Hunewill's Doc and Al's Resort offers a wide array of services and features, designed to cater to various camping and lodging preferences, making it a versatile choice for anyone searching for "Camping Near Me":
Lodging Options: The resort boasts a diverse range of accommodations:
Cabins: These range from "rustic cabins" that provide a step up from tent camping with basic comforts like beds, a fridge, and outdoor cooking setups, to beautifully updated "Creekside cabins" like "The Pines." These updated cabins offer modern amenities, comfortable and clean beds, very nice bathrooms, and often include full kitchens (though some cooking utensils/cookware might be older), BBQs, picnic tables, and private fire pits. Many cabins feature decks overlooking Robinson Creek, providing a perfect spot for relaxation and enjoyment of the views. During peak season (June-August), Creekside cabins often rent for a 7-night minimum (Sunday through Sunday), while other times and for other cabin types, a two-night minimum is required.
Vintage Trailer Rentals: The resort offers on-site, antique trailers for rent. These are a unique and comfortable option, providing a sheltered and cozy place to sleep after a day of adventure, often equipped with their own kitchen and bathroom, outdoor picnic table, and private fire pit.
RV Spots: Spacious "back-in RV spots" are available, complete with full hookups (water, sewer, and 30-amp electric service). Each RV site includes a private fire pit and picnic table, allowing guests to set up their rig and enjoy the surroundings. These spots are popular and typically require a two-night minimum stay.
Dry Camping/Campsites: For those who prefer traditional tent camping or dry camping, the resort offers grassy campsites, each equipped with a private fire pit and picnic table. These sites offer easy access to community bathrooms and dumpsters.
Guest Services & Amenities:
Clean Restrooms and Showers: The resort provides clean, centrally located restrooms that are open 24/7 (with temporary closures for cleaning). Coin-operated showers are also available, a crucial convenience for campers and cabin guests without private facilities.
Laundry Facility: A 24/7 laundry room is available, allowing guests to keep their clothes clean during longer stays, especially useful for those engaging in outdoor activities.
General Store/Lodge: The lodge serves as a central point for check-in and potentially offers a gift shop. While specific details on a full general store are not always explicit in reviews, similar resorts in the area often have them, providing basic supplies. Waivers for all guests are available at the lodge or via a guest portal.
Direct Fishing Access: A major draw, the resort offers direct access to Robinson Creek, which is a prime trout fishing spot. The "deck overlooking Robinson creek and right next to one of our favorite fishing spots" highlights this key feature.
Recreational Facilities: On-site amenities for recreation include horse shoes, volleyball, foosball, ping pong, and a pool table, providing entertainment options for all ages.
Fish Cleaning Station: For anglers, a dedicated fish cleaning station is a valuable amenity, ensuring cleanliness and convenience.
Wi-Fi: While not always complimentary, Wi-Fi is available for purchase, allowing guests to stay connected if desired.
Pet-Friendly: As a pet-friendly campground, it accommodates guests traveling with their furry companions, adding to its family-oriented appeal.
Ownership and Management: The resort is now owned and managed by the Hunewill family, known for their long history in the Bridgeport Valley (since the 1860s) and their operation of the Hunewill Guest Ranch. This new ownership has brought "cabin updates" that have "improved the experience so much," and the owners/managers are described as "delightful, polite, and helpful."
The recreational features surrounding Hunewill's Doc and Al's Resort are abundant, solidifying its position as an ideal choice for "Camping Near Me" in the Eastern Sierra:
Legendary Trout Fishing: With Robinson Creek flowing directly through the property and Twin Lakes just minutes away, the resort is a haven for anglers. Robinson Creek is well-stocked with rainbow trout, and Twin Lakes are famous for their prolific trout populations, including trophy-sized brown trout. Guests can fish directly from the creek bank near their cabin or campsite, or venture to the lakes for boating and shore fishing.
Hiking and Exploration: The surrounding area is a nature lover's dream, offering countless opportunities for hiking. Access to the Hoover Wilderness Area and various trails provides options for all skill levels, from leisurely walks along the creek to challenging mountain excursions. The scenic beauty, with towering pines and mountain views, makes every hike a rewarding experience.
Water Sports: Proximity to Twin Lakes means guests can enjoy kayaking, canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding, and other boating activities on the calm alpine waters.
Wildlife Viewing: The natural setting provides opportunities to observe local wildlife, including deer and various bird species.
Nearby Attractions: The resort serves as an excellent base for exploring other regional attractions, including natural hot springs, historic ghost towns like Bodie State Historic Park, and the scenic beauty of Mono Lake.
For promotional information within the "Camping Near Me" category, Hunewill's Doc and Al's Resort offers a compelling package. Its blend of traditional camping with comfortable cabin and trailer rentals makes it attractive to a broad audience, from rustic adventurers to those seeking a "glamping" experience. The recent updates to the cabins are a strong selling point, demonstrating a commitment to guest comfort. The consistent praise for the friendly and helpful owners/managers highlights the quality of service. Emphasizing the "timeless and priceless" nature of the resort, its direct access to exceptional trout fishing on Robinson Creek, and the stunning natural environment ("middle of God's beautiful creation") resonates deeply with potential visitors. Promotional messaging should clearly outline the various accommodation types, their amenities, and any minimum stay requirements (e.g., 7-night minimum for Creekside cabins in peak season, 2-night minimum for all other sites). Mentioning its pet-friendly policy and the available on-site recreational activities further enhances its appeal. Given its popularity and the Hunewill family's reputation, early booking, especially for cabins during peak season, is highly recommended (2025 reservations are already open!). Hunewill's Doc and Al's Resort Reviews
An amazing place to stay in the middle of God’s beautiful creation. The Pines cabin was beautifully updated throughout and the beds are comfortable and clean. The bathroom is very nice and comfortable. The kitchen cabinets and sink/stove/counters could use some updating too as well as updated utensils, plates, cookware, etc but this place was in dire need of updating and I’m aware that money isn’t limitless. The updates they made were badly needed and more than good enough! We loved the deck overlooking Robinson creek and right next to one of our favorite fishing spots! This place is timeless and priceless. The owners and managers were delightful, polite, and helpful. Can’t wait for next year!
