Northport Campground Introduce
If you're searching for "camping near me" in the Northport, Maine area, Northport Campground, located at 14 Chelsea, Northport, ME 04849, USA, presents an option with both positive historical mentions and more recent concerns based on online reviews. You can contact them at (207) 338-2077 or +1 207-338-2077 for inquiries.
According to earlier feedback, Northport Campground was considered a "very nice campground." One reviewer mentioned a positive experience with their Girl Scout troop, noting the kindness of the Knight family who own and run the campground. While the playground was suggested for a potential upgrade by the children, they still enjoyed their time. The availability of grates for cooking was also mentioned, requiring a request at the office.
However, a more recent and detailed review paints a less favorable picture, indicating a potential decline in the campground's maintenance and management. This updated review acknowledges the appealing aspects of the campground, such as the "almost full hook-up grassy sites" (lacking cable TV) and its convenient location near Camden, the Maine coast, and the popular Young's Lobster Pound. These features suggest a potentially attractive base for exploring the scenic mid-coast region of Maine and enjoying fresh seafood.
Despite these locational advantages and the nature of the campsites, the updated review expresses significant disappointment with the current state of the campground. The reviewer recounts an unsettling check-in experience with an older man who appeared to be intoxicated. Furthermore, a logistical issue arose with one of their two reserved campsites lacking a site number, causing confusion within their group. The campground's policy of not offering discounts to seniors or other typical groups was also noted.
The most significant concern raised in the updated review pertains to the condition of the bathrooms, described as being in a state of disrepair. The reviewer detailed the absence of essential amenities such as paper towels and soap. More alarmingly, they reported visible damage to the physical structure of the men's room, including drywall pulled off the walls and a large section of wallboard resting inside a shower stall. This description raises serious questions about the current upkeep and cleanliness of the campground's facilities.
Adding to the negative experience, the reviewer mentioned an unusual and concerning incident involving a delayed check cashing. A check written in September 2016 was reportedly not cashed until eleven months later, which the reviewer found to be a "nice surprise" in a negative way. It was also noted that the campground operates on a cash or check-only basis, not accepting other forms of payment.
Based on this updated and detailed account, the reviewer concluded that they would not be returning to Northport Campground unless significant improvements are made. This perspective underscores the importance of considering the more recent feedback alongside any positive historical mentions.
For local users searching for "camping near me" and considering Northport Campground, it is crucial to weigh the potential benefits of its location and grassy sites against the reported issues with maintenance, particularly concerning the bathroom facilities, and the unusual financial practices mentioned. The proximity to popular destinations like Camden and Young's Lobster Pound could still make it a geographically desirable option for some.
However, the reported state of the bathrooms and the unprofessional check-in experience are significant red flags that potential campers should carefully consider. It might be prudent to inquire directly with the campground management about the current condition of the facilities and their operational practices before making a reservation. Given the stark contrast between the earlier positive feedback and the more recent negative review, there may have been changes in the campground's management or upkeep standards.
The grassy sites with "almost full hook-ups" (water, electricity, and sewer, but no cable) could still appeal to RV owners and those preferring a more traditional camping setup. The location's convenience to coastal attractions remains a potential draw for tourists looking to explore the region. However, the quality of the basic amenities, such as clean and functional restrooms, is a fundamental expectation for most campers.
In conclusion, Northport Campground offers a potentially convenient location for exploring the Maine coast and nearby attractions, with grassy sites that include hook-ups. However, recent reviews raise serious concerns about the maintenance of the facilities, particularly the bathrooms, as well as potential issues with customer service and financial transactions. Local users searching for "camping near me" should carefully consider these factors and perhaps seek more up-to-date information before deciding to book a stay at Northport Campground.

Northport Campground Reviews
Very nice camp ground. My Girl Scout Troop enjoyed our time there. Play ground could use a little upgrade according to the girls but they still had fun. Grates are available you just need to ask in the office. The Knight family that owns and runs it were very kind.
Aug 09, 2017 · Jennifer BragdonUPDATED: We have stayed at this campground a number of times - It used to be very well maintained and run. While we love the almost full hook-up grassy sites (no cable) and the location to Camden, the Maine coast and Young's Lobster pound, I am disappointed to report that some of the recent reviews are true. The older man who checked in our party had been drinking to say the least. There was no number on one of the 2 campsites we reserved causing an issue with our own group. The campground offers no discount to seniors, or the normal groups. But the reason I went in and changed this review was the bathrooms- You have to be kidding! What a dump! Forget the fact that there was no paper towels or even soap- drywall was pulled off the wall in much of the men's room and a large section of a wall board was resting in a shower stall- We will come back to see if things improve but this place needs attention now.By the way- It took these people 11 months to cash a check that I wrote last September 2016. Nice surprise. Cash or check is all they take by the way. No. We won't be going back.
Aug 19, 2017 · Gary LeeHere's my 5 year rview of Northport Campground in Northport, MEWe stayed here in 2019 and at that time the owner said he was going to be updating and clearning up the campground. The pool had been closed and the bathroom/shower house was disgusting with black "mold" or something around the edges of the shower floors. We had been assurred that these things were going to be taken care of.We stayed here for 8 nights! At the rate they charged, ($60/night), it is a shame and if we could have gotten a refund and gone elsewhere, we would have!!Although their website says "Clean indoor rest rooms with flush toilets and hot water. Hot showers," not one thing has been remodeled or fixed since we had been here 5 years ago. There is no way I or my husband would shower in these showers. There is no office, there is no laundry room, there is no wifi. The trash dumpster hasn't been emptied since we got here and when we arrived it was already almost full! There is one "permanent" mobile home that looks like it's ready to fall off its "foundation". They have a food truck in front of some of the worst, trashiest area behind it and next to his house. This beautiful piece of property has deteriorated badly. It had about 10 RVs, and only about 3 had any people. All the rest looked like they were being stored here!My advice is stay away. No matter how nice the owner was, the campground is a rip-off.
