Camp J. C. Stimson Introduce
For local users seeking "camping near me" options, it's important to note that Camp J. C. Stimson, located on Deer Creek Rd in Las Vegas, NV, is a unique facility. Information available online indicates that this is a private youth camp operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Therefore, it is primarily intended for use by church-affiliated youth groups and may not be open to the general public for individual camping or RV stays.
While access for general "camping near me" searches might be limited, the available information, particularly a review from a past attendee, sheds light on the environment, significant renovations, and features of Camp J. C. Stimson, which could be valuable for local church groups or those interested in understanding youth camping facilities in the area.
A Transformation Over Time:
A notable aspect of Camp J. C. Stimson is the "amazing renovations that have occurred" over the years. A former camper who attended over 30 years ago expressed astonishment at the transformation. This suggests a significant upgrade from more rustic camping conditions to more developed facilities. The review highlights a shift from "raking the ground before setting up your own tent" to the provision of "canvas tents on slabs." This indicates the establishment of more permanent and comfortable tent structures, likely offering better protection from the elements and a more organized camping experience.
Enhanced Sleeping Arrangements:
Further enhancing the comfort level are the provisions for sleeping. The renovated camp now includes "cots to sleep off the ground on!" This is a significant improvement over sleeping directly on the ground and likely contributes to a more restful and hygienic camping experience for the youth attending the camp.
Modernized Cooking Facilities:
Another major upgrade is the introduction of a "cooking Pavillion." This is described as a "big shock" compared to the previous method of "cooking all our meals as we learned how to make a campfire." The presence of a dedicated cooking pavilion suggests a centralized and likely better-equipped area for meal preparation, potentially including features like countertops, sinks, and possibly even cooking appliances provided by the camp. This would greatly streamline the process of feeding larger groups of campers and potentially offer a safer and more controlled environment for food preparation compared to individual campfires.
Environment and Potential Features (Based on Type of Camp):
As a youth camp, Camp J. C. Stimson is likely situated in a natural environment suitable for outdoor activities. While the specific details of the terrain, vegetation, or proximity to water bodies are not provided in the limited information, youth camps typically prioritize locations that offer space for recreation, exploration, and learning in an outdoor setting. Given its location in the Las Vegas area, it might be situated in a more desert-like environment with specific adaptations for the climate, such as shaded areas or facilities to manage heat.
Based on the nature of a youth camp, particularly one associated with a religious organization, Camp J. C. Stimson likely offers more than just basic camping facilities. It probably includes:
- Group Camping Areas: Designed to accommodate multiple youth groups and leaders.
- Recreational Spaces: Areas for games, sports, and other organized activities.
- Meeting or Gathering Areas: Spaces for group sessions, lessons, or religious services.
- Trained Staff or Leaders: Individuals responsible for the supervision and guidance of the campers.
- Safety and Security Measures: Protocols and facilities to ensure the well-being of the youth.
- Potential for Educational or Spiritual Programs: Activities tailored to the mission and values of the sponsoring organization.
Services and Amenities (Inferred):
While specific services are not detailed, we can infer some likely amenities based on the description and the nature of a renovated youth camp:
- Canvas Tents on Slabs: Providing more permanent and comfortable shelter.
- Cots: Elevated sleeping arrangements for better comfort.
- Cooking Pavilion: A centralized facility for meal preparation.
- Restroom Facilities: Likely modern and well-maintained to serve a large group of campers.
- Water Access: Readily available water sources for drinking and hygiene.
- Waste Disposal: Designated areas for trash collection.
- First Aid Facilities: Basic medical provisions for minor injuries.
- Activity Areas: Spaces for various group activities and recreation.
Features (Inferred):
- Structured Camping Experience: Likely involving organized activities and schedules.
- Group-Oriented: Designed for accommodating and facilitating group interactions.
- Focus on Youth Development: Programs and activities aimed at personal growth, learning, and potentially spiritual development.
- Secure Environment: Measures in place to ensure the safety and supervision of minors.
- Potential for Nature Exploration: Opportunities to experience the outdoors in a structured and safe manner.
Promotional Information:
As Camp J. C. Stimson is a private youth camp, it does not typically engage in public promotion in the same way a commercial campground would. Its use is primarily communicated within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to its youth organizations and leaders. Therefore, there is no readily available promotional material for the general public. Information about booking or availability would likely be disseminated through church channels to the relevant youth groups and organizers.
Contact Information:
The provided contact information includes a phone number: (702) 334-6290 and a mobile phone number: +1 702-334-6290. These numbers are likely for administrative purposes related to the camp's operation within the church organization. Inquiries about potential use by affiliated groups would likely be directed through these channels.
In summary, Camp J. C. Stimson is not a typical public campground for those searching for general "camping near me." It is a private youth camp associated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints that has undergone significant renovations to provide enhanced facilities for its young attendees, including canvas tents on slabs, cots, and a cooking pavilion. While not available for public booking, its transformation highlights the investment in providing a positive and modern camping experience for youth within the church community in the Las Vegas area.

Camp J. C. Stimson Reviews
I went here for camp 30+ years ago. The amazing renovations that have occurred are mind blowing. Went from raking thr ground before setting up your own tent to these canvas tents on slabs. They even had cots to sleep off the ground on! The cooking Pavillion was a big shock compared to cooking all our meals as we learned how to make a campfire.
