Campground: Tillicum

NF-24, Trout Lake, WA 98650, USA

4.0
OK, full disclosure: I drove through and didn't stay. This place looks very neglected...road conditions are terrible, sites need raking, signs busted or missing. I am surprised they still collect money to stay here. My 25' class c rv barely made it around the loop due to very deep ruts. So expect it to be very quiet at least, but dispersed camping won't charge the $10. - Eric Chase

Campground: Tillicum Introduce

Looking for "camping near me" in the scenic area around Trout Lake, Washington? Campground: Tillicum, located at NF-24, Trout Lake, WA 98650, USA, might be an option to consider. You can reach them at (509) 395-3400 or +1 509-395-3400 for inquiries. To provide an objective overview, let's examine the information available from visitor reviews.

One individual who drove through the campground but did not stay shared a rather critical perspective. They described the place as "very neglected," noting that "road conditions are terrible," "sites need raking," and "signs busted or missing." This reviewer also expressed surprise that a fee is still collected to stay there, mentioning that their 25' Class C RV "barely made it around the loop due to very deep ruts." They concluded that while it would likely be "very quiet," dispersed camping might be a preferable, and free, alternative.

In contrast, another reviewer focused on a specific activity, stating, "We were looking for carnelian agates found one tiny one beach was clean." This suggests that the campground offers access to a beach area where agate hunting might be possible. However, this reviewer also noted a change in the landscape, mentioning that "The stretch of sand that leads out to Damond point has washed away," although there is an expectation that "it will come back." This indicates a dynamic natural environment with potential for both enjoyment (clean beach, agate hunting) and change (erosion of the sandbar).

Considering these two reviews within the context of "camping near me," Campground: Tillicum presents a mixed picture. On one hand, the potential for a quiet experience and access to a beach where one might find agates could be appealing. The cleanliness of the beach, as noted by one reviewer, is a positive aspect. On the other hand, the reported poor road conditions, neglected sites, and broken signage are significant drawbacks that potential campers should be aware of, particularly those with larger vehicles.

Let's break down the environment, services, and features based solely on these user reviews:

  • Environment: Described by one reviewer as potentially "very quiet." It includes a beach area where carnelian agates can be found. The surrounding natural environment seems to be a draw, although one specific feature (the sandbar to Damond Point) is currently washed away. However, the overall maintenance of the campground itself is described as "very neglected."
  • Services: The reviews do not explicitly detail services offered. The fact that they "still collect money to stay here" implies some level of service provision, even if it is perceived as inadequate by one reviewer given the conditions. Basic campground amenities might be expected, but their quality is not indicated.
  • Features: Potential features include access to a beach suitable for agate hunting and a location that promises quietness. However, these are contrasted with negative features like poor road conditions, unraked sites, and broken or missing signs.

Regarding promotional information, there isn't any explicit promotional content in the provided reviews. However, the mention of a "clean beach" and the possibility of finding "carnelian agates" could be seen as implicit attractions for certain types of campers – those who value beach access and geological exploration. The potential for a "very quiet" stay might also appeal to those seeking a more secluded camping experience.

However, it is crucial to balance these potential positives with the significant negative feedback regarding the campground's upkeep. The poor road conditions, especially the "very deep ruts" that made navigation difficult for a 25' RV, are a serious concern for anyone planning to bring a vehicle into the campground. The neglected state of the sites and the disrepair of the signage further detract from the overall camping experience.

For local users searching for "camping near me," Campground: Tillicum might offer a quieter, more natural setting with beach access and the unique opportunity to hunt for agates. However, potential visitors should be prepared for potentially challenging conditions within the campground itself due to the reported neglect and poor maintenance. It would be advisable to contact the campground directly at the provided phone numbers to inquire about the current conditions of the roads and campsites before planning a visit, especially if you have a larger vehicle.

In conclusion, based on the limited information available from these two reviews, Campground: Tillicum appears to be a location with some natural attractions (beach, potential for agates, quiet atmosphere) but significant drawbacks in terms of maintenance and infrastructure. For those prioritizing a pristine and well-maintained campground, Tillicum might not be the ideal choice based on the negative review. However, for those more focused on a potentially secluded experience with beach access and agate hunting, and who are prepared to navigate possibly rough conditions, it might still be worth considering. As always, seeking more current and diverse reviews or contacting the campground directly is recommended for a more comprehensive understanding.
