springs adds an unparalleled element of unique relaxation. While remote, the town of Bridgeport is only 15 minutes away, providing options for restocking supplies, though campers should be aware that gas prices in Bridgeport can be quite high, making a longer drive to Nevada for cheaper fuel a consideration for some. This proximity offers a convenient balance between wilderness immersion and access to basic necessities, making Buckeye Campground an ideal base for exploring the Eastern Sierra. For those searching "Camping Near Me" with a desire for an authentic, dog-friendly, and naturally beautiful escape, Buckeye Campground truly delivers a memorable and refreshing outdoor adventure.
