Canyon Country Campground & Glamping Introduce
Looking for "camping near me" with stunning natural beauty and convenient access to the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon? Canyon Country Campground & Glamping, located at 130 Wilson Rd, Wellsboro, PA 16901, and reachable at (570) 724-3818 or +1 570-724-3818, offers a unique gateway to this breathtaking area. Based on recent customer reviews, the campground provides a mix of accommodation options, including cabins, and boasts a prime location for exploring the canyon. However, some aspects of the experience have received mixed feedback, which potential visitors should consider.
The environment surrounding Canyon Country Campground & Glamping is undoubtedly a major draw, with its direct or very close access to the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon (Pine Creek Gorge). One reviewer highlighted the "stunning natural beauty" and the convenience of a direct entrance or a short mile-long trail leading to the canyon. This proximity allows for easy exploration of the canyon's "breathtaking trails" and "awe-inspiring views" right from the campground. The area is characterized by its dramatic gorge scenery, forests, and opportunities for hiking and nature appreciation. The "peaceful atmosphere" mentioned by one guest suggests that, in general, the setting allows for relaxation and connection with nature, including enjoying evenings by a fire pit and stargazing.
The services and features at Canyon Country Campground & Glamping appear to include:
- Cabin Rentals: Several reviews mention staying in cabins, which are described as "cozy" and "well-appointed," offering a blend of comfort and rustic charm. However, one review noted significant issues with the comfort and cleanliness of a specific cabin.
- Direct/Easy Access to PA Grand Canyon: A significant feature is the immediate or very close access to the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon, either via a trail from the campground or a short 5-minute drive.
- Fire Pits: Campers can enjoy evenings around a fire pit, a common feature for outdoor stays.
- Game Room (for a fee): There is a game room available, although one reviewer noted that the change machine was broken, which could limit its usability.
- Play Area for Kids: Amenities for children include a pirate ship to climb and slide on, a single regular swing, and a tire swing. However, one visitor felt this was insufficient for their two-year-old.
- Potential for Hiking Trails: While the mile-long trail to the canyon is mentioned, its maintenance was described as poor by one reviewer. There also seemed to be easier walking around the campsites within the campground.
- Friendly and Helpful Staff (Reported): One positive review specifically mentioned the staff being "incredibly friendly and helpful."
However, some concerns were raised about the services and features:
- Cabin Quality Issues: One reviewer strongly advised against the cabins due to an uncomfortable queen bed and a twin bunk bed that smelled of vomit.
- Trail Maintenance: The trail leading to the PA Grand Canyon was reported to be poorly maintained, with fallen trees and overgrown sections.
- Limited Family-Friendly Amenities: One guest found the playground offerings lacking for a young child, leading to them leaving early.
Regarding promotional information, none was explicitly mentioned in the provided reviews. Campgrounds and glamping sites sometimes offer seasonal discounts, package deals, or promotions for longer stays. To find out about any current promotions at Canyon Country Campground & Glamping, it would be best to check their official website or contact them directly.
For local users searching for "camping near me" with a focus on exploring the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon, Canyon Country Campground & Glamping's location is a significant advantage. The option of cabin rentals provides an alternative to traditional tent camping. However, potential visitors should be aware of the mixed feedback regarding the quality of the cabins and the maintenance of the trail to the canyon. Families with very young children might also want to consider if the on-site play facilities will meet their needs.
If your priority is proximity to the PA Grand Canyon and you are considering a cabin stay, it might be wise to inquire about the specific cabin you would be renting to ensure it meets your expectations regarding comfort and cleanliness, based on the varying experiences reported in the reviews. Alternatively, if you are planning to bring your own RV or prefer tent camping (for which there are no specific reviews provided here), the location's access to the canyon could still make this campground an attractive option. It is recommended to call them directly or visit their website to get the most current information on accommodation options, amenities, and any ongoing promotions. Weigh the convenience of the location against the potential drawbacks highlighted in the reviews to make the best choice for your "camping near me" adventure.

Mar 31, 2025 · Marcela MontoyaThis is great if you wanna be close to the canyon. It's only a 5 minute drive and there's a trail that leads right over to the PA grand canyon that is a mile long. Although it doesn't seem that anyone maintains the trail because there were many trees down and we had to climb over some and we had to climb under some. Plus we had to watch out for thorned bushes growing over the trail and some parts of the trail were only wide enough for just your feet. There were no easy trails except for walking around the campground at the different camp sites. Not super family friendly. They have a game room (which costs money) but the change machine was broken. They have a pirate ship for kids to climb up into and slide down. They also have a single regular swing and a tire swing. That's it. My 2 year old got bored so we ended up leaving a day early. We had a cabin but I do not recommend. It seemed nice at first but the queen bed was super uncomfortable and you could feel all the springs. When I brought it up, they claimed it was a brand new mattress but there's no way unless it was a mistake at whatever warehouse they came from and, in my opinion, they would have felt it when they put it on the frame. There was also a twin bunk bed but the one end of it smelled like vomit. When I mentioned that, someone came with some sanitizing spray but it didn't fully help. It also shouldn't have smelled like that to begin with. So if you stay, maybe use a rent site or RV. I'm not sure how the bathhouse is since we had a cabin but that might be the better option.
Oct 11, 2024 · Jessica StoneroadThis was our second time staying at Canyon Country. My husband used to visit with his family as a child. Last year we stayed in the cottage in the fall and it was really nice. The place was cozy and clean. We enjoyed our stay. This summer, we weren't too impressed with the cottage, but we still enjoyed our stay. We took a drive over to Stony Fork Creek to check it out, and it seemed like that would've been a better choice for our family, being that we have little ones who would enjoy the pool and activities they have going on. It would be nice if they made some improvements at Canyon Country. I heard great things about it and how it used to be years ago. It would be sad to see it get shut down.
Jul 24, 2023 · Maribel TorresCute and clean campground. Owner is super-nice. The showers have the least water pressure I've ever seen. Do not try to wash your hair. Bathhouse are clean.
Oct 04, 2024 · Candy MartinWe stayed in site "V" in a class C pulling a Jeep and paid $54/nt. The road the campground is on is extremely narrow with overhanging branches. Check-in was a breeze and Ryan was very friendly and helpful. I had a very long back-in with full hookups and the campground was almost empty immediately after the 4th of July, which was definitely unexpected. Unfortunately, several low hanging branches drug along my RV backing in, which I reported to Ryan. By the time we were ready to leave, nobody had come to cut the branches, so I rigged up my ladder and did it myself. The laundry room is very humid and dirty with 1 washer out of order, as was the change machine. Wash was $1.50 and dry $1.00. They have a game room with pool, airhockey and assorted arcade games. Again, very humid inside. We didn't use the bathrooms or showers, but we heard they are also dirty and humid and have rugs on the floors, which you NEVER do in bathrooms for health reasons. There is no dumpster, only an open trailer, so the trash sits all week collecting flies. Consequently, there are fly strips hanging everywhere. The midges were also annoying, but there were no mosquitoes, and I'm OK with that. They also have cabins for rent, but none of them have air conditioning... no thanks... They do have a dump station, but it's in an odd location on grass between trees on a slope... definitely not ideal. There is a hike up to an old (privately owned) fire tower, which you can climb up... for $5... that you don't find out until you get up there. Good exercise nonetheless. The CG is only 15 minutes from Darling Run Access on the Pine Creek Rail Trail, but Google will steer you on very scenic dirt roads to get there, which is doable in any vehicle and recommended. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay here again. I would, however, strongly recommend to the owners that a little elbow grease goes a long way at very little cost, and the laundry and bath areas could easily be cleaned and refreshed. And get a dumpster or use lidded trash cans. We're glad we visited!
