Camp Ryan Introduce
Located at 5 Sunset Trail in New Fairfield, Connecticut, Camp Ryan offers a unique "camping near me" experience, particularly known for its proximity to Candlewood Lake and its enthusiastic celebration of the 4th of July. While the provided reviews offer a glimpse into the atmosphere and some of the amenities, it's important for local users to consider all aspects presented to determine if Camp Ryan aligns with their preferences for a lakeside getaway. Please note that direct contact information for Camp Ryan is not provided in the current data.
As you search for "camping near me," Camp Ryan presents itself as a destination with a strong emphasis on holiday festivities and access to Candlewood Lake. The reviews highlight specific aspects of a stay here, both positive and potentially concerning, which should be taken into account.
The Environment and Lakeside Access:
One of the significant advantages of Camp Ryan appears to be its location. It is mentioned as being a "5 minute walk from the beach," indicating convenient access to the shores of Candlewood Lake. Candlewood Lake is a well-known recreational area, popular for swimming, boating, and enjoying the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape. For local users seeking a lakeside "camping near me" option, this proximity to the beach is a notable feature.
The overall environment of Camp Ryan itself is not extensively described in terms of natural features or the specific layout of the cabin or grounds. However, the focus on lake access suggests that the primary environmental draw is the proximity to Candlewood Lake and the associated recreational opportunities.
Services and Potential Features:
Based on the limited information in the reviews, the services and features at Camp Ryan seem somewhat informal and unique:
- Spectacular 4th of July Fireworks: One reviewer enthusiastically promotes Camp Ryan's 4th of July fireworks display, claiming it to be "huge," "bigger and more beautiful than anyone else’s," and potentially "the most tremendous fireworks show in the history of Candlewood." This suggests that Camp Ryan may be a popular spot for celebrating this holiday.
- Community Refrigerator with Shared Beverages: One guest noted that "other guests usually bring alcoholic beverages and leave them in the community fridge," which could be seen as a unique, albeit potentially unregulated, social aspect of staying at Camp Ryan.
- Potential Access to Owner's Boat: A more unusual feature mentioned is that "the owner leaves the keys to his boat in the kitchen drawer," implying potential, albeit perhaps unsupervised and at-your-own-risk, access to a boat on Candlewood Lake.
- Accommodation Quality Concerns: A negative aspect raised is that during busy times, "the owner might make you sleep on an air mattress with a hole in it." This suggests potential inconsistencies in the quality of provided accommodations during peak seasons.
The limited information makes it difficult to ascertain other standard services or amenities that might be expected at a camping cabin, such as bedding, kitchen facilities, bathroom access, or specific rules and regulations.
Unique Aspects and Considerations:
Camp Ryan seems to offer a somewhat unconventional "camping near me" experience with several unique aspects that local users should consider:
- Emphasis on 4th of July Celebration: The strong focus on the fireworks suggests that Camp Ryan might be a lively and festive place to be during this particular holiday.
- Informal Social Environment: The mention of a community fridge with shared alcoholic beverages indicates a potentially informal and social atmosphere among guests.
- Uncertainty in Accommodation Quality: The possibility of being relegated to a leaky air mattress during busy times raises concerns about the reliability and comfort of the sleeping arrangements.
- Potentially Unregulated Boat Access: The availability of the owner's boat keys in the kitchen drawer implies a very informal and potentially risky arrangement for accessing the lake.
Local users seeking a more structured and consistently reliable camping cabin experience might find these informalities concerning. Conversely, those looking for a more laid-back and perhaps adventurous stay with a focus on lake access and holiday festivities might find Camp Ryan appealing, despite the potential drawbacks.
The Local Environment of New Fairfield and Candlewood Lake:
Camp Ryan's location in New Fairfield, CT, provides access to the scenic beauty and recreational opportunities of the Candlewood Lake region. Candlewood Lake is the largest lake in Connecticut and offers various activities such as swimming, boating, fishing, and hiking around its shores. New Fairfield is a town in Fairfield County, known for its rural character and proximity to both natural attractions and urban areas.
Local users considering Camp Ryan might also be interested in exploring the surrounding area, which could offer additional recreational activities, dining options, and local attractions. However, the reviews provided focus primarily on the Camp Ryan experience itself rather than the broader local environment.
Objective Assessment:
Based on the limited and somewhat contradictory information, Camp Ryan presents a mixed picture for those seeking "camping near me." The proximity to Candlewood Lake and the promise of a significant 4th of July fireworks display are potential draws. However, the reported possibility of inadequate sleeping arrangements during busy periods and the informal nature of some amenities, such as the community fridge and unsupervised boat access, raise concerns about the consistency and safety of the experience. The lack of information regarding standard amenities and rules also makes it difficult to form a comprehensive assessment.
Local users should carefully consider their priorities and risk tolerance when evaluating Camp Ryan. If lake access and a lively 4th of July celebration are paramount, and a degree of informality is acceptable, it might be a viable option. However, those seeking guaranteed comfort, regulated amenities, and a more traditional camping cabin experience might want to explore other options in the "camping near me" category.
Promotional Information:
The provided reviews do contain a promotional element regarding the 4th of July fireworks, with the reviewer boasting about their size and quality. However, no other standard promotional information such as pricing, availability, or special offers is included. Local users interested in learning more about Camp Ryan, including booking information and any specific promotions, would need to find a direct contact method for the property, as it is not provided in the current data.
In conclusion, Camp Ryan in New Fairfield, CT, offers a "camping near me" experience with direct access to Candlewood Lake and a notable 4th of July fireworks event. However, potential guests should be aware of the informal nature of some amenities and the reported inconsistencies in accommodation quality during peak times. Further inquiry directly with Camp Ryan would be necessary to obtain comprehensive information and make an informed decision.

Camp Ryan Reviews
4th of July is the best on Candlewood Lake when you’re at Camp Ryan. Our fireworks will be huge. Bigger and more beautiful than anyone else’s. Nobody does fireworks like Camp Ryan, folks. This year, I guarantee you, we will have the most tremendous fireworks show in the history of Candlewood. It will be fantastic, believe me.
Jun 26, 2023 · Nick MonticelloGreat getaway, but if it’s a busy time (i.e. 4th of July) the owner might make you sleep on an air mattress with a hole in it. Other guests usually bring alcoholic beverages and leave them in the community fridge so that’s a plus. Also a 5 minute walk from the beach, and if you’re feeling dangerous the owner leaves the keys to his boat in the kitchen drawer.
