Based on customer reviews, Calef Lake Campground is described as "very clean and friendly." This is a great starting point for local users seeking a comfortable and welcoming environment. One reviewer particularly highlighted the abundance of activities available for children, making it an attractive option for families. These activities include a playground and a "very clean beach" suitable for swimming, allowing kids to have plenty of fun and stay active during their camping trip.
For those who enjoy water-based recreation, Calef Lake itself offers fishing opportunities, and the campground provides boat rentals, allowing you to explore the lake at your leisure. This is a significant feature for those who love to be on the water, whether for relaxation or sport. Additionally, the presence of a store onsite is a convenient amenity, offering everything you might need if you happen to forget something essential for your camping trip. The campground also provides a practical service with trash pickup at your site multiple times a day, contributing to the overall cleanliness and convenience of your stay.
Another reviewer chose Calef Lake Campground primarily due to its proximity to Canobie Lake Park, a local amusement park, indicating its convenient location for those planning to visit nearby attractions. This reviewer described the campground environment as "very wooded and rustic," which may appeal to those seeking a more natural and traditional camping experience. They also noted the potential of the campground but pointed out an area for improvement: the appearance of some seasonal camper sites. While acknowledging that some seasonal sites were well-maintained, they observed that "most of them looked terrible," contrasting with the "nice" transient sites. Despite this aesthetic concern, the reviewer found the staff and the seasonal campers they met to be "very nice." They also commented positively on the quality and fair price of the firewood available. Overall, this reviewer stated they "would love to stay here again" but hoped for an improvement in the upkeep of the seasonal sites.
Considering the feedback, Calef Lake Campground offers several appealing features for local users:
- A clean and friendly atmosphere.
- Plenty of activities for children, including a playground.
- A very clean beach for swimming in Calef Lake.
- Fishing opportunities in the lake.
- Boat rentals available for lake exploration.
- An onsite store for forgotten essentials.
- Convenient trash pickup at your campsite.
- A wooded and rustic environment.
- Friendly staff and seasonal campers.
- Good quality firewood at a fair price.
- Proximity to attractions like Canobie Lake Park.
However, potential visitors should also be aware of the comment regarding the varying appearance of the seasonal campsites, which one reviewer found detracted from the overall aesthetic despite the niceness of the transient areas. This suggests that while the core amenities and services are well-regarded, the visual appeal of some parts of the campground might not be consistent.
For local families looking for a "camping near me" option with lake access, a clean beach for swimming, activities for children, and convenient amenities like an onsite store, Calef Lake Campground presents a compelling choice. The positive remarks about cleanliness and friendliness further enhance its appeal. The proximity to Canobie Lake Park also makes it a practical base for those planning a visit to the amusement park.
While no specific promotional offers were mentioned in the reviews, the positive feedback regarding the facilities, activities, and friendly atmosphere serves as a strong implicit endorsement. The fact that a reviewer, despite noting an aesthetic issue, still expressed a desire to return suggests that the overall experience at Calef Lake Campground is generally positive and enjoyable.
In conclusion, Calef Lake Campground in Auburn, NH, offers a clean and friendly environment with a focus on family activities and lakeside recreation. Local users searching for "camping near me" with a beach, swimming, fishing, and boat rentals will find much to appreciate here. Calef Lake Campground Reviews
Very clean and friendly campground. Always activities for the kiddos. Playground, very clean beach for swimming. Fishing ability, boat rentals. Store has everything you need if you forget something. Trash pick up at site multiple times a day.
Apr 27, 2025 · Victoria PopeThis campground was close to Canobie, which is why we chose it. It is very wooded and rustic. It has so much potential, but it looks terrible because of their seasonal campers. Most of the seasonal sites looked terrible. Some were kept very nice, but not most of them. The transient sites were nice. The staff and seasonal campers we met were very nice. Wood was good and a fair price. I would love to stay here again, but they really need to have their seasonals clean up their sites.
Oct 14, 2024 · Jennifer MaitlandThis is my opinion and should be taken as such. This was a pleasant trip for us. We stayed on site R11. If you choose this site, be sure to be skilled at backing in, and also have a 28 foot and under. The road is super tight. There are tree ls lining the whole route of the campground. The staff was kind. We met some nice seasonal couples. This place seems to be 90 percent seasonal.
Oct 08, 2024 · Jody BatesThis is not a campground, this is a trailer park for city people who can’t afford a camp. It also has short-term (what normals call camp sites) RV and tent sites which are puked between the trailer park tenants allowing you to hear the drunk residents scream all night and view their obnoxious lights.Don’t “camp” here. This place should be closed to the public. PS pic is of one of the secluded sites
Dec 02, 2024 · Z BWe stayed here in late August in our RV. Had full hookups. The staff was friendly and the bathrooms/showers were always clean. Was very ROWDY on Saturday night: live band and lots of fireworks, so if you like that, then this campground is for you. Most of the campground is seasonal campers that have been in place for a while. The owners should have the seasonal campers maintain their sites better imo.
