Camp Okeechobee Introduce
For local users seeking a diverse and accommodating "camping near me" experience in South Florida, Camp Okeechobee, located at 6537 48th St NE, Okeechobee, FL 34972, USA, presents a compelling option. This campground caters to both RV and tent campers, a notable feature among private campgrounds, and offers a range of amenities and activities that make it an attractive destination for various outdoor enthusiasts. Situated in a more secluded setting yet within reasonable driving distance of other South Florida attractions, Camp Okeechobee provides a unique blend of tranquility and adventure.
As a valuable addition to the "camping near me" category, Camp Okeechobee stands out for its recent development and the quality of its facilities. RV owners will appreciate the "brand new campsites" equipped with full 50 amp electrical hookups and water hookups. The convenience of picnic tables and a fire pit at each RV site further enhances the camping experience, providing dedicated spaces for outdoor dining and campfires. The thoughtful design of the campground includes "all pull through" sites, making them easily accessible even for larger vehicles like a 36' toy hauler. While one reviewer noted an initial wetness, they also mentioned that the area dried up quickly, suggesting good drainage. These well-appointed RV sites offer a comfortable and hassle-free base for exploring the Okeechobee region.
A significant advantage of Camp Okeechobee, particularly for those seeking "camping near me" on short notice, is its availability when other campgrounds in South Florida might be fully booked. This flexibility, combined with their willingness to accommodate both RVs and tent campers, makes them a valuable resource for spontaneous getaways or those who prefer different styles of camping. The positive interactions with the staff, specifically mentioning Kevin who assisted with settling in late and even provided firewood (for a fee), highlight the welcoming and helpful service offered at Camp Okeechobee.
The environment of Camp Okeechobee is described as being "out in the middle of no where," which, according to one reviewer, was precisely what they were looking for. This more remote location offers a sense of peace and quiet, allowing guests to truly disconnect and enjoy the natural surroundings. The unexpected presence of cows near the campsites added a touch of rural charm to the experience. While the immediate surroundings might be less developed, the proximity to a shooting range and what is believed to be a motocross track caters to specific recreational interests, making it a unique destination for those who enjoy these activities.
For tent campers seeking "camping near me," Camp Okeechobee provides spacious campsites, each equipped with plenty of room for a tent, a fire ring, and a picnic table. It's important to note that the tent sites do not currently offer water or electric hookups, so campers should plan accordingly. The cost for a tent site, as mentioned by a reviewer, was just over $40 per night with tax. The availability of clean and well-maintained bathhouses is a significant convenience for all campers, ensuring a comfortable stay even without individual hookups at tent sites. The campground's dog-friendly policy (provided pets are well-behaved) is another appealing feature for those who like to travel with their furry companions.
The natural environment of Okeechobee also promises beautiful skies. While one reviewer experienced a cloudy night, they expressed certainty that on a clear night, the stars would be "amazing" due to the less light-polluted location. Additionally, Camp Okeechobee's location, just over an hour away from Phil Foster Memorial Park in Riviera Beach, makes it a convenient base for those interested in snorkeling or exploring other South Florida coastal attractions.
As a "fairly new" campground, Camp Okeechobee is still undergoing development, with plans for future additions. While the specifics of these planned amenities are not detailed in the reviews, the fact that the campground already provides essential facilities and receives positive feedback suggests a promising future. Guests can look forward to potential enhancements that will further enrich the camping experience.

Camp Okeechobee Reviews
We spent a wonderful weekend at Camp Okeechobee last month. We have a 36' toy hauler and we were pleased with the size of the brand new campsites with 50 amp electrical, water hookup, picnic tables and a fire pit. The sites are all pull through and easy to access and although we started off a little wet, the area dried up quickly. The adjoining outdoor gun range is extensive with many lanes and a very friendly staff. Made for a great weekend complete with beautiful sunsets with good friends!
Oct 03, 2021 · Michele RileyMy husband and I were looking for some camping in South Florida and when I say everything was booked, I mean it. Except for Camp Okeechobee. Not only do they cater to RV's AND tent campers, which is rare for private campgrounds and have availability last minute, they were extremely helpful and nice. We arrived pretty late for camping standards at around 5:45 pm and were met by Kevin who helped us get settled in and even grabbed some fire wood for us. (There is a cost for the wood)This place is out in the middle of no where, which is exactly what we were looking for. There were even cows right behind our site which was pretty fun. There is a shooting range and what I believe is a motocross track right next to the campground so it's perfect if you are in to those activities. The camp ground is fairly new and they have not finished with all the things they have planned to put in so keep that in mind, but they had everything we needed. Each campsite had plenty of space for your tent, a fire ring and a picnic table. The cost with tax was just over $40 per night. There are no water or electric hookups at the tent sites, so plan accordingly. I am not sure about the prices of the RV sites. The bath houses were clean and well maintained The campground is also dog friendly, if they mind their manners that is. 😊The sky was a little cloudy that night, but I'm certain on a clear night, the stars would be amazing. We had a really nice and relaxing night here and we are excited about the updates that are coming in the future. We also loved the fact that it was just a little over an hour away from Phil Foster Memorial Park in Riviera where we like to snorkel when we are in South Florida. They've got a really nice place here! We will definitely be back!
