Buckland Flats Campground Introduce
For local users in search of "camping near me" that offers a more secluded and remote experience, Buckland Flats Campground, located off FR 138 in Bountiful, UT 84010, USA, presents an intriguing option. Based on the available user reviews, this campground offers a unique opportunity to escape into nature, albeit with certain considerations regarding accessibility and the camping environment itself.
One of the primary characteristics highlighted by visitors is the natural beauty of the location. Buckland Flats Campground is described as a "beautiful place to get away," suggesting that the surrounding environment offers scenic views and a sense of tranquility. The sentiment that "everything's so much prettier far away" implies that the campground's more remote setting contributes to its aesthetic appeal, potentially offering vistas and natural landscapes less impacted by human development. For those seeking a respite from urban noise and a chance to immerse themselves in nature, Buckland Flats might offer the desired escape.
However, prospective visitors should be aware of the reported challenges regarding access. One reviewer explicitly states that "the road is rough but worth it," indicating that reaching Buckland Flats Campground may require a vehicle capable of handling uneven terrain. This suggests that lower-clearance vehicles might encounter difficulties, and those planning a trip should consider the road conditions and the suitability of their vehicle. The reward for navigating this rough road, according to the reviewer, is the beauty and serenity of the destination.
Adding to the remoteness, another user mentions that "the higher you go the less you hear," reinforcing the idea that Buckland Flats offers a quieter environment away from the noise of more developed areas. This could be a significant draw for campers seeking peace and solitude in nature. The opportunity to experience a more natural soundscape, undisturbed by human activity, can be a key element of a wilderness camping experience.
Despite the allure of its beauty and potential tranquility, there are also practical considerations that local users searching for "camping near me" should be aware of. One reviewer notes a significant change in the camping situation, stating, "You have to camp on the road. Enormous rocks now block where you used to be able to go." This is a crucial piece of information, suggesting that traditional campsite areas may no longer be accessible due to natural obstructions. Camping directly on the road could imply a less defined or less comfortable camping experience, potentially with limited space and proximity to vehicle traffic, however infrequent.
Furthermore, the same reviewer mentions that "the dust covers all of you and your gear." This suggests that the environment at Buckland Flats Campground can be quite dusty, potentially impacting the comfort and cleanliness of campers and their equipment. This is a practical consideration for those planning to bring sensitive gear or who prefer a cleaner camping environment.
Based on the limited information, it appears that Buckland Flats Campground offers a primitive camping experience in a potentially beautiful but somewhat challenging environment. The "rough road" access and the need to camp on the road due to obstructions indicate that this is likely not a developed campground with designated campsites and amenities. Local users considering this location should be prepared for a more rustic and self-sufficient camping style.
Given the lack of information about specific services or features, it's reasonable to assume that Buckland Flats Campground does not offer typical campground amenities such as restrooms, water sources, or maintained fire pits. Campers should likely plan to be entirely self-reliant, bringing their own water, cooking equipment, and waste disposal bags, and adhering strictly to Leave No Trace principles to preserve the natural environment.
Similarly, no promotional information is available from the provided reviews. Local users interested in camping at Buckland Flats should focus on gathering more information about the current accessibility, potential restrictions, and any regulations governing camping in the area. Contacting the relevant land management agency, such as the U.S. Forest Service, which likely manages the area given the "FR" (Forest Road) designation in the address, would be crucial to obtain accurate and up-to-date details.
In conclusion, Buckland Flats Campground, while described as a "beautiful place to get away" with the potential for peace and quiet, presents a raw and challenging camping experience. The rough road access, the necessity of roadside camping due to obstructions, and the presence of dust are important factors for local users searching for "camping near me" to consider. This location seems best suited for experienced campers who are well-prepared for primitive conditions and prioritize remoteness and natural beauty over developed amenities. Thorough research and preparation are strongly recommended before planning a trip to Buckland Flats Campground.

Apr 30, 2025 · Dennis BartonVery secluded not. They call it a campground it’s a wide spot next to the road, plenty of room for half dozen rigs. Apparently years ago it was a nice place had bathrooms and actual numbered camp sites. I’ve been going there for 30 years and it’s never had so much as a garbage can to throw target trash away. I spend 15 minutes picking up target trash every time I come down the mountain and I’m up there a dozen times a month. But it’s still free with beautiful views and for rock hunting or camping it 20 minutes to the city.
Jul 23, 2023 · Mike EvansI came here yesterday and was absolutely blown away!!! The drive up is about 30 minutes and can be done with any size car (as long as you aren’t pulling something extremely heavy). The drive is gorgeous and so is the campsite itself. Plenty of trees around the area. Lots of areas to camp in the campsite and nearby. There is even a hiking trail in the area too. Great alternative to those who don’t want to go all the way up to Bountiful Peak Campground!
