Camp Neofa Introduce
Looking for a distinct camping opportunity in your local area? Camp Neofa, situated at 213 Trotting Park Rd, Montville, ME 04941, offers a unique setting with a rich history. While originally established as a stay-away camp for children aged 9-14 by the Northeastern Odd Fellows Association in the early 1950s, Camp Neofa, located on the shores of Trues Pond, is now available for rental by outside groups, making it a noteworthy option within the 'camping near me' category for those seeking a group-oriented experience with a touch of history and natural beauty.
The very foundation of Camp Neofa is intertwined with the Northeastern Odd Fellows Association, a fraternal organization that purchased the Liberty Fairgrounds to establish the camp on the picturesque Trues Pond. This historical context adds a layer of character to the location, suggesting a long-standing tradition of community and connection with the land. The camp's establishment on the shore of Trues Pond immediately highlights its prime lakeside environment, offering potential for water-based activities and scenic views for any group that chooses to rent the facilities.
Recent efforts by the Odd Fellows Association to update the dam for Trues Pond have significantly enhanced the natural features of the area. This thoughtful renovation has created a wonderful fishing spot, promising opportunities for anglers within your group to enjoy the pastime. Furthermore, the updated dam has also fostered the development of a marsh area, which now teems with local wildlife, including snapping turtles, various fish species, and a diverse array of birds. This ecological enhancement makes Camp Neofa an attractive destination for nature enthusiasts and those interested in observing local fauna in their natural habitat.
The reviews from individuals who have a personal history with Camp Neofa offer valuable insights into the enduring appeal of the location. One reviewer fondly recalls spending formative years at the camp, first as a camper and later as a counselor, emphasizing the positive impact it had on their life and the lasting friendships forged there. This personal testimony speaks to the potential for Camp Neofa to create a strong sense of community and shared experience for any group utilizing its facilities.
Another review highlights the remarkable preservation of the camp over the years, noting that despite the passage of time, much of the original charm and atmosphere remains intact. This sense of timelessness can be a significant draw for groups seeking a camping experience with a nostalgic or traditional feel. While some aspects, such as specific camp songs, may have evolved, the overall essence of Camp Neofa as a positive and memorable place seems to have endured.
The fact that the camp is now available for rental by outside groups opens up a range of possibilities for local users. It could serve as an ideal location for family reunions, group retreats, organizational outings, or any gathering looking for a unique setting with access to a lake and natural surroundings. The existing infrastructure, developed over decades as a children's camp, likely includes accommodation facilities, communal spaces, and potentially recreational areas suitable for group activities. However, specific details about the types and capacity of these facilities would need to be obtained through direct inquiry.

Given its history as a children's camp, Camp Neofa likely offers a safe and structured environment. The lakeside location on Trues Pond provides opportunities for water-related activities, although it's crucial to inquire about safety regulations and any available equipment such as canoes or kayaks. The updated fishing spot is a significant feature for those who enjoy angling, and the surrounding marsh area offers potential for nature observation and educational opportunities for groups of all ages.

Jul 28, 2023 · Dylan MerrifoxI spent a lot of time here growing up. I started going here when I was 11 years old back in the 80's right after my Mother died back in 1984.The 10 years of attending this camp as both a camper and a counselor, were probably some of the best summers of my life. The friends I made there are still friends of mine to this day and some of the best people I have ever known.About a year and a half back, my wife and I had the opportunity to let our 3 children attend the camp. We almost did not get a chance to go because of last minute financial problems, but the director Keith Ploof sponsored our three children and we made the trip to Maine. When we dropped the kids off, I had a chance to walk around and reminisce a little. I was shocked to see that not much had changed. It is amazing to me how a place can remain untouched by so many years. Sure, the rules have changed a little, and I was a little disappointed that they do not sing the camp song I grew up with. Overall though, it was just as amazing as I remembered.Definitely a positive experience for any kids who goes.
Aug 14, 2024 · Kevin AlleyI CANNOT say enough great things about Camp Neofa!! My two girls ages 11 and 9 , and myself were a bit hesitant and unsure how it would go, they had never been to a summer camp, and never spent many overnights away from home...( besides with family&close friends) but it was a HUGE success. They are already talking about going next summer for the full 4 weeks instead of 2! The counselors and staff made a huge impact on my girls, they are all simply amazing people with huge hearts, whom all played the biggest role in making my girls have such a wonderful, positive experience. The impact they made is one my girls and myself will never forget. They truly are the ones who ensured this was a memorable, fun and exciting adventure! Of course they made a ton of new camper friends as well that they are hoping to see again next summer! THANK YOU SO MUCH to all the counselors and staff of Camp Neofa, for making my kids first overnight camp experience so wonderful. They cant wait to go back!! I would 100% recommend bringing your kids here, it is an absolutely amazing place!
